AFL players to take pay cuts in order to carry the AFLW?

I'd say funding covers the salary cap plus 150k extra costs which would likely cover coaching.
We also had a boost of 2.4 million dollars under "sales and sponsorship" between the 2018 and 19 seasons.
Some of that is probably Tasmanias 4th game but I'd say there's an argument there for AFLW money.
Yep. There is no economic basis for the AFLW is a drain argument.

There's probably a discussion to have over what happens if the AFL leaves the clubs holding the bag in a few years time but considering the whole league is currently cheaper than fold coast and it's a long term investment is say that's speculation at best and not worth bringing up with such big brain discussion as this

That’s a long way off and you’d think that would only happen when it’s self sustainable.

To start off, I am not against female sport, I enjoy watching elite netball as well as my daughter's junior netball games. I was a foundation AFLW North member also.

In regards to the AFLW, I personally find it quite hard to watch, even infuriating at times, due to the amount of fundamental errors made. Would I go out of my way to go to a game? No, but the game needed a starting point though.

Being involved in a large junior football club I have seen first hand the growth in junior female participation, so the standard will be on an upward curve.

In saying that, the AFLW sides definitely ride on the existing passion of their clubs supporters. There is no way there would be the same amount of support for representative suburban sides or the same increase in junior participation rates if it wasn't for the tie in with AFL clubs.

A point made earlier in this thread was that all females like it. This is incorrect. My wife and mother-in-law are football lovers but have no interest in watching it because of it's current standard.

As a North person I hope the girls side is successful, mainly because it may have a positive impact on the Club via media, memberships and sponsors. This is why the Club ties it in with the men's side whenever possible in the media I believe.

At the end of the day, I doubt it is going anywhere as the product will no doubt improve. To a level that will win everyone over, I doubt it.

The insanity of your comments is frightening. Males had a privileged existence in the Aussie Rules community.
So by your logic women have had a privileged existence in the netball community and the fashion industry. It has nothing to do with the natural inclinations of boys/men as opposed to women and girls.
Men created a game.
Men played the game because it was enjoyable.
Men played the game for no financial gain for years.
The game grew in popularity.
Women loved watching the game as much as men.
Women played their own games during this time ie tennis, netball, hockey, athletics, gymnastics, badminston
Girls and boys played the game together until around the age of 13 and then out of consideration for the physical welfare of girls they were told to play in all girl competitions.
Men decided to create an elite competition for women who wished to play footy at a higher level.
Women still play netball and it is still exclusively played by women at the highest level.

Where is the privilege?

There have been no attempts to encourage more boys into playing netball or setting up an all boy competition to compete at the highest level.
If they say the demand isn't there then do what our government has been doing for decades. One could argue most women are not interested in STEM subjects or joining the army or police force but that doesn't stop the endless drive to get more women into these professions.

Make netball attractive for boys and actively pursue them.

Why is it that men always seem to be bending backwards to accommodate women and girls but this support is never reciprocated? The boy scouts were forced to become accessible to girls yet the Girl Guides and Brownies remain exclusively for females. Male sporting teams and competitions have raised tens of millions of dollars for women's health. I know of no female sporting community which has raised money for male specific diseases. The AFL creates an elite competition for women and subsidizes it with money earned by the men but no such generosity is demonstrated by Netball Australia.

I love the idea of a woman's competition. I love seeing girls and women kicking a footy. I want the AFLW to succeed so my granddaughter can play for the Pies. None of these comments in any way contradict my comments on the entitlement and lack of gratitude of some people associated with AFLW, the lack of genuine criticism of the female players when they perform poorly or the fact that it is not an enjoyable spectacle at this stage in its development.
Dead beat Collingwood supporter.

By trying to argue with me you’ve just proven my point. Boys are entitled to play footy, girls you’re entitled to play Netball.

As for your, but Netball doesn’t do it, argument, grow up you 5 year old.

C’mon Mate. Apparently Females have had a privileged position in the Fashion Industry. Don’t forget that the next time someone like Jason Grech is mentioned during the Spring Racing Carnival as a designer of an outfit. :stern look

Top female models earn nearly thirty times more than top male models for the same work. None of the male models complain cause they know it's all market driven. Females in male dominated industries need to understand how businesses operate instead of screeching sexism. Some would say female models are privileged. I think there is more demand for their services.

How dare I try to argue with you on a football forum. I apologise.

I assume the netball argument or question as to why men seem to do all the supporting and nurturing of women be it their health or getting their sporting clubs up and running was annoying because you couldn't frame a decent response. Men in sport do so much for women's issues and needs and the most common female response to male sportsmen in Australia is to scorn them as sexist Neanderthals. Unkind and ungrateful.

Enjoy the upcoming season. Bye.

And there's the Matilda's reference, the Godwin's Law of female sport conversations.
I heard it raised when the American women's soccer team had their crowd chanting "Equal Pay! and arguing that because they won the cup-something the men couldn't do, they deserved equal pay. I have seen the same argument on the Big Footy forum. The Matildas smashed x and y by ten goals and the Socceroos could barely score in their international contests, so the women, if anything, deserve more money! This is why intelligent people pointed out the fact that the Matilda's were smashed by an under 15 boy's team. It was raised to indicate that comparing two competitions of hugely different standards is ridiculous. The American Women's team was also humiliated by boys in a scratch match.

Using the same argument I could claim the boys at Mooroolbark Football club players deserve more money than the Melbourne AFL players after completing a far more successful season and finishing with a much higher percentage. Absurd? Yep. But this is the exact argument being used by many who support higher pay for various female sports teams.

Is the reason you are arguing gender politics on a North Melbourne board instead of your own board because you are worried that if you question club policy on a Collingwood board, Joffa will dob you in to Eddie?

I saw the subject being discussed and it interested me. Luckily for me, Joffa has headed off into the sunset to live in a village in Tonga. :)

I just think the afl should have kept it to the local suburbs.
A reasonable opinion to have, but the AFL has made a decision to invest in a women's league, so expect that before, during and after that league's season, they'll probably have news and media about it.
I don't believe it's being shoved down your throat though, I've managed to not watch the Freo v eagles game pretty successfully so far, and the aflw police haven't come knocking yet.

Are you all there? That discription makes no sense I was referring to at least the same sport
If you don't like reading about aflw then either don't read it, don't buy the publication, or contact the editors. If you want to guarantee zero coverage then I suggest you start your own news website.

What a "delightful" thread this is.

Maybe its just me but I look forward to the day when the AFLM season finishes on the last Saturday in September with the NMFC boys hoisting the AFLM Premiership Cup and the AFLW season starts immediately afterwards in the first week of October and ends on the last Saturday in the following March with the NMFC girls hoisting the AFLW Premiership Cup.

And so on. What a wonderful this will be.

My God. You actually wrote, men seem to do all the supporting and nurturing of women.

You need to understand that you are a sexist big. It’s like AA, admitting it is the first step to recovery.
