AFL Silver Membership Waitlist Number Part 2

Nah they wouldn't increase AFL reserve capacity.. not a good look. They would however have some formula in mind..

AFL Reserve allocation = {Number of Gold Collingwood Members) + {Number of Gold 2nd highest club support) + Medallion Club + blah blah + 1000

So they would look at who is in the wait list and increase the number of gold members until the above formula still works out in a worst case scenario. Maybe 30000 --> 35000 would still meet the above
But thet already said a few years ago that some club of support Golds would miss out if it was Coll vs Carl (?) when both were doing well. If they increase Golds perhaps they should limit by Club of support, or better still, don't increase Gold, even though at 3500 I would probably benefit.

I have an expectation when I get to Gold that I will be able to go to GFs as a neutral.
And that figure has moved now. It use to be club of support members where guaranteed a tick and no more than 60% of AFL members tickets would go to club of support. None of these statements are part of the AFL membership Grand final clauses anymore.

2 big families sat next to us at the Carlton/North game and spoke nothing but Hindi for the entire time. Didn’t clap or cheer when either team kicked a goal.

Not fussed where you’re from or what language you choose to speak. However it’s clear once again that more non members are waltzing in.

If I intend to use the walk-up section and I wanna bring a friend or family along who isn’t a AFL member, why bother buying them a guest pass when they can just come over from the general admission side unchecked.

Might send em email.

Most Indian families speak Hindi with each other, doesn't mean that someone isn't an AFL member in them. Would be careful sending them an email with that one.

Sunday at Marvel was good. Walked up 20 mins before bounce and got a nice seat on L1 in the AFL members area. It was half empty too!

I don't mind Marvel when there is L1 seats available
Thats aisles 6-8 right? Not bad seats.

Its quite simple for what the members want. A few bays on level 1 at the MCG/Marvel for walkups unless its a blockbuster. All of M25, M26 and the back half of M27 behind the auskickers would be fine Imo

I wonder did they sit there the whole time or sneak in late. My aisle at Marvel on the weekend was only manned until 3 quarter time. That could be improved.
If the families were there the whole time it would be unusual for an AFL member to apparently be disinterested in the game. Mind you the English speakers in front of me on Sunday were Tigers supporters (I think) but spent more time getting drinks than watching. Understandable.

I don't think any competing gold members would miss out if it were a Carlton V Collingwood GF.
I reckon they sell 13,000 seats, and the two clubs combined have about 11,000 - 12,000.

How many gold members are they looking to expand to?

You numbers are good. The last time the AFL were kind enough to officially let us mere mortals know figures, back in 2014, Collingwood had about 25% of all AFL members and Carlton 19.5%. That includes silvers, most of whom would be Gold now. However since the AFL set expectations a few years ago that some would miss out, we can only conclude that they are even bigger ars*holes than we realised.

Excuse my nerdiness but here are some numbers I prepared earlier, of all Collingwood AFL members, including silver. Note the 3 year gap at the bottom of the table.

It does show that some Collingwood supporters do drop off (as for all clubs). The last lot to reach Gold would have joined in 2010 or 2011 I think. I was 2012 and 3500 odd to go. But there proportion didn't chnage massively in 10 years in these figures and at most there could be just over 12000 of them today.
EXCEPT
In 2010 there were 2487 absentee members and 5615 with no nominated club of support. I assume no nominated club of support is most under 7s and a few others who didn't get around to nominating or something. So they could well have a few thousand more. If only we were allowed to know.

The numbers got messed up in covid
Absentee members got invited back after covid and members who lapsed got invited back and jumped the queue

Purely anecdotal, going by how absolutely packed the AFL reserve is when they have games. I believe the numbers would be greater. They're in a prime period and they just don't drop off like other fans. Sure, a few casual pies might have dropped off the silver list, but I would think their retention rate is well above everyone else and only going to get worse as they get better.

As they hold on for longer, more fans of other clubs ditch the gold and are picked up by more Collingwood fans.

Works well when they are not in the GF. A nightmare when they are up and about

Just know from collingwood gold members that years ago they could buy 10 tickets at once , now they buy them in smaller numbers to guarantee seats at home and away

The stewards leave the aisles at 3/4 time every week

Those who were invited back after COVID were reportedly only a few years out, so they would have been on the list back in 2011. So my point still stands that the maximum number of Gold Collingwoods should be around 12000 plus whatever proportion of those 2010 absentees and no nominated club of support were Collingwood. Then I forgot we have some who change their nomination each year depending on ladder positions, but that can't be that many.
I agree Collingwood supporters would have a higher retention rate. Not just because they are consistently good but it is probably hard to get a GF ticket as an ordinary member.

A question please:

I'm heading to Essendon V Gold Coast at Marvel.

Can you swipe your membership card at the turnstile for GA or do you have to pre book a ticket and pay your $15?
For all other moderate (non Essendon home game) crowds at Marvel you can do the former.

Thanks.

Scan for GA.

I believe there's only been 1 or 2 fully ticketed matches at Marvel this year.

Locations wont be released until maybe Friday but I cant imagine it will be a big crowd.

Walkup AFL members would be level 1 Aisles 6-8 I think, otherwise level 3
Walkup GA (ie attending with someone that isnt an AFL member)... not sure you might be up on level 3

Thanks for the response guys.
I remember years ago that you couldn't scan in for Essendon home games with your AFL membership card at Marvel and had to have a pre booked ticket to get in. Maybe I'm imagining it.
