Breaking news: Home team boos umpires for paying frees fairly and equally.

Are you surprised by this? It happens everywhere. The home crowd want an armchair ride from the umps. They want to have an impact. So what? It adds to the atmosphere. Would you prefer empty crowds?

Atleast they had 40k in terrible conditions which was used as the excuse for Victorians staying away from the footy last week when they only got crowds of 26 or 27k.

Maybe you just aren't used to it as much as Victorian clubs travel interstate a hell of a lot less, but the noise of affirmation doesn't just live interstate. It exists in Melbourne against interstate sides as well. It's why it's called a "home ground advantage.".
Jesus you crap on.

I've seen Melbourne play in Adelaide against both Crows and Port every year since god knows when and they were off the charts last night whilst given an arm chair ride. It's not that hard to comprehend.

If you want to keep blowing wind up Port's arse power to you I guess.

Surprised more people STILL haven't realised this. I suspect if a fan threw a banana at an indigenous player in Victoria it would have gotten a lot more attention than the vicco media guys gave it.

The more wins port have the worse they will get. Port premiers is not something you want to see. If you think Richmond trolling has been bad, just wait to see what a port premiership will look like. Port trolls will be coming out from the wood work.

Lets be fair, there are been some pretty bad premiers. Collingwood were terrible. Richmond were bad. Just imagine if Essendon won over the next few years.

Yeah, it's weird. It's like the premiership isn't enough for supporters (let's face it, we actually get nothing physically and did little to nothing to get the result so we are left with an empty feeling) and need to troll the losers more than enjoy the result.

Having said that, we both know it would be terrible football life in SA if port were to win as a crows supporter and vice versa.

Went back on AFL Live highlights to have a look as I thought it was long as well.

The mark was taken about 10 mtr forward of the back of the centre square. The square is 45mtr long/wide I think (correct me if wrong) and there is a 10/11 mtr gap between the square and the 50 mtr arcs. That totals 167mtr. So 50 mtr straight down the centre of the field would mean that the mark would be about 5 mtr inside the D50 which it was. Allow for the angle means the 50 should have stopped just outside A50 so was about 6mtr too long. (Pythagoras)

Definitely looks like it came in from the boundary a bit too much. AO is a skinny ground at only 123mtr so 5 mtr in from the boundary means its about 58 mtr from the centre goal to goal line. 50 mtr penalty was about half distance to goals hence mark should have been about 29-30 mtr offset from goal to goal line. Using the mow lines on the field which look like 10 mtr apart, the mark was set about 25 mtr off, so again about 5 mtr too far in.

So about 55mtr penalty and 5mtr too far inboard. Too detailed?

But anyway it was the Hoff. He would have kicked it anyway!

You could also point to the 40m penalty given to Marshall that should have put him in the goalsquare.

He really was playing good footy again for you guys. Pretty much exactly how he was for us. The good news is he has done his knee before hasn't he if I'm not wrong? Which shows he can come back and not be a different player, one that doesn't reach his full potential. At least you know he can come back and get back to a really high level at some point and should still be a good 10 yr player for Melbourne football club.
I’ve got no doubt he’ll come back and still be a great player, but this year will probably end up being a missed opportunity and he’s so important to us. Wouldn’t be surprised if we miss the 8 all together but that may be my scarred, pessimistic demon attitude talking

I've been to interstate games a bit with a very biased crowd the last couple of years. If you dont like home teams booing correct umpiring decisions dont go is my suggestion. They're not trying to be fair, they're supporting their team.
I dont even mind when they boo Toby, I think he loves playing the villain.

Not often, but occasionally the better team loses. It happened last night.

Melbourne only have themselves to blame. You get what you deserve in footy.

It wasn't the umpires.

You weren't the better side. Your defence was garbage and you didn't make your opportunities count... And as the game went on you were beaten by harder at it inside on ballers and in the air.

Melbourne won the midfield battle but we were the better team.

Our defence and forward line killed it. Melbourne were really good but the better team won

We couldn’t handle their flooded backline. 18 players in there at times. Went in too tall leaving out Spargo and replacing him with no-one. Too many inside mids and not enough crumbers to take advantage. A team that wins the inside 50s 68-39 shouldnt lose a game of football. We should’ve been seven goals up at halftime but couldn’t get it done.

The umpiring was a disgrace but that’s something of a side issue. The crowd having a blue fit at every single decision against was more comical than anything. They’re entitled to do so.

Says something about how good Port's defence was last night - for Melbourne to have 68 inside 50's, but only score 9 goals is testament to how good our back 6 was. Maybe it also says something about the Melbourne forwards on the big stage: they go missing when it really matters.

Melb fans, as a Port supporter, i feel your pain. We lost a final and other critical matches when we destroyed teams last year, on all stats other then the score.

The last 5 mins both teams had their fair share of frees or marks not paid. Yes the Brayshaw mark at 1.40 to go, but mins earlier Marshall marked in D50 with 4.19 to go, not paid. At 3.50 Salem got stone cold run down in the centre square....nothing.

Melbourne just fumbled. Sorry this doesn't suit the narrative, but its all there if you choose to take your angry glasses off
The Salem one was actually the right decision, had a split second with the ball in hand before getting run down, maybe 2-3 steps. I've seen a lot of those let go every week so it's not as if it was a howler. The melksham blocking free was 1 of the worst this year. I'd argue the contact below the knees free as well against melksham was borderline as well. If he kicks the goal is it still a free?.

I had no issue with the below the knees one. It’s a stupid rule but it’s the umpire’s job to implement it. The blocking one however was farcical.

Cameron shitferbrains Ling agreeing with every idiotic decision only added insult to injury.

Hawthorn have on average 60 inside 50s a game every game. We're nearly last in efficiency, it's not because of the defence of the opposition it's because the players are making dumb decisions with ball in hand, we also don't have the marking targets to make the most of it. Melbourne do but they kept kicking it nowhere near there advantage. Should have backed themselves more to take shots on the run for goal.

You might want to look at all the angles on the sliding free. Exactly what the rule is there for and paid correctly, was dangerous.

Again though if he kicks the goal is it still a free?

That's fair enough, but it's not the first time in 2018 where Port's defence has been under siege, and they've stood up admirably - similar scenario at the SCG in round 2, but the Swans only had 6 goals to half time.

That's Melbourne's problem their defence is sub-par, it's got to the point where they have to send McDonald back and try weidemann to see if he can develop into what they need up forward. I get it's robbing Peter to pay Paul but it's causing them to lose games being so weak back there. Without lever they have no plan b which is why he is on big money.

You won’t be seeing T Mac going back any time soon. He’s averaging the most goals per game in the league. He kicked 30% of our total score last night.
