opening early odds for round 3

pies 1.55 v rich 2.3

ess 1.33 v carl 3

freo 2.1 v west 1.65

port 1.9 v adel 1.8

st kilda 1.95 v dogs 1.75

sydney 1.42 v bris 2.65

melb 2.9 v geel 1.36

hawks 1.55 v kangas 2.3

carlton are huge value always trouble us dons, like adel and freo as well, tough week for punting..

Can't see much value myself - odds are almost exactly what I would mark.

Bulldogs $1.75 - not even with $8 notes!! St Kilda have good recent record v Dogs and both sides got pumped last week so don't think you want to take odds on about either as no idea which side will rebound better from last weeks pathetic displays

Collingwood have a poor record against the Tiges and on the return trip from Subiaco will probably lose.

Essendon 1.33? Too short, but I think we'll smash them. Over 39.5 points is the go. Also like Melbourne at those odds.

I'll wait for the IAS odds, but so far I like Melbourne @ $2.90 and especially the Kangas at $2.30.

They haven't been far off, North - I reckon this might be the week.
Yeah, I reckon the Pies might not be in wooden spoon form at the moment like everyone is saying either after their effort in the West - so maybe the Roos getting close to the Pies is an indicator that they held their own against a team in solid form. (Yes, they choked but still)

Good effort against Port too but Port came back from Perth so may have been a little tired. But the Hawks to me are a little inconsistent, so if the Roos get out to 2.80 or so, I'll back them.

I like the look of Brisbane at the moment but you have to consider that they haven't beaten the Swans at the SCG since 2004 & they have a (4 wins - 3 losses) record at that ground. Also throw in that the Swans could be missing Hall & very rarely thrash sides due to the way they play the game. Also Brisbane haven't beaten the Swans since round 1 of the 2004 season. Anyway might be worth looking at Brisbane in the under 39.5 point range depending on the odds you get.

Freo aren't bad value either but they aren't in great form at the moment but you would imagine that they will lift against the Weagles.

Like the looks of Richmond, and the Roos.

Don't like punting for the team playing against my team though.

TAB are over the odds with Carlton at $3, Centrebet and Sportingbet have gone $2.80ish which means the TAB will correct itself.

I think Carlton under 39.5 will be the value bet of the round, probably $4 you'd think

I cant see any worthy bets there that stand out. Freo seem to have the wood on WC thou but arnt in good form ATM. Carlton look ok but i dunno how much to read into Essendons form so far.

Well I'm sticking my neck out. Have won $200 on the AFL so far this year, have put $150 on Carlton under 39.5 at $3.60 with the TAB, and $150 on Carlton straight out at $3.06 (average odds, ends up just over the $3 TAB offering which are best anywhere after commission) on Betfair.

I'll either end up $100 down for the year or $700 up, wish me luck

Thats a brave bet, I might have a week of punting. Although Kangaroos are fairly juicy odds, but the roos are too unreliable!

Essendon -19.5 at $2
Sydney to win (1-39) at $2.20
Multi them together and you will be looking the goods at $4.40.
Teams like Kangaroos, Richmond, Geelong, etc are too risky at this stage of the year.
Essendon and Sydney should both win.
Essendon should easily win by 20 points or more and Sydney are not a high scoring team and with Hall in doubt, they will not make the game a blow out so a margin between (1-39) looks pretty safe.

Put $150 on the pies to beat Richmond @ 1.78

Just withdraw 1k of winnings which I will put into shares and still had $420 to play with in my account (after starting with $100 pre NAB cup).

Pretty nice.

Have a feeling the Pies will get up, if they don't, what can ya do :D?

**** you man ...now you are prolly the best punter around...now you have completely ****ed me...i put 200 on ninthmond :(

I have got 4 in both rounds for my tipping so form is poor.

Collingwood v Richmond - Rather avoid. Form is pretty even.

Essendon -18.5 v Carlton - seems like best money of round

St Kilda v Dogs - lots of people loading up on dogs, I think its best you ignore saints last week. Should be more direct this week. Prob another not to touch

Geelong -19.5 v Melbourne - there talent is undeniable, now they have confidence.

Kangas v Hawks - similar to saints game, rather not touch but if your going to touch it, go the underdog... Kangas.

Will not touch the Derby games.

awesome - well done. i was on richmond having watched them the last few weeks. they just dont win.

no clement
debutants
coming back from perth (not that bigger factor)
i thought swan was more underdone than that.

simmonds back (didnt expect him to play though).

please pm me some bets.

Early in the week I was considering the Tigers but was hoping their odds would drift a bit further. Mainly for the reasons you cited Harro - the debutants and coming back from Perth in particular.

The odds didn't drift though, instead they shortened, so surprisingly I ended up going the other way onto the Pies - got them at 1.90 on Betfair. The main reason for the change was another look at Richmond's form - they had been plodding along while the Pies actually showed something last week against the Eagles. I also backed them -8.5 and over 39.5, the latter which would have netted me an extra $600 if Rocca didn't get that out on the full, but I'm not complaining. Especially since I thought I'd done my money at half time (check the gameday thread).

Anyway the rest of the weekend I like the Bombers over 39.5, the Saints at 2.10, Adelaide at 2.02, Melbourne at 3.45 and the Kangaroos at 2.32. All outsiders, which means 2 of them will probably lose, but I genuinely think all sides have a big chance. The Saints never play well at the Gabba, this week should be back to normal against the Doggies who were slaughtered at home; The Dees have been a little underprepared but Geelong haven't beaten anyone yet either (did Carlton even show up last week?) - that considered, 3.45 is great. Adelaide are back as of last week and the Kangas are a real show - they were gritty last week and performed well in patches against Collingwood; I think they can break through this week.

Sydney over 39.5 might also be the go.

Swans wont win by over 40, we are generally a low scoring side because we play on opposition terms and Brisbane will do the same sort of thing the others do, attempting to run down our ticker by running forward and flooding back, won't be a pretty affair, Swans by 15-25. Sydney under 39.5 is safe.
