The AFL has finally stepped in and addressed the disgraceful umpiring of 2017.

It's a pity nothing was done before the finals series debacle.

Perfect timing by the AFL in announcing this decision.

Umpiring is currently in shambles. But it's more to do with the hopelessly grey and complex rules that have to be adjudicated in a split second more than anything else.

Also the fact that umpires are not professionals yet.

STart paying them more and making this their one and only job and we will start to see good umpires.

Must had looked at the premiers having the worst free kick differential in the comp and decided to do something about it.

I've never rated the schwabs. That family must have a fortress full of compromising photos

"In that part of the ground, which was the last third of the ground, the actual bloke on the mark doesn’t have to go east-west. He can go off on a line tangent. Because of the way you line them up for goal. It’s two-thirds east-west when you are defending and when you come into your attacking third and you’re lined up with the middle of the goal, you can go on that arc."

    Not Schwabby's finest moment.

Hardwick bit his lip all year until after the Geelong game when we were -74. Went +15 for the remaining five games. Genius.

Surely you’d sack the director every week then. Don’t see how 2017 was any different

After the disgraceful one sided display v GWS in the PF the man gave the 2 worst umpires on the field the job again next week in the GF. Just staggering.

I’m very doubtful. If they had an enclave they’d be even bigger campaigners and harder to get rid of

They get paid up to $150k a year. That is pretty good part time work...

Ron that line forces the player on the mark to move closer to goals not equidistant.

Schwab was correct. The player should be following the curve of the 50m line.

Besides if the guy with the ball moves sideways its Play on.

3 poor decisions late in games that effectively cost us 12 points during our mid season slump. We should have been 2 games clear on top of the H&A ladder. I'm still so angry, even after our barnstorming charge to the premiership in the face of overwhelming odds.

I am sure we have had a word, and possibly were the catalyst for this change.

The umpiring this season was all a conspiracy against Richmond so they wouldn’t win the flag, but they were just too good.

Schwabs last time as umpires coach was really good. There’s too Amun cooks now, he’s probably glad to be out of it

His comeback is to put you on ignore and claim you're beneath him.
Irony is he's the biggest bottom feeder on this forum.

Good news for the fans though, I’ve been calling for Amun to replace pies for years now.

It was discussed in detail at the time. "Play on" was not called by the umpire who is clearly visible in the first picture. Martin ran in on a slight (Franklin) arc to get extra distance as he was having a shot for goal. Cameron charged straight over the mark on a slight diagonal.

    Shame, Schwabby, shame.

    Ha. That made me laugh.

You reckon they make more than some players?

    Dreaming.
