AFL Silver Membership Waitlist Number Part 2

That's the other problem! Then we might get all these games where the members are full but half empty and people turned away.
Also, the last 2 years have seen AFL Gold selling for the full 2 hours and no one miss out.

I'd like to see two Vic clubs not Pies. That would be a good test of how many miss out.

I would say an Ess vs Carl GF would see lots more tickets make their way to medallion clubbers, kinda like the silver club support scam the AFL pulled this year

How tickets were available by the end of the gold release and then magically sold out before silver could get a crack.

I.e. turning the leftovers into a $3000 ticket with a lunch
Oh right of course, I was just assuming another scam of some sort, because well, it wouldn't surprise anyone.
I remember as a silver non club I could have got a ticket to the 2015 Grand Final. I get it that Hawks supporters might have been sick of winning Premierships by then, but surely some silvers should have got a ticket this year.

If people don't see the value for money for a massive discount on a $27 GA ticket that gets you access to either of the stadiums if you go to enough games then I don't even think that these people should even get the priority access for GF tickets anyway.

Fairness should dictate that neutral GF tickets should go to the people who are passionate enough to go to lots of neutral football, not just those who have patience and money on a waiting list?

Well when you put it like that...then I am not so sure. The key being enough games as you say, but silver membership next year is $565. That's about 21 of your $27 tickets. I would say the vast majority would go to no more games than that. Not your problem I know. Of course there is finals, but there was only 1 final in Melbourne for weeks 1 and 2 this year and the same last year. Compared with a Richmond H&A next year at $345, you would want to be interested in a few neutral games and finals. Which is how it should be, but as much as I hate a lot of Melbourne clubs, I want to see some more finals next year please. I agree with your principle of fairness on GF, but it wouldn't work and the AFL don't care about fairness anyway.

Renewal emails just hit

End of 2024 waitlist number: 1044
End of 2025 waitlist number: 978

I don’t even have the words right now
Might be another year of low movement. A rush of absentees came back and right now they are over 30K gold members. They need to bring that down to 30K then let in Silvers

according to the T&C's, from 2025 absentee membership is only valid for 1 year.
So, prior to 2025, what was the rule? multiple years allowed??

Not only was it unlimited, they went to lapsed members and offered them to rejoin back as full members even though they had dropped off completely.

So Junior Silver has gone up from $190 to $215, which is more than a 10% increase. Would be interesting to see what Bronze renewal costs is for juniors as last year it was more than Silver and had way less privileges.

Well that's bullshit. The waitlist for my daughter on Silver is 26,000.
Yeah my kids have only just gone below 25,000 this year.
from aflma meeting with afl

not good reading

The number of Silver members that will be offered an upgrade to Gold members for 2026 is less than 300.

Approximately 1,000 Bronze members will be offered an upgrade to Silver membership for 2026. (Silver membership is capped at 25,000)

It was confirmed that the initial date of application for AFL membership is directly associated to the waiting list queue number for upgrade to Gold membership.

Currently the waiting list queue number is at a slow crawl and is only up to those applications for AFL membership received in early 2011

With collingwood applications even worse crawl coming
Would be good to get clarification on what this means - if there’s going to be a split in gold uptake waitlists based on club of support the AFL should have to be transparent about this (and would also be bullshit in that it flies in the face of what the AFL membership has been positioned to be for in the first place).

Edit: reading the minutes (thanks The Sultan ) it appears the comment relates more to a slow rate of progress through 2011 sign ups?

Hopefully it's short term pain. Absentees come back, realize their team is shit and say it's a waste. Then you end up having 3 k drop off soon
I am not sure what they were thinking. Were they just trying to maximise revenue by forcing people out of absentee or move people on? If it is the former I hope they lose more revenue than they gained by silvers and bronzes dropping off.
If it is the latter, well, I agree in principle with what they have done. Either you are a member or you are not, i.e. absentee for years on end is rubbish. But people do have genuine reasons to be absentee and the result is as expected. Some will drop off but probably more will stay on. When you have been paying $185 to be absent then you are planning a return.
But hopefully GG you are right and it picks up again in the next few years. The lack of explanation from the AFL is poor but completely as expected.

This could be a good move, but the AFL are not smart. They are when it comes to bleeding punters, so I am more inclined to believe this is a way to extort more cash.
