Well with Macdonald gone, this gives me a free hit for a guy no-one would expect me to pick in this range. Dubbed the 'human highlights reel', this kid has everything - speed, skill, goal sense, equally proficient on both feet, duck step that fools everyone...do you know who I'm talking about yet?

David the Cat probably would, as he has been all over this kid and I was just blown away by his highlights.

Without further ado, and with great pleasure, the GFC welcomes a Stephen Wells special...

Drumroll please...

Pick 46. - Ronnie Fejo Jr!

For anyone who hasn't seen this kid, seriously do yourself a favour and check out his highlights package. Could be the biggest steal of the draft, as he's basically NWM but at a pick closer to 50 than 10. Has areas of improvement, but gee he has has natural talent coming out the wazoo.

"Joining West Adelaide this year from Northern Territory, Ronald Fejo Jr has been a highlight reel in the Reserves. Taking part for the Allies (a team composed of talent from NSW/ACT, Queensland, Tasmanian and Northern Territory talent) in their clash with South Australia, Fejo wowed onlookers with his rare speed, agility and evasion.

On a depleted Allies team, the Allies enjoyed support from some of South Australia's best under-17 prospects, but were soundly beaten by 92-points. Despite the heavy defeat, Fejo revealed there is no player in this year's draft quite like him with ball in hand.

Two years older than some of his peers, Fejo, the nephew of Gold Coast's Joel Jeffrey, made his South Australian opponents look silly. He danced around them as if they were traffic cones, selling the dummy, then shooting off and leaving them in his wake, taking on the game with his run and speed. Fejo was clean, electric, and influential.

Still light and needing to get stronger and develop as a contested ball winner, Fejo plays something like this year's Aaron Hall equivalent with the offensive masterclass he puts on with ball in hand. With time and development, there is the scope to his play, as with Hall, to develop into a high frequency gamebreaker with his run and clean ball use. Securing 15 disposals, Fejo doesn't need to find a lot of the football to break games open, with most of his involvements impactful, but the more of the footy he can secure, the greater his offensive influence will be"

That rounds us out, and addresses a lot of what we need moving forward. Pretty happy given our late picks, but could have done better had Pure_Ownage not taken all the good stuff for friggin Richmond!

Vdubs over to you for the next 2 picks :)

Pick 43 - North select Sam Banks

write ups later. Flat out at work

I highly rate this guy! He is a natural leader, seems super committed at making him and his team mates better! He is very versatile too but is SO effective dashingoff half back or up the wing. Would be perfect for WCE or a team needing some real dash n carry breaking lines. A great kick that’ll consistently hit up teammates 👏
I wouldn’t be surprised if he goes earlier tbh

Was literally 50/50 between him or Lord for our rebounder - in the end could only split them by the name, haha

Essendon. Pick 47
Tyreece Leiu
POSITION: Inside Midfielder/Defender.

A strong-bodied inside midfielder capable of providing marking presence at either end of the ground, with sound reading of the play and clean hands- the big bodied 18-year-old is a versatile talent who provides strength at the contest and has adjusted well to different roles thus far. Having been part of Vic Metro’s undefeated Under 16 side, he was set to done the Big V again this year but missed due to injury.

STRENGTHS:

+ Versatility
+ Size
+ Marking
+ Reading the Play

I have witnessed this very big-bodied mid/utility dominate for Eastern, both as an inside mid, and as a rock in defence. He could fill areas of need at Bomberland capably, and body-wise, is nearly ready to start.

Vdubs, you again!

Essendon Pick 48.
Joshua Browne
Joshua Browne's form for East Fremantle has seen him push his way into the starting midfield in AFL.com.au's rolling Draft Team of the Year.

The 18-year-old is a ball-winner who competes well as an inside midfielder but can also get out of the stoppages and make an impact around the ground.

After showing his potential last season in East Fremantle's finals series at Colts level, Browne has averaged 32 disposals this season in seven games, including last week's 28-disposal and one-goal performance against South Fremantle.
A nice summary of his excellent development. A quality character, and an excellent mid. Great for the Bombers future

Be decisive Two Planks , no splinters

Absolutely spewin was my next choice IF he drifted this far! Really has talent and another I wouldn’t be surprised if went sooner! His progression has been fast and at AFL I really feel he’ll embrace the challenge and be a valuable player! 👏🙌

Pick 49
Melbourne
Judson Clarke
Dandenong Stingrays

They are all a stretch at this point. AFL.com.au have him ranked in top 35, thats good enough for me

Too good to last... then when CalT talked about him today..I knew he would be taken. Like the look of his left foot. Goal sneak type like Miers , perhaps with more mid adaptability.

At Pick 51 Brisbane select Hugh Jackson

POSITION: Balanced Midfielder 181cm 70kg

SNAPSHOT: “A natural accumulator of the football, Jackson wins possession both inside and outside the contest and consistently distributes to teammates in space.”

Hugh Jackson was the premier ball winner in the SANFL U18s competition this year, averaging 34 disposals across his first 11 games, before a quieter end to the year saw his season average drop a fraction below 30 per game. He collected a season-best 41 disposals in Round 6 against eventual premier Woodville-West Torrens, only to match it just three weeks later with another 41 possessions and 12 clearances, in a best on ground display. His early season form was rewarded with selection in South Australia’s Under 19s squad where he has featured in representative games against Western Australia and the Allies. A late season debut for North Adelaide in the SANFL Reserves and an invite to the National Draft Combine capped off a successful year for Jackson, whose body of work has propelled him into draft calculations.

Turbocat you're up

Reckon Jackson could be anything, clubs will pass because he's pretty small and lightly framed for an AFL level mid and hasnt played any senior footy.

P52 Fremantle select ... Jahmal Stretch

181cm Claremont

Still having Benning up their sleeve as a nga ... they might go for a bit of a dice roll.. , so may as well go local. I considered Greg Clarke and Arthur Jones but decided on this kid. Needs some weight , he looks like he could get snapped in half atm but has talent.

aflcentral says...

POSITION: Small Forward

SNAPSHOT: “An electric prospect with all the tools to be an elite small forward, boasting speed, smarts, a defensive appetite and definitive x-factor.”

One of the most exciting and fast-improving talents in this year’s crop is Jahmal Stretch, a native of the fabled Halls Creek region. Fremantle had the chance to snap him up under its Next Generation Academy (NGA) umbrella but missed the application, meaning Stretch is available to all clubs in the open draft. The Claremont product had not played a heap of organised football prior to his 2021 WAFL Colts campaign, which saw him boot 16 goals in 14 games and earn state Under 19 representative honours. With many of the traits necessary to compete as an elite level small forward, Stretch has shown a terrific rate of development to stamp his draft credentials this year.

STRENGTHS:

+ X-factor
+ Speed
+ Smarts
+ Clean hands
+ Vertical leap
+ Defensive pressure

IMPROVEMENTS:

– Consistency
– Rawness

At his best, Stretch is a match-winning influence inside 50 who impacts the game in the air, on the ground, in an attacking sense, and on the defensive end. His well-rounded skillset as a small is aided by explosive athleticism, catching the eye with bursts of speed and enormous leaps. Standing at 181cm, Stretch is the type who can sit on heads and is not afraid to back himself aerially. He proved his vertical prowess at the West Australian draft combine, registering a running leap of 93cm – the fourth-best score nationwide.

At ground level, the 18-year-old is a menace. His speed makes him difficult to contain both in open play and on the lead, while also boding well for blanketing defensive pressure. With all-action bursts, Stretch makes things happen when the ball enters his area. He creates panic with little twists, turns and an innate goal sense, helping to manufacture scoring opportunities, but also proving selfless enough to bring others into the game close to goal.

While all the right tools are present, Stretch has come from a long way back compared to his peers and is developing his consistency as a footballer. He is moreso an impact player at the moment and had some quite low-production Colts games this season, but saw his overall impact prove greater than pure numbers. Averaging 8.2 disposals and just over a goal per 14 outings, Stretch came to life at times but also had quiet patches. Ironing out those peaks and troughs with a better endurance base and more experience will boost his consistency.

Having not played much organised football throughout his journey to Claremont, gaining that exposure at high levels is key to his continued development. Stretch is a player who, with time in an elite system, could really accelerate and build on the diverse base of skills he already has. Adding some size to his 62kg frame and adjusting to the structures of elite level game plans is always a jump, but Stretch has held his own thus far and can improve even further.

DRAFT PROJECTION: Late/Rookie

SUMMARY:

While a raw and prospective option, Stretch could well prove a high-reward selection at the draft table given his upside and proven rate of development. He has all the natural nous and athletic traits suited to small forward play, all of which could help him become a seriously dangerous goalsneak down the line. He will need time to develop, but can do things others simply cannot, so should garner attention with a late or rookie pick.
