Good to see Carlton wear their new white clash strip... oh wait.

Umpires in blue for this game. That's not usual? Blue is usually saved for when someone is wearing a lot of yellow/gold, not just a bit?
They were wearing this muted yellow for the Swans and Hawks game too, which makes no sense given the Hawks were in all brown and zero if Hawthorn are in their home jumper.

I always thought the 99-2002 'mustard on a tennis ball' colour was absolutely atrocious and their insistence on bringing it across to all local leagues a horrible move. but it least it made sense, stood out, and caused no clash issues.

Wouldn't shock me if they just start randomly rotating the colours.

The umps uniforms need to change though, they haven't for 20 years and they look so cheap.

They dont look great but feel nice to run around in and arent restrictive at all. fun fact the umpires wear the exact same tops as the club runners with their weird pink shirts with yellow sleeves.

It's time to give umpires their aura back...

450-game ump explains why the game's more challenging than ever

I've never really understood the move to abolish white shorts. I'm the furthest thing from what you'd call a 'footy traditionalist' but there are plenty of situations where the requirement of a clash guernsey does not suffice to supplant a traditional matchup. I think the best mix is somewhere between traditional and pragmatic look. If we really cared about full contrast then each club would be dressed up in highlighter colours like the AFLX tournament, it just looks jarring.

Essendon and Hawthorn simply don't clash enough to be worth talking about.

I wouldn't say there's a push to abolish them - just to use more practically

Ie it makes no sense for teams without white to wear white short against teams that do (ie Roos, Cats, Pies & Swans)

AFLW has shown there's many games they aren't needed at all.

Cats v Freo they were used correctly - the team with white jumper wore white shorts.

Hawks v Bombers they were also useful.

Just wished they'd never put teams in white shorts v Roos
