The question I have is not for Roby, but the Mods. Why is this troll thread allowed to flourish on the main board when all others are either moved to Bay13 or closed?

I just opened this thread up thinking it was Port Adelaide rankings for 2014 ala footywire style.

Then I've read that we are 9th whilst Adelaide are 4th.

Is this the 2013 version?

Power Rankings betting tips for Round 2 - Still the Saints

It appears that the Saints are still richly undervalued by the market so this is the best bet again this week for the third week in a row. Don't forget the last time the Saints played the Eagles there was less than a kick in it and the Eagles only just got up at the end with a counter-attacking goal. It shouldn't be a 10 goal spread.

Apart from that, nearly all the games are in line with the rankings predicted margins except GWS which is expected to make it another dirty day for the Dees at Spotless.

West Coast vs St Kilda (+64.5) - $3.5 @ $1.92 Sportsbet

GWS vs Melbourne (-21.5) - $1.5 @ $1.91 Betstar

North Melbourne vs Port Adelaide (+5.5) - $1 @ $1.91 Centrebet

Essendon vs Carlton (+14.5) - $1 @ $1.92 Sportsbet

Hawthorn vs Fremantle (-3.5) - $0.5 @ $1.91 Centrebet

Western Bulldogs vs Richmond (+21.5) - $0.5 @ $1.90 TAB

Adelaide vs Sydney (-6.5) - $0.5 @ $1.91 Centrebet

Gold Coast vs Brisbane (-6.5) - $0.5 @ $1.92 Betstar

Collingwood vs Geelong (+9.5) - $0.5 @ $1.91 Bet365

Current fund: $22.45
Total staked for 2014: $15.85

Last week's betting tips. And here.

Well done on martingaling a profit this week on the back of the Saints win. I watched the last quarter and don't know how GWS managed to lose, just butchering endless opportunities in the forward 50 near the end.

You shouldn't be using this term if you do understand what it means. You cannot be martingaling if it's always been in the black since inception.

This week he's up $8.95 with 66.3% ROI.

St. Kilda are doing well for him.

Check again, $12.5 staked for a return of $22.45.

I'm sure he will let us know how the umpires didn't get a decision right all night and that Hodge got injured. Some how Ryder getting injured improved Essendon and because they were down by a 30 odd point margin early (apparently this is the only time it counts) they should have lost by more.

I think I could almost write this thing.

Yes it was the most one-sided umpired game of the round and the Hawks should've won by at least five goals. Hodge's injury was cancelled out by Ryder. Mark Thompson said it improved things because they would've subbed Ambrose, the rankings don't measure it like that. It's why sometimes teams like Adelaide who have had a lot of injuries go up the rankings as they find other young players who can step up.

West Coast should shadow the Saints by 40 this week. Don't need no Power Rankings to tell that.

Will see.

Roby how close did we go to moving up a spot after beating the predicted rankings result of a draw by 9 goals, given how close you say it is in that part of the rankings ladder?

Very close. If they perform like they did on the weekend, Port should move to 7th and knock the Roos down in the process.

Why do people care so much? Roby has a model that he/she likes and wants to share. If you don't like it don't read the thread

I suppose the same can be said about the comments in the thread, but then again how can you not read them?

So how are you weighting the loss of Fyfe and Dawson from the Fremantle line-up; must take a lot of the sting out of the Hawks absences :)

The rankings are predicting the Hawks to win by a goal, now that Barlow is out as well.

Nice job. Quickly becoming my 'go to' thread for tipping

The power rankings have beaten the super tipping computer three years in a row. This is what it says on the swinburne webpage:

Stephen Clarke is Swinburne's own sporting statistics expert. He's the mind behind the highest profile AFL tipping computer in Australia that has produced tips every single week of the AFL season since 1981. The Swinburne Computer tips have been featured on The Footy Show, Today Tonight, The Herald Sun, The Age and The Australian Financial Review, and have proven at least as accurate as the media experts' predictions. Keep updated with the Swinburne Computer tips right here.

That been said the rankings were never designed for tipping but for finals and premiership potential yet beating the rankings is like trying to beat the 2014 version of Deep Blue in chess, particularly with the "infinite loop" formula I've devised.

p.s. troywheatley and Squiggly Lines rank Essendon 11th, Footymathsblog rank Essendon 12th. The Power Rankings have them 13th. Did Essendon perform better than this weekend than:

West Coast who won by 93 points against Melbourne

Collingwood who beat Sydney

Port Adelaide who won the showdown by 54 points?

You could make an argument that they performed better than St Kilda but at least they won in the end.

Richmond beat Carlton (despite umpiring disadvantage) therefore shouldn't Essendon do the same this week against this winless team?

so how many did you tip correctly last year?

No, but they performed better than:
-Adelaide
-Brisbane
-Carlton
-Hawthorn - seeing as they were expected to win easily
-GWS
-Gold Coast
-Melbourne
-Sydney
-Western Bulldogs

And you can make a case they played better than St Kilda, Richmond, and even North.
