AFL players to take pay cuts in order to carry the AFLW?

Still haven't answered my question.
you're really desperate to "win" this, aren't you?

I told you where to direct your questions. You don't have to stones to do it.

Why?

I’ve got 3 teenage kids, the 2 girls play(ed) netaball and my son plays soccer and has played a bit of footy.
I would think that money spent on the grass roots junior sports programs whether on girls or boys is money well spent. Anything to keep kids active and healthy should be encouraged.
I’ve seen it first hand esp with young girls the impact female sports ‘stars’ have. Female role models have a greater impact on them than what male role models do. We had a friends daughter debut in the AFLW last week and the pride her ‘dad‘ has is immense. Another friends daughter has already been scouted because of her footy ability. Why shouldn’t she have access to the same facilities, programs and coaching to what a 14 year old boy does? If it wasn’t for the AFLW pathway then these young girls and their families would probably be playing basketball, soccer etc and probably be lost to the AFL industry.

So the AFL weren't terrified of netball up until a couple of years ago?

Female participation in cricket and especially soccer has exploded the past 10 years. The AFL are fearful of this. They can see the changing nature of Australian society and the impact it may end up having on them. New migrants and young kids have much more choice than AFL nowdays. Every big competition around the world is at your fingertips. They want females actively involved in football and not playing, following and spending their time and money on to the ‘competition’. It’s why I feel the industry is spending money on AFLW, otherwise a sizeable segment of the female market will be lost.

Unfortunately our footy club hasn’t got 90k members and a waiting list for reserved seats nor gets front page exposure when one of our players farts etc. We are at the mercy of the AFL suits and must play their PC game in order to survive unfortunately. I ******* hate it but what’s the alternative? Our womens team is there to complement our club and to encourage female participation in footy. This type of thing is happening all over the world especially in European soccer. Yeh I kind of cringe and roll my eyes when the club does the dual PR stunts etc but when we or any other local footy club gets those $300k grants etc for additional female facilities because more girls are playing footy then you just have to accept that this how is the authorities do business nowadays. Getting money off them is far easier using the ‘female’ angle.

NOW, you have hit on the real TRUTH!

Male players played for peanuts for decades and did heavy laboring jobs all week. Why should these women get a free ride? They are already subsidized by the men. They get far more media exposure than their product warrants yet all they do is whine.

A recently retired North player made comment of the level of entitlement that was on display and how it was out of sync with North culture.

He felt for the poor bastards that did it hard along the way and made this club the place that could deliver everything on a platter to them, through absolutely ZERO effort on their own behalf.

I can reliably tell you that the entire exercise doesn't sit well with many people, some who are at the club now.

And there it is. It is astonishing. Any time a man dares to criticize a woman no matter how evidenced based his criticism may be, it all boils down to him having "issues"with women or a hatred of all women.

Pathetic, isn't it?

It only serves to reveal the weakness of their arguments.

Oh s**t, rational point incoming, and I cannot counter it...........what will I do? I know, I will just label them a WOMAN HATER! Debate over!

Complete ******* morons.

All I see in 70% of AFLW criticism is a lot of blokes that need to sit down with a therapist and sort through their lady issues.

Of course that's "All you see"..........as you don't have a ****ing point in the first place.

If you were forced to to utilise logic, you would have given up and gone home hours ago.

You're an ALP supporter, not a North supporter.

That’s an example of what I’m talking about.

You’ll never see this from an EPL club, who all have woman’s teams as well. Because they are smart enough to realize that there is no need to market a product to all supporters that big chunk of them aren’t interested in. I want the club to remain first and foremost an AFL club.

To start off, I am not against female sport, I enjoy watching elite netball as well as my daughter's junior netball games. I was a foundation AFLW North member also.

In regards to the AFLW, I personally find it quite hard to watch, even infuriating at times, due to the amount of fundamental errors made. Would I go out of my way to go to a game? No, but the game needed a starting point though.

Being involved in a large junior football club I have seen first hand the growth in junior female participation, so the standard will be on an upward curve.

In saying that, the AFLW sides definitely ride on the existing passion of their clubs supporters. There is no way there would be the same amount of support for representative suburban sides or the same increase in junior participation rates if it wasn't for the tie in with AFL clubs.

A point made earlier in this thread was that all females like it. This is incorrect. My wife and mother-in-law are football lovers but have no interest in watching it because of it's current standard.

As a North person I hope the girls side is successful, mainly because it may have a positive impact on the Club via media, memberships and sponsors. This is why the Club ties it in with the men's side whenever possible in the media I believe.

At the end of the day, I doubt it is going anywhere as the product will no doubt improve. To a level that will win everyone over, I doubt it.

Once again showing yourself to be a hypocritical f wit. You refuse to recognize the rational points made by others with an opposing view to yours and just label the posters as some bullshit PC warriors.

Can you acknowledge that males have had a privileged existence in the Aussie Rules community since the game was invented?

If not, then the sexist calls are spot on.

I can't stand watching it. It's less skilled then an under 13's match. Fair enough on the lower levels, but wow it's bad they are shoving it down our throats when the product is so poor.

I can understand not liking the game but for real, just don't watch it, don't click the articles and scroll past AFLW posts. If you don't like it simply ignore it. Problem solved

This thread is embarassing. Well done all.

Snake, the women's league is a worthwhile pursuit. There are a lot of simple and easy to follow points in this thread that prove that. Yer just a dick who thinks its more important to win an argument than be right. So you dont really take on board any of the comments in the thread you just twist an argument out of context to suit your own negative point of view.

This thread is another example of your self indulgent behavior. It reads like an episode of mania.

You contribute some good stuff on football. You need to cut this s**t out because it annoys people and make the bigfooty experience a negative one.

I do ignore it but you see it on the news when watching it, I see it posted on the afl app when I'm scrolling, and I don't click articles. It's just a bad made up product.

Don't bother mate. All you'll get around here is snide remarks and * all intelligent content. We are one of the "wokest" boards on this website. It's a pity, because once upon a time we were easily the best.

Snake this is the best football board. Plenty are comfortable with the AFLW particularly when it doesn’t effect our main team one bit.

You’re not going to get a politicised pile on against it.

Most of us acknowledge the shortcoming and challenges of the AFLW. If you step back a bit, you’ll see the nuance. Accusations of being a fake supporter and parasites and political operatives are not leading to any worthwhile discussion.
