Not sure if he has played yet but Liam French got offered 300 a game to play for the hawks

They probably could offer money, unlike most other clubs, as they do not have the cost of ground upkeep. And they can tell prospective players, look, we have a club, a tab, a beautiful ground, how good are we. Harrup park should be a neutral ground. Hawks have never put any serious money into anything and have becomes successfull on the back of every other clubs expense.

hi guys a couple more of the better footballers to play in mackay over the last 10 yrs would have to be either tim jenkins or matty landt in my opionion

CQ Tiger, are you the bloke who wanted the Mackay and Townsville clubs on the tilt train everyweek in merged competition ???

Knowing some of the Hawks leaders, they are enjoying the amount of new players who have contacted them for a game. David Johnstone must have the gift of the gab because I can't imagine Carey Regan handing out money for players.

You'll find Penguin has a lot to do with some of Hawks key recruits this year not Dave Johnno.

A rumour from the City / Country game is the black & white birds from Glenella asking questions on potential coaches. Is there going to be a coup ?

Like to know your source for that rumor cos that's news to me plus no one from the club was at the game only a few of us players watching some Magpie boys playing for Country.
Andergrove would not have had a team last year if it wasn't for our Coach plus we made finals.

You sound abit jealous BD! You will find though the recruits that have come into the team this year, are replacing the premiership players that we have lost from last season and there wont be any locals missing out on a game.

I'm sure every club is jealous of your recruiting this year but you've lost 4-5 premiership players & you would have doubled that in recruits so some one has to miss out.

HI Burning Desire
I have found over the years the only players that leave the hawks are -
#the ones that don't fit into what i would call a pretty good footy club culture, and they know they don't fit in or
#players that can't get a game and find it easier to go elswhere to get play senior football .They are cleared and go on their way with the best wishes of the club.

Wouldn't that be the case at every club?

Reading through burning desire's comment about recruiting a premiership not a foootball club.Seems to me the hawks have been the hawks for what i would call a long time, yes they change the jumper design from time to time but in the end they are the brown and gold and the hawks. The saints have been the saints for a long time ,the swans have been the swans for a long time. .Recently after only what seems a VERY ,VERY short time a kangaroo became a magpie, and your talking about building a club and identity, unless your colour blind, black and white isn't blue and white.

When did l ever question Hawks identity?

The only reason Andergrove changed its name & colors because that was the condition from the Magpies Sporting Club if they were to develop & maintain us a state league standard ground & facilities, an offer to good to refuse, next season our set up will rival Harrup Park which will hopefully attract recruits as the Hawks do.

Other clubs that use Harrup Park get charged $50- ground hire plus $65- per hour for lights so I'd presume Hawks are charged the same but they don't have any where near the running cost of the weekly ground maintenance the other clubs have to pay.
As much as all the other clubs whine & complain it's smart by Hawks for getting one of the best facilities in probably QLD.

That maybe so, but up at Airlie on Saturday afternoon, I didn't watch a team playing for their coach.

You guys travelled down last season & belted us at Dolphin Park Bucasia, but then the results turned around when it counted, luckily its early on in the season not that theres an ideal time to ever get smashed!

Hopefully it was just one of the days where every one had a bad one except a few, but not taking anything away from the Sea Eagles because they looked very impressive, hopefully the Magpies can bridge the gap next time both teams meet at Harrup Park round 9.

Good to See some different people post on here for a change,
BD mate, do you sleep!

You just proved what a dill you are, there is more ex Bakers playing for hawks than Andergrove/ Magpies.

The only players that played for Andergrove last season that had played some games at Bakers where Hayden Lang, jaebyn Drefke , Nic Muscat & Mat HUngerford who played Juniors at Andergrove & where aligned to Bakers whom would never of played at Bakers if Andergrove had a Senior side prior to 2011 , half a side hey, you've done your homework there!
