The final game of round seven is between Collingwood and Brisbane. The Lions are yet to chalk up a win in 2018 and will hope to end the horrible start to the season with a win over Collingwood. On the other side, Collingwood have made a solid start to the season, winning three and losing three, but stumbled last week against Richmond.

Collingwood

After flying high for three weeks, Collingwood fell back to earth last week after running out of gas in the last half against the Tigers. The Magpies looked good in the first half, with Adam Treloar and Jeremy Howe starring. However, the extremely short break was always going to affect them greatly, and the ability to absorb the Richmond pressure dropped away greatly towards the end the game. After a stellar start to the season, Brodie Grundy was well beaten in his battle against Nankervis. The game was also a bruising affair for Collingwood, with key players with Aish, Maynard, and Reid all receiving injuries. The Aish injury is especially frustrating, as the often-maligned player was really starting to stamp his place in the best 22. However, Collingwood will be bolstered with some handy players coming back from injury, in with Darcy Moore and Taylor Adams finally coming back into the side.

Flynn Appleby is the man to watch this week. Appleby was a late inclusion last week against the Tigers, and it was somewhat of a mixed bag. While the rookie did make some mistakes, he also did some good things, and was able to get himself another week in the senior side. However, with some key players coming back, he will really want to show something to the coaching side in order to prove he belongs in the side.

Brisbane

Well it’s fair to say that the start to the 2018 season has not been ideal for the Lions. Brisbane has struggled for the vast majority, with few standouts this season. While the future may be somewhat bright for the Lions, the performances they have put forward have really cast some doubt over whether this is the right team to go forward with. The major problem with the Lions is their inability to hit the scoreboard. They have only managed to score over 75 points in a game twice this season. Their most shocking performance came against Richmond where the Lions could manage a measly 17 points for the whole game. To beat Collingwood, Brisbane will need to hit the scoreboard much more often then they have done in the recent weeks.

The man to watch for Brisbane is Dayne Zorko. Zorko had a stellar 2017 season, nearing on All Australian selection, but his 2018 season has not been quite as excellent with the midfielder being routinely tagged. As a result, his disposal output has dropped. With Nathan Buckley’s reluctance to tag players, it will be interesting to see if he does give a Magpie the tagging on Zorko. Luke Hodge is also someone to watch. After moving north, Hodge has somewhat struggled at the Lions. While his leadership is invaluable, some experts have claimed that the premiership captain has lost a step. Hodge will want to prove the doubters wrong, as the season enters deeper waters.

Congratulations Darcy Moore

The young son of a gun is playing his 50th game today. Slowly but surely he is making progress into being one of the best future forward prospects.

Tip

Not sure how this game will unfold. However, it is quite possible Collingwood will be somewhat lackluster.

Collingwood by 22.

It's hard to like Brisbane. Bedtime is 9pm, its river would drown Noah, and the people vote for autocrats like Campbell, Joh and Pauline. Throw in paranoia of southern staters and you get the picture.

Let's recall the Bears (who didn't even want to be based in Brisbane). Founded by Skasey, a corporate crim who was literally an oxygen thief, and Paul Cronin who Skasey thought was Dave Sullivan. It was a total cluster.

Then the AFL gave them Fitzroy, a good song, a proper logo that they f*cked up by turning it into the Paddle Pop Lion, Lethal, and massive massive salary cap advantages. Despite these it took a goal umpire to rob Rocca and our '02 flag tilt.

Their fans are irritating and are the idiots of the AFL village. I have no sympathy for their current plight.

Collingwood by 57 points.

We should win this Game.

Hopefully Moore can finally get better Delivery to him as that has Improved last 3 Weeks.

Grundy vs Martin be a Very Interesting Match Up as both can become Mids after Ruck Contests.

So I tip us to win by 33. Too Many Changes to think we win Big

Absolute danger game. If we are the real deal we win this. If not, Brisbane win. Simple as that. If we cant win this, the blame goes soley on the coaches and match comittee who continually pick these questionable teams

IF we Lose then we are back to where we where and look like Massive Pretenders.

Hopefully NOT going to Happen

The last half decade we are champions for knocking over teams ranked above us, only to be beaten by those ranked close to the spoon.
If, and it’s a big if, we have taken a step we should win by 10 goals plus.
I’m not at all confident that we can win by even 20 points.
But we will win.

These are the games we are expected to win and need to win if our resurgence as a side is to be believed.

Brisbane are 0-6 for a reason. They are shite.

These are the games we must win if we want to return to finals football.

Just get it done, bank the 4pts and move on with confidence to a much tougher assignment against Geelong next week.

Pies by 50pts.

I'll take 1. and 9. please

Me too but selection has put my mind at ease a bit.
Adams and Moore are great additions. It just staggers me that we have Fas and Wells running around in tbe VFL. Add those two in today and we win comfortably.

Still not sure about Fasolo, but the VFL report on Wells yesterday (might have been from barrackers) was that he looked fitter/trimmer. That's probably what the club has been waiting for, in which case we should see Wells next week.

Fas has been left in the VFL for too long.

As a number have said: danger game.

Because

- the intensity of last two weeks means this is a come down
- we’re travelling
- we have youth that may start to tire, at least psychologically.

But at least it’s against a team that’s struggling. So is still think we win by about 40 points.
