Re: AFL Mackay - 2010 Season

My tip is Saints will win the carnival this weekend, i have a feeling they will take a decent squad.

Hows poor Bakers coping the early game,9.30, can u c them at 6.30 to get up there in time?

Re: AFL Mackay - 2010 Season

Any information on what transpired at Airlie Beach yesterday ?

It was a good carnival john with only 8 teams competing in the end with bakers creek pulling out friday night. The final was between hermitt park tigers and north mackay saints. I'm not to sure who won as most people left due to the rain.
Most clubs would be happy with the hit out i reckon. Andergrove had there first win so PH would be happy. The hawks were happy with there carnival. Still a couple of players to come into the side for next weekend and just trying to get the team to gel with a number of new players.
I did here that the future of bakers creek is very clouded and that the swans maybe struggling a bit for players to. PH may know more.

Thanks for that rt..much appreciated.
the future doesn't look too bright for Bakers...perhaps a merger with Swans could be on the cards although i doubt it due to very different ''cultures''.

Hermit Park are a Townsville team.

I tipped the Saints as you can confirm on the last page.

Pleasing 1st hit out for Andergrove considering new team and all.
Good to have a win 1st up against Thuringowa who won the granny last year in Townsville.
Game 2 v Whitsunday we got beat but i was happy we matched their intensity and physicality which the Eagles are reknown for.

Apparently Bakers were holding a crisis meeting yesterday and some league officials were attending.

Eastern Swans are supposably holding a similar meeting tonight also with some league officials attending.
Swans president resign last week due to lack of support, apprently id the Swans dont find a new prez & an excutive committee asap the could be in strife too.

I attend the league meeting last wednesday night, unfortunately the league is not in sinc with the clubs and there lies the big problem currently and ahead.

The league has taken Bakers & Swans word that they are going along ok for the past few months with out any further investigation, now that its been brought to their attention that those clubs are struggling in certain areas & are in jeopardy of folding the league now feels its time to get involved and assist.
Too late with a week to go b4 rnd1!

Not once have i seen a league official of any kind attend any of Andergroves several training sessions from last November til now.
So how do actually know how clubs are going if not witnessing them 1st hand?
Plus Andergrove being a new team that is poor form on the leagues behalf.

Until the league is ran properly how can they dictate to a club how to run properly.

Sorry thats my rant for the day, if i hear any more on Bakers or the Swans i'll let you know.

Spot on PH. And what can the league board do to help these clubs with 5 days out to round 1? Not much. What does this mean for both the senior and reserve competitions this year?
I'm not sure much can be done this late. Perhaps as john said earlier, tigers and swans to form 1 side for the year. This wouldn't affect the swans junior program as the tigers don't have any. It will be interesting to see how the week unfolds in Mackay football.

My thoughts from the carnival were that the sea eagles will drop off a bit compared to last year, the saints will improve, hawks about the same, moranbah simliar to last year and andergrove to be quite competitive going on saturday's performance. Tigers and swans? Well we will have to wait and see.

Swans & Bakers merger seems the most logical but wouldnt merging to badly ran clubs result in just 1 badly ran club?

If Bakers folded you'll find the players that are still keen to play will spread amongst the other clubs & the non committed will have another excuse to not play & hit the booze.

If you where to judge teams for this season from the Carnival then i agree some what with the Roaring Tiger.

The Saints look to have improved & could be the smokies this year althought i was informed they had a few blow ins play in the Carnival.

Hawks should be 1 of the teams in this years granny unless alot goes wrong & it will be a good test to Dave Johnsons coaching ability to see if he can get them to go 1 step further than last season considering you could argue at this stage they wont have as strong opposition as the Rampaging Sea Eagles the past couple of years.

Whitsunday although have lost several quality players have good depth to step up & should still be in the mix come september but they may be more vunerable away from home this season.

Andergrove-4th spot is up for grabs this season which would be a huge achievement for a club in is debut season. Making finals would be a bonus but not the be all end all, the main aim is to build a team that is hard to beat.

Swans- The player numbers are there along with the quality, if they can get it wright of the field almost instantly then finals is well with in reach.

Mooranbah- by all reports have had good numbers at training & will win more games at home this year than in recent years may even pinch 1 away which would be great for them.

Bakers- time will tell.

Re: AFL Mackay - 2010 Season

Swans had their crisis meeting last night aiming to elect a new president & a full committee. Apparently no one showed any interest to forfill any of those vacancies, the league Prez was there & has givin the club 48 hours to shape up or ship out.
Bakers had a similar meeting Sunday & are in a similar predicament.

Just to clarify on PH's comment. Three of the four vacancies were actually filled last night with a fourth person being contacted today in regards to the final position. Swans are on the up and up and will be in the league for 2011.

Re: AFL Mackay - 2010 Season

Yeah good news for Swans fans, a few people from around the club came forward and filled the required roles.
Its just a shame it takes the club to be on the verge of folding b4 they did but better late than never.

I wonder how Bakers are progressing?

Re: AFL Mackay - 2010 Season

Rnd1 has been cancelled due to grounds wont be up to scratch, rnd1 has been moved to july.
But i think Swans are still going up to play Mooranbah cos their ground is ok & i presume those teams will have will have week off when the other teams play make up rnd1 in july.

Are the league board going to cancel round 2 aswell after last nights rain and more forecast for today and tomorrow.

Re: AFL Mackay - 2010 Season

At this stage Saints are still travelling up2 Airlie to play the Eagles.

Andergrove have changed their home game out to Mooranbah due to Bucasia being too wet.

Bakers ground was being accessed today for their encouner aginst the Swans, if Bakers ground isnt up2 scratch, that game will be reschudled to later in the season.

Hopefully from all of this the league will realise to start the season later in the future.

I'm not sure starting the season later will help us, this year anyway PH. The weather outlook for the next 6 weeks is predicting more and more rain. Perhaps we all need to get used to playing some wet weather footy. .

Re: AFL Mackay - 2010 Season

When was the last time Whitsunday where on the bottom of the Ladder?

Apparently Whitsunday had 8 out at a wedding but i also heard the Saints had a few out too.

Should be an interesting encounter this week between Saints & Hawks, if it stays wet heavy i would lean towards the Saints.

Re: AFL Mackay - 2010 Season

Going by the copious amount of rain that has fallen so far this week i can't see any football being played as the grounds will be flooded.

Andergrove put their hand up to go back out to Mooranbah and play b4 the Mooranbah v Whitsunday game but the leahue had an excutive meeting last Night opting for the Andergrove v Swans game to be played at Bakers instead, go figure!

Re: AFL Mackay - 2010 Season

Can one of the learned posters on here let us know if there is a possibility of the grounds being suitable for play this week and what clubs are rostered to play whom ?

The hawks play the bulldogs out at moranbah this weekend JB. Looking forward to the game as we haven't played since the airlie beach carnival.
The sea eagles play the swans at airlie and the roos against the tigers at Bucasia but i doubt there ground will be ready. You would think bakers would be ok this weekend especially if we have little rain over the next few days.
