"He will become the second longest serving coach of the club in the middle of the season"

I tend to forget this year will be Clarko's 10th at the helm. Oddly enough it feels like he only took the reins a handful of years back.

"if he can lead his men to another premiership this year, he will be talked about at Hawthorn with the same reverence as John Kennedy Snr and Allan Jeans."

A reasonably big call that, but in terms of the difficulties of modern day football, he probably should be.

Just out of interest, their coaching records at Hawthorn:
Kennedy - 14 seasons, 299 games (win % 60.53), 6 finals series, 5 GFs, 3 flags
Jeans - 9 seasons, 221 games (win % 71.94), 8 finals series, 6 GFs, 3 flags
Clarkson (not incl. 2014) - 9 seasons, 213 games (win % 60.56), 6 finals series, 3 GFs, 2 flags

His record stands up nicely against the other two there. Ultimately it's flags won that matter so he is clear 3rd at the moment. Get another this year though and that will put him up equally with Kennedy and Jeans with a better success rate from GFs and right in the middle for success rate from finals series. The win % would be greater than Kennedy's (albeit over less games) but less than Jeans (over more games).

I don't mean to put forth an argument over who would be considered the "best" coach at all as all three bring something different to the table and worked in different eras. What they would all bring to the table that is the same would be 3 premiership cups and that (if he can do it) would earn Clarko the honour of being revered in the same way as Kennedy and Jeans.

Now if he were to take us to our first three-peat and achieve 4 flags from 5 GFs then that could be another matter :p

"Pressure" on Clarkson's spot is rated as low. 3/10. What would you have to do as a coach to be rated as "very low" for pressure?
Don't think a coach could ever have "Very Low" pressure. There is always some expectation to perform regardless of previous results and footy is a very fickle world. We lose the first five matches and that gauge goes up rather quickly!

Kennedy's record is interesting. Only 6 finals series, but 5 GF's. it was all or nothing for JK1.

The other thing about Kennedy is that for his first 9 seasons there was only a final 4 (final 5 started in 1972). In 1960 & 1969 Hawthorn finished 5th, missing the finals both times on % (in '69 Richmond finished the H&A 4th and went on to win the flag).

1960 Hawthorn were one straight kick from outright first.

I'm confused. According to http://stats.rleague.com/afl/seas/1960.html the H&A season finished as follows:
Code:
# Team P W D L % Pts
1 Melbourne	18 14 0 4 143.1 56
2 Fitzroy 18 14 0 4 112.5 56
3 Essendon 18 13 0 5 125.1 52
4 Collingwood 18 11 0 7 114.3 44
5 Hawthorn 18 11 0 7 104.9 44
Might be thinking of 1964, we lost to Melbourne by 4 points in round 17, we finished 2 points outside the 4 and a game off first, which is where Melbourne finished.

all three bring something different to the table
In some aspects they all brought exactly the same thing to the table (apart from multiple massively oversized drinking vessels):

1. Discipline
2. Team first philosophy

In saying that:

JK was before my time but re-watching games and watching docos on Kennedy's Commandos (not to mention just the raw stats) painted a pretty good picture of his greatness as a coach. The way he celebrated with Clarko after last years GF just further displayed it, has to be in my top 3 moments supporting the club (along with Crawf and Dicker celebrating together after 2008 and Langers holding up his jumper to the crowd after the "merger match").

Jeans was right in my era so had the pleasure of watching most of the games he coached live. in Also considering the way his past players still speak about him as well as the various footage of him behind the scenes and the excellent YouTube video with him re-speaking his famous GF rev up along with JK, Barassi and Hafey (awesome video btw, also great watching for kids who play any sport to show them what it's all about, if you haven't seen it, Just DO!) it's understandable that I place him above all coaches and for that matter, most people in general. RIP Jeansy.

Clarko for mine has a fair way to go to be worthy of being mentioned in the same reverence at this stage but he is well on his way. The biggest show of his ability didn't come in Premiership years IMO but in 2010 when he made the decision to change his attitude to stubbornly stick with his one gameplan and go in the complete opposite direction and open his mind to other options, listening to people, learning about past present and future theories used in sports across the globe and taking risks where no other coach was. To make such a 180 degree change in your whole mindset shows incredible character and I have nothing but respect for the bloke.

I seriously believe that it's just a matter of time before he is in their esteemed company but he's got a bit to do yet.

Unfortunately, Clarko's off field behaviour is nowhere near the standard set by Kennedy and Jeans.

JK was a masterful orator. I have never heard a coach who was as inspiring as him. For all you younger supporters Kennedy was the master who shaped our mighty club.
Jeans and Clarkson followed in his footsteps but never forget that Jack Hale and the great John Kennedy made this club believe it could and would be great.

I know the record books say A Joyce Premiership Coach but the 1988 Flag is at least half Jeans'. FFS I recon I could have coached that side to win the flag.

INTEGRITY all three have it in spades.

Yabby was a legend.

Clarkson is amazing in the way he has continued to grow despite losing key staff each year and football becoming a ultra professional sport. Like most sports, comparisons across eras can be futile but he must be recognised as being exceptional in the way he and the club as a whole have regained the passion to succeed during such a trying period in modern football.

If we jag it this year, he'll become the first Hawthorn coach to win back2back flags. If he was to achieve this he would have every right to be considered the equal in my opinion

Can't argue with that. Maybe in a lot of people's minds even a little better. For all the success we have had since 1961, be have been blessed with some of the finest coaches going around. Hawthorn Football Club boast a long list of quality people.
