Waverley is not gone yet! And it wont go! Channel 9 will soon own it so thats how the afl are going to get rid of it!

There are going to be problems letting channel 9 into too colonial i bet! Coz channel 7 will be the arseholes they always are!

No, Waverley is an icon as far as footy games is concerned. If the AFL aren't going to actually use it anymore then lease the ground for concerts or as a pre-training ground for interstate clubs.

e.g., like a warm up to the actual match!

Overall the ground could be used for something. Otherwise the developers would come in and rip it down themselves and build units on it. As if there aren't enough already!

How does the proposal to rebuild the M.C.G. affect this obscene haste to get rid of Waverley.

For all its faults, Waverley is one of the few sporting grounds in Melbourne capable of accommodating A.F.L. crowds.

It looks like the M.C.G. is going to be stuffed for about 4 years while they rebuild the Northern side of the ground.

Which raises the question of where to play the Grand Finals for those 4 seasons.

Take your pick:

Colonial Stadium
Homebush
Football Park
Subiaco
Waverley

Personally, I think its between Homebush and Waverley. The other grounds are much too small.

If they play the grand final at Colonial there is going to be a riot and i for one will head of that riot!

They have said the mcg's capacity wont go below 70,000 and that is what the capacity at Stadium Australia will be about after it has been redevolped into an Afl Stadia! So u may as well keep the grand final at the G!

Would sydney really be able to handle 2 Grand Finals in a row? One on Saturday and One on Sunday? 2 Victorian Sides in a Grand Final will they draw a big enough crowd for it?

Why not just play it at waverley for god sake coz it will most likely be the largest stadium in australia while the Northern Stand is being upgraded with a capacity of 77,000 and More!

Waverley Park is a great football venue. It has the best surface in the league and im pretty sure Channel 9 will do something to bring afl football back to Waverley Park.

The AFL won't move the Grand Final from the MCG. They will ensure that the development of the new stand is done in stages so the capacity will never be less than 70,000.

Nonetheless, this means the 30,000 fans will be screwed each time.

CIK, I was invoking a little sarcasm.

I suggested installing more heating to remove the only grabber. I suggested this because the biggest detraction for me was VFL Park's climate, very bloody cold.

The sarcasm mentioned above was in relation to vouching that the only grabber, the only reason people frequented VFL Park, was because it was nice and cold. If that was the case (which it is not, in fact its the opposite - sarcasm), then more heating would scare off those who enjoyed its climate. Less people would attend and VFL Park would cease to be a profitable going concern.

Once again, I had implemented sarcasm. Does that help explain?

Actually Mobbenfuhrer, I'm with Alf and CIK on this one. I've never heard the expression used in that context before.

Actually it is often used in the same sentence as the word 'Carey'!

Well that's great. Were going to be showing the grand final to Australia and to people from around the world at a construction site.

Didn't they AFL say that they did not want to play games at Stadium Australia while the end stands were being taken down.

"We do not want football patrons to be at a construction site while viewing football matches" or words to that affect is what Mr Dimetrou said on Radio.

Wonder if that will apply to the MCG?

OK my opinion??? Let it rot, who bloody cares. As long as they NEVER use it for senior footy, I don't care.
