As an overcompensation for the harsh criticism levelled at him for the first four years of his career, media groupthink mistakenly decided to arrive at the consensus view that Hawkins had "broken out" as a star of the game and ever since then instead of simply acknowledging that that initial call was wrong, they've doubled-down on their own hyperbolic appraisal in spite of it clearly not reflecting reality.
 
Why don't they play every centre bounce - to - forward 50 like they do in the 4th?

does that mean something is happening behind the scenes?

I think you'll be hard pressed to make an argument that 'something happening behind the scenes' is causing us to continually do enough in every aspect of the game bar our final kick.

If there was a lack of effort, obvious structural weaknesses, clear disunity then yeah.

But the only reason this result isn't already decided is purely because we are mentally deficient when there is a set of posts in front of us.
