14. Long Term Injury List Rules 2017-2022

(a) Each AFL Club may apply to the AFL General Counsel to transfer a Player suffering a long term injury from its Primary List to its Long Term Injury List. A long term injury means an injury or illness suffered by a Player which, in the opinion of the AFL Medical Director, after consultation with the AFL Club Medical Officer, will prevent or is likely to prevent a Player, having due regard to his health and safety, from participating in a Match for a period of not less than six weeks from 2018 onwards from the date the injury or illness is diagnosed.
(b) A Player’s name may only be added to the Long Term Injury List with the Player’s consent and with the approval of the AFL General Counsel.
(c) An injured Player who is transferred to an AFL Club’s Long Term Injury List is ineligible to play in the AFL Competition or in any other competition for the period:
  1. the Player’s name is on the AFL Club’s Long Term Injury List; or
  2. for the 2018 AFL Season and each subsequent AFL Season, of six weeks, whichever is greater. The period shall commence from the day on which the AFL General Counsel gives his approval for the injured Player to transfer to the AFL Club’s Long Term Injury List.
(d) An AFL Club is unable to transfer an injured Player to its Long Term Injury List after 2.00pm on Thursday following the Preliminary Final (or any such later round as determined by the General Counsel) of the AFL Premiership Season in each year.
(e) For the period a Player remains on the Long Term Injury List of an AFL Club, that AFL Club may apply to the AFL General Counsel for permission to temporarily promote a Rookie to its Primary List and subject to item 4(g) of Schedule C, any payments made to the Rookie for the period that the Rookie remains on the Primary List as a replacement for a Player on the Long Term Injury List, shall be excluded from the Total Player Payments of the AFL Club.
(f) Prior to 31 October each year, each AFL Club must determine whether a Player on the Long Term Injury List is to be included in the AFL Club’s Primary List for the following AFL Season.
(g) Football Payments made to a Player on the Long Term Injury List shall be included in calculating the Total Player Payments for the AFL Club.
(h) When an AFL Club transfers a Player from the Long Term Injury List back to the Primary List (“the date of transfer”) and the Rookie who was temporarily promoted to the Primary List in accordance with clause 14(e) in respect of that Player remains on the Primary List after the date of transfer:
  1. the Rookie shall be taken into account in calculating the number of Players on the Primary List for so long as the name of the Rookie remains on the Primary List after the date of transfer; and
  2. the Football Payments made to the Rookie in respect of the period his name remains on the Primary List after the date of transfer shall be taken into account in calculating the Total Player Payments of that AFL Club.
(i) The provisions of clause 14(h) shall not apply to circumstances where the name of the Rookie remains on the Primary List after the date of transfer for the purpose of replacing another Player whose name is on the Long Term Injury List.
(j) On and from 1 November 2017, “Rookie” as used in this clause shall be read as “Category B Rookie”

Don't know about anyone else but I hope Dawson, Foote, Robinson and Marsh are all at the club for a long time. Really like the look of them, especially Robbo and Marsh, who were on the brink of best 22 after just a few games.

Id say the following will be gone at the end of the year
Davis
Melican
T Richards
McGlynn
Hiscox
Derickx
Maybe Robinson

If im not mistaken we can then add 8 to the list if required? That is of course we let go of 6 players as I suggested.

Robinson? He's midfield depth. As far as i'm concerned we need as many mids as possible even if they're running around in the NEAFL. We completely overlook our midfield but take out JPK, Parker, Hanners or even Jack and we aren't the same. With Mitchell possibly leaving, the onus will be on guys like Robinson, Foote, Hewett etc to potentially fill the void.

I said maybe.... obviously you take out 4 of any sides best midfielders youre not going to be anywhere near the same...I can tell you Robinson ain't fixing that if for some reason jpk hanners parker and Jack were not playing.

Doubt Davis will be delisted. He has talent and potential but might take some time getting there.

Robinson definitely not! He was in our best team til his injury.
Thars good news re Davis, I really liked him as a junior bit have not seen much of him in our ressies. Whats he been doing positional wise?

He's literally played everwhere.

Was a midfield last year both inside and outside, pinch hit a bit in the ruck. Started in the forwards this year and but then went back, eseentially doing a swap with Xavier before his injury.

Almost exactly 12 months ago Aliir signed a one year extension based on not a hell of a lot and a lot of us were surprised. You think a one year extension for Davis along the same lines is the most likely scenario?

One day he could though. I recall not being overly impressed by JPK but now he's a gun. I'd like to see some of our young mids backed to follow that path

That's great news to see the red flash resign. One of those players that makes watching the swans so enjoyable. I still think there's plenty of improvement to come for Gary if he can stay fit and get continuity. He looked very pleased to have resigned in the interview. Couldn't keep the smile off his face which is great to see. I've really noticed that the players seem to be enjoying playing together and the camaraderie appears to be very high. I think the injection of youth has added to that plus a few young fellas playing for the club they've always supported can't hurt.

Doesn't seem that any contract negotiations have taken place with Towers. He has occasional glimpses of brilliance, very valuable speed. Worth keeping IMO. Perhaps the talks gave taken place and he wants to leave.
