AFL Silver Membership Waitlist Number Part 2

Nothing says you are valued by letting silver members get priority GF tickets over you!

Why go through this trouble just to get ****ed over? I feel for legit silvers waiting their turn and golds getting equally shat on

If a silver waitlist person with club support has spent 15 years... that seems kind of reasonable.. Nothing sooner than that

Nope, you wait until gold. I waited 12 years. It is what it is.
So you object to people who have waited longer than you had to receiving the same perk you have?

Nice to know we’ve got that cleared up.

Yes, that is exactly how it works. You are the only person who is whinging about it because everyone understands how the system works. There are more people that are AFL members than there were 30 years ago so no shit you have to wait longer now.

I’m not complaining. I’m just happy to point out the hypocrisy re: the “hard yards”. 😂

I am 13 years silver and still 3500 odd on the waitlist and although I am pretty p*ssed off to still be waiting (supposed to have been 8-10 years) but I agree with the Gold sentiments of "suck it up". I have waited this long so I will be pretty annoyed if I get to Gold early and then I can never get a GF ticket as a non competing club of support member. What a waste of money.
Far better to
  • get photo IDs and boot people out who breach rules.
  • stop giving life members and players GF tickets that they give away or sell
  • buy some resale tickets and boot those members out
  • stop anything to do with Medallion Club
  • don't invite lapsed members back straight into Gold (what the hell was that about?)
  • give standing room back to AFL members for the GF.

If they cracked down on reselling / sharing a lot more seats would free up because people who aren't going wouldn't want to risk it anymore. They might also reevaluated whether it is worth continuing their membership.

What is stopping them cracking down on misuse of the membership? Given their own staff get free silver membership as a perk, they probably don't want to know what is going on.

Was this survey just sent to Golds? Nothing in my inbox.

My feedback was the same as every year
  • Better facilities - dining/bars vs the MCC is horrible especially considering we pay the same membership fees (when you take into account the cost of a GF ticket)
  • Better seating - best seats at MCG reserved for Medallion Club, terrible seating options at Marvel and need to pay extortionate rates for level 2 seating
  • DO NOT expand Gold member numbers
  • Crack down on people transferring memberships especially for GF
  • Release info around membership club support break down by Gold/Silver
  • Release info around number of membership upgrades offered vs taken up
  • Release info on join dates for those offered membership upgrade (MCC do this)
  • Fix the website so it is easy to find info around walk up areas for specific matches (maybe I'm dumb but I can never find this, always need to go back to find emails)
  • Ticketing websites are shithouse
Not expecting anything to change, they'll do whatever they want with no accountability.

I was concise.

I mentioned this too, that I always go mcg.org.au for carpark/walk up areas. It gives alot of extra information too. For example

The latter is very light on information

The 15 year silver is paying less for their membership than a Gold. Why should they get equal privileges? Plus they have still been a member for less time overall. Eg if someone reached Gold in 10 years they have probably been a member for 20 years now.

Silver don’t get equal privileges. Only the additional golds will, and those additional golds will be paying what the existing golds do, so to my eye that’s completely equitable.

The proposal isn’t to kick existing gold members out to make room for the additional golds, so I fail to see the relevance of your overall time as member argument as well. As I’ve already alluded to - most existing golds had shorter waiting periods to become gold than the additional silvers that will benefit from the expansion.

The fees paid in prior years are for the benefits provided in those prior years, those costs aren’t paying for an ongoing stranglehold over the adoption rate of new gold members.

So in short, not one of the points you made is actually relevant to the proposed change. I’ll acknowledge there is a value depletion to golds as a result of the change (being the reduced likelihood of getting non club support grand final tickets), but I’d also argue the price that gold members is lower than the market rate for the benefits that gold membership entails (as evidenced by 30k silver members waiting and the relatively low churn rate which suggests that the value for money of the membership is sensational).

But again it makes it harder to get tickets for games. Missed out on tickets to the 2023 Prelim and I know others who missed in 2018 for the Prelim.

Add to the fact adding more Gold probably means adding more Silver. Have missed tickets to Anzac day the last 2 years and have others who missed tickets to the Carlton game last year.

Maybe not a issue if you follow Melbourne or North but Collingwood have no issue regularly filling the AFL members. Games against the non Victorian clubs have reserved seating selling in the back rows of level 4. Those game use to be a walk up on level 1.

There wording on the 2023 Grand Final suggested that not all Gold of club supporter where guaranteed if Collingwood and another big Melbourne were playing.

That bottom point is false. If any two vic teams play in a GF there would be enough seats for competing Golds.

As I said the wording has changed. People who asked the AFL membership department directly were told they couldn't guarantee all club support members would get a ticket if Collingwood and Carlton were to play in that years Grand Final.

There wording has shifted from Gold Club support being guaranteed a ticket to having first access at a ticket.

I’m gold and I’ve never received a survey, ever.

You brought time into it. Good or silver I am saying why should the benefits be diminished for a 20 year member for the benefit of a 15 year member? I am all for increasing golds if capacity is increased equally, but not if it dilutes what I signed up for.
Past fees would be relevant to many as they would have been paying on the basis of expecting a GF ticket when their team is in it and not necessarily attending otherwise.

The expectation of a ticket when their team of support is playing remains the same though - I haven’t seen any suggestion the expansion would jeopardise that.

I forgot to add

- no guest passes for big games/finals until members have had an opportunity to purchase tickets first!

How would we know? They refuse to release breakdown of club support for what reason??

I have an expectation when I get to Gold that I will be able to go to GFs as a neutral. That's one reason I signed up.
Given they already said a few years ago that Collingwood v Big Vic Club would mean some miss out, what do think an expanded Gold base will mean? I didn't receive the survey but I assume they aren't planning to increase the AFL Reserve capacity.

Nah they wouldn't increase AFL reserve capacity.. not a good look. They would however have some formula in mind..

AFL Reserve allocation = {Number of Gold Collingwood Members) + {Number of Gold 2nd highest club support) + Medallion Club + blah blah + 1000

So they would look at who is in the wait list and increase the number of gold members until the above formula still works out in a worst case scenario. Maybe 30000 --> 35000 would still meet the above
