It's ridiculous players get them and even more ridiculous non competing clubs get them to sell in packages.

Sell all those tickets to members properly and distribute the cash back to the players and clubs without the mark ups.

Make a small allocation available to all the players and those who wish to attend can enter a ballot. I'd be surprised if more than a couple from each club go.

Every AFL listed player gets two tickets to the grand final, even those who don't want to spend $300+ on flights to Melbourne and the same again on accommodation.

It is such a cheap way for the AFL to give the players something.

Minimum pay for a player with two years experience is $100,000. 386 of the 718 players in 2016 earned under $300,001 (53.76%)

For more detail:
9.75% earned between $60,000 and $100,000
25.76% earned between $100,001 and $200,000
18.25% earned between $200,001 and $300,000
20.61% earned between $300,001 and $400,000 and this is where the average pay sits...

You can see that there is not as many big earners as made out in the media throwing around $750,000 a year deals which if you were interested the bracket for $700,001 to $800,000 has 2.5% of the players in it... One per club

Interesting post. You always hear higher numbers thrown around when people discuss transfers etc- goes to show a a Dusty or Buddy deal must impact on all the 'little guys.'

I know a guy that got a ticket from a player this season.
some kind of 'package' but it cost him upward of $1800

Been going on for years. Never underestimate the lengths an AFL player will go for a buck.

Pretty sure a Collingwood premiership captain was doing it in 2010.

Do these blokes not have any shame?

If someone is willing to spend a grand or two to buy a ticket to a Grand Final, there's a pretty good chance they're going to be someone capable of saying 'hey, aren't you that ---- who plays for ----?'

Jesus christ, being a tight arse or willing to do stuff like this for money you don't really need is such a bad trait. Wouldn't you just feel self-conscious and isn't it way more hassle than it's worth? I have nowhere near $100,000 a year coming to me but if I had a ticket I'd probably ask 500 bucks at the absolute most if I got one for free. If I was a player I'd probably just give it away – I'm sure you'd know someone, whether it be a mate or a random person.

FFS these blokes are just overpaid bogan tools with no self respect. Between shit like this and the amount of them who sit in pokies pubs betting away $50s or doing drugs in public, they've got no idea of how to handle themselves and at least not look like a moron.

Pretty scummy move for the players to sell them at such inflated prices but sadly doesn't surprise me.

They're harming nobody so I don't care. If you're stupid enough to buy a ticket for such an inflated price you deserve to be ripped off.

**** knows how this is 'illegal'.

I really hope Geelong doesn't make a GF for another 40 years, you miss out on tickets, and a current player offers to trade his allotment for $20,000 (rough index for inflation).

Yeah, they're doing nothing wrong.

I agree With most of what you say.

But the vast majority of players are on over 100k, earning well above the average wage in this country. The players get paid pretty well.

No-one is pointing a gun to their heads, they can always look for a better 'job' if they feel what they earn as an AFL player is inadequate.

One naive affable young fella attended a Grand Final last year and when he told teammates people said 'why do you want to go to the Grand Final?' He was still a footy fan basically.
So basically the people around him were entitled and privleged flogs who are out of touch with the average footy fan.

Except (admittedly by my understanding) it is illegal - you can be charged with an offence.

Tickets may not, without the prior written consent of the ticket agent and the AFL, be resold or offered for resale at a premium (including via on-line auction sites) or used for advertising, promotion or other commercial purposes (including competitions and trade promotions) or to enhance the demand for other goods or services, either by the original purchaser or any subsequent bearer. If a ticket is sold or used in breach of this condition, the ticket may be cancelled without a refund and the bearer of the ticket may be refused admission. Scalping warning: In addition, the resale of tickets in certain circumstances is governed by ticket sales legislation and may attract criminal penalties.

The AFL Grand Final is a Declared Event under the provisions of the Major Sporting Events Act (Vic) 2009, a breach of which may be an indictable offence and allows your ticket to be cancelled.

Why is it an issue, the AFL themselves scalp the tickets with these packages.
I paid $3500 one year which got me the following.

Return airfares $1000
3 night hotel $1050
Final siren function with INXS playing concert so let's value that at $500

So ticket to game ends up about a $1000.

It is scalping of the highest order on all fronts.
My choice to pay it of course which I was prepared to do but don't think the AFL are not scalpers.

So tell me why the radios in SA said you could sell your tickets for the 3 games here on condition it's only 5% more than your purchase price
