Apologies for dropping the ball a bit last night and this morning guys. Finished my draft for Geelong and forgot to edit out Windhager's bid for Saints, which mucked things up a bit.

How do people feel they went, who do they think was the most surprising? For mine I didn't realize how decent Hawthorn and Melbourne's hands were, and also think St Kilda will end up doing well with basically only one decent pick netting them three very decent players.

Also, how's everyone else feel about the 2021 draft after going through this exercise? Personally I think Pure_Ownage is right, and that there's a ton of depth once you get to the speculative end of the draft.

There's a bit of a sh*tfight for those around that 2nd-3rd round mark that you're hoping will be quality, but once you get into the 40's and you're just going for a free hit, there's a ton of players that could all actually develop into really decent players. I mean hell, there's 3 off the the top of my head that haven't been called, which I'd draft if I had the picks.

What does everyone else think? Really interested in other's thoughts :)

P.S. it's been a pleasure doing this with you guys, and a lot of fun - thanks for being a part of it!

Personally felt talent is good until about pick 30 then really drops away, I'd be keen to move up in this draft.

Yep it was about when Richmond got those three picks, that the feeling started to change around what was available. We need to get ahead of those picks, if we want to get a decent slider from the first round/early second round, IMO

I would trade 30 and 32 to bulldogs for 23 and a future 2nd.

I would also trade 34 to Essendon for a future 2nd.

Then I would try and trade our future 1st for a pick in the 16-21 range.

3 picks at 21,22 and 23 this year and add more 2nd round picks for next year.

ShaunWDT Pure_Ownage, both Saints and Freo are done now - as bids for both Windhager and Benning were matched.

ShaunWDT you're up next for Sydney :)

EDIT: All good

Fair..sorry i calced turbo had a residual pick post owens but i didntfactor in the points lost matching windhager so you are right.

I wouldnt be trading our future 1st..its risky if we have a bad year plus there will be a lot of tall forwards and rucks of quality in the first round next year-our best chance to get a stanley or hawkins successor in years.

What i would do is try and trade a couple of our later picks for 23 and/or if there is a slider in the 10-15 bracket on the night that we really like package 22 and our future 2nd or 3rd to see if we can get up to that pick. Essendon might split 11 for the right offer brisbane might do 14 or 18 if there are futures involved..etcetc.

We shouldn't be trading our Future 1st under any circumstances, IMO. We don't know where we'll finish, and any club we would trade with who would agree, would likely be closer to the end of the 1st round anyway.

It's too fraught with risk, and we want to actually have another decent hand when we actually need it next year. So that means we'll have our own 1st, plus be able to use our Future 1st, in a far more stable draft.

Anyone you would get with the Future 1st anyway, would probably be the same talent equivalent as who you would get in the 20's anyway.

It's just not worth the risk IMO.

EDIT: Also, think of if we did get in a Future 2nd as well, to go with our Future 3rd? We'd have two 1st round picks (by using our 2023 future in next year's draft), two 2nd round picks and two 3rd round picks - that would be a monster hand

I think theres plenty of talent after 30 and this mock shows that but the talls in particular drop off after 30 and in general the guys after 30 are more undervalued as they are the ones who have missed a lot of footy with covid etc. So the 'safer' picks are inside 30 and you can see from my richmond picke the good sliders that will be there in the 15-30 range so id like to trade up but there will still be lots of good picks after 30 if youre happy to take a risk and back your eye.

Can this Jack Williams fella play the other end?

Yep he can. Played defensive roles before playing in attack. Genuine swingman, and reason I was happy to pick him to fill the void as a KPD if needed (if we get Schlensog he could be more of a long-term Hawk replacement up forward instead)

Awesome, and cheers!

I was absolutely rapt to get Zac Taylor, so anything else after that was a bonus. All things being equal (and PO knew it too haha), I would have taken Aleer at my first 30's pick, to address our KPD need. Would have also liked a better rebounder than Lord, but still think he's quality and would fit in well at the Cats.

All in all, if we got Taylor, Howes, Aleer/Williams, Lord/Sam Banks and Fejo Jr. I think it really would be a great mix - while also addressing immediate needs in all areas :)

Hope we get Banks.
He looks the goods.

Yeah I was thinking we might do it too :) 2 rounds like a normal rookie draft?

Yeah i was thinking 2 rounds in normal reverse ladder order so everyone can fill needs for their club and we can get some names out there.

Sounds good! Reckon we'll finish up tonight, and then like a normal draft, get everyone informed and start it tomorrow if that works for everybody else?
