Sing the song ourselves once we win :)
Absolutely, before and after, they can have a minutes silence, when Jamie tape died tragically what was done?

They have a minutes silence on Anzac Day , they still play the songs, many innocent people were murdered in the wars , afl too reactionary

A minutes silence before the game..and no banners is appropriate to reflect on Phil Walsh's life
Not sure about why the AFL would not want the song to be sung at the end of the game...I'm sure Phil Walsh would want the song sung loud...does it all go back to normal next week? If so What have we learnt?

Watching the Coll v Hawks game...everyone is cheering, booing etc... Regular footy game...commentators Bwuce, Den and Lingy all seem to be their usual flog selves

We should all enjoy and cherish the good moments life has to offer.

I have family coming down from NSW for this weekend's match and I'm disappointed we can't sing the song if we win. Wanting to sing the song doesn't make me disrespectful to Phil Walsh, I just think they're two entirely unrelated matters.

Singing the song may or may not be disrespectful.

Not singing the song would be absolutely respectful.
Bullshit, did they sing the song after teddy whiten, after Anzac Day?

What a load of rot. Disrespect us highlighting it by not singing the song

Not sure what you mean here.

We've never seen anything like the murder of a current AFL coach. I think the AFL's response has been spot on. Not sure of the relevance of the 'nanny state'. Asking people to be quietly respectful and put club allegiance to one side for one round of footy is asking too much?

Can't believe that people are so concerned about not being able to sing the song for a week. Seriously if that is the biggest issue you're facing right now you're doing well for yourself. I'll be at the game tomorrow, I'll be respectful for the minutes silence, once the ball bounces I'll cheer as hard as I normally do and then post game I'll walk away from the G win lose or draw thankful that for 2-3 hours I got to forget about the real problems that life throws up, not having been denied the ability to sing a song.

Calm down mate, I'm just saying it would be a great sign of respect for us to keep things in check in this moment of absolute horror for the family and friends of Phil Walsh.
Does not compare to Ted Whitten, and it's just stupid for me to have to point that out.

The reaction that some had to the news this morning was to cancel the round. These were members of the public and media. Doubtless some at AFL HQ, the Crows and other teams with a strong relationship with Walsh felt similarly.
The minute of silence has many precedents.
Today was unprecedented
To recognise the horrific nature of Walsh's death and the impact on so many players, coaches and officials is not extreme. To ask that people not sing the song for this week is not extreme.
It is a way of asking that we all come together after the game. After 100 minutes of striving to win, for a minute it won't be about winning, but about being a community of football fans and professionals, linked by our love of the game. It serves as a way of acknowledging that the members of the community are more important than the game.
I'm glad I can be there for both moments.

Life goes on, and from what ive read about Phil Walsh today his attitude after a near death experience in a bus accident in Peru was that life is short, do what you can while you can.

Given that, if we win, we sing the song loudly for ourselves and for Phil, thats what he would want.

A minutes silence, black arm bands and a huddle in the middle are all greay ways to show respect by doing extra things.

By restricting ourselves we are disrespecting Phil Walsh and no one man is bigger than our game, no matter who or what they have achieved.

Each winning team could, perhaps, observe a minute's silence in the dressing rooms and then say: "We dedicate this victory to our brother Phil Walsh and we sing our club song in his honour" and then sing the song. ???
