I'm back.

How would you describe supporters from other sides - If you had one phrase for every club.

PS: Please don't be personally offended by the folowing comments - especially you Magpie fans!!!!

Adelaide - A pack of whingers!
Bribane - Quietly confident - most in Victoria don't say much as they would much rather watch a team called Fitzroy than Brisbane.
Carlton - ignorant, pigheaded, smart arses and a bunch of Greeks and Italians.
*EDITED*
Collingwood - Basically, the Australian version of Carlton supporters!!!
Essendon - LOUD
Fremantle - ...... - Never Met One, wouldn't know.
Geelong - Expect the worst - and usually get it!
Hawthorn - Very Annoying
Melbourne - Polite and know the game well
Kangaroos - Generally easy to get along with, and know how to take success and not rub it in - all except Rooboy, that is!!!!!
Port Power - Feral
Richmond - Passionate
StKilda - similar to Geelong, expect the worse and usually get it. Worry a lot.
Sydney - Still learning about the game
West Coast - Too confident for their own good.
West bulldogs - The battlers team, honest and proud of their club.

I agree pretty much, but I don't think Melbourne supporters know as much about the game as you said. A typical Melbourne supporter can be heard yelling out: "Go number 12"

I agree Richmond are the most passionate.

Essendon are also very passionate and noisy. Enthusiastic...always can be seen wearing the merchandise, which is a good sign of enthusiasm.

Adelaide are loyal, and despite the fact we make fun of them, they are great supporters. They always turn up (win or lose) and they are prepared to travel interstate to support their team.

Carlton are arrogant an pig-headed as you said. They like to rub it in, but only after they have sown up victory.

Collingwood are one-eyed. They still think that they are the number-one club in the AFL, even though they are not. Very passionate.

St.Kilda, like you said are worriers. The supporters are great front-runners. When they are going well, they get about 10 times louder.

The others are pretty much spot on. I like what you said about Essendon and "NOISE". I've been to so many games where the Bomber army had gotten us over the line in the end. Our fans can sometimes be a 19th player.

Richmond have the loudest roar, but it is "usually" reserved for when they are in front, and their supporters are celebrating.

Is it just me, or can everyone see this topic getting over 100 responses.

Just a gut feeling I have. Every now and then, a topic comes along which seems to generate more response than the others. Given EVERY club is involved here, I can see this topic generating a lot of heat.

Good choice gocatsgo

Thanks Dan!

Sandie, who am I gonna get it from?

Maybe Collingwood or Adelaide supporters, it certainly won't be Carlton supporters - THERE AREN'T ANY HERE!

To be quite truthful, I'd expect a mouthful from Joffa, as he seems to have a vendetta against all Geelong supporters.

Well I could be pissed off in being told I'm too confident about my club but im not in the mood. We once had a reason to be confident though, just like bomber supporters do now. *sigh*

Sandie, Westy Boy?????

The Bulldogs supporters are generally battlers from the west of Melbourne and they are very proud of their club.

I don't see that as a put-down!

I've been doing some work at Channel Ten. I actually have to go up there for the next couple of days, but I was able to get off early today so I could come back to Geelong.

Hmmm, so I was right, it's only if Bombers say something allegedly politically incorrect they get attacked, just another excuse to vent their spleens aginst Bombers.
And people say Umpires are inconsistent.

Sandie,

What the hell does the club you support have to do with it??? Seriously, do you honestly believe I have these beliefs just b/c you barrack for Essendon?? Unlike yourself, i stayed well clear of stereotyping anyone. And why reply in a different thread?? Vent your reply in the "in your face" thread- if you actually do have any valid arguments against the post. Now i've managed to hijack two threads with this unecessary rambling on. Sorry everyone
smile.gif
. Just ignore my posts when i get onto this kind of subject.

I've only opened this thread now, so this is the first i've heard of your thoughts after my post. Now i presume greeks and italians was formerly wogs in gocatsgo's opening post (correct me if i'm wrong- and sandie, I'm talking about what calling someone a wog represents, not the letters W O G).

And no, i'm not happy- both with what it was before the change and what it is now (but don't worry about changing it again gocatsgo, i'll live). If i hadn't of known gocatsgo better, i would have taken the amendments more harshly. Read it- I could of taken it as if he was saying they are just a bunch of Greeks and Italians who as their usual 'selves are ignorant, pigheaded, smart arses, if I was really picky and easily offended (which most of you are probably saying i am now anyway
smile.gif
).

"Just a bunch of greeks and italians"- WHAT DIFFERENCE SHOULD ETHNICITY MAKE???? Just a bunch of them hey. You wouldn't say that about "australians" (i.e. just a bunch of Australians) would ya (and if you don't understand why i put australians in inverted commas...... i'm wasting my breath).

.... hang on.... i've just read the collingwood line- the australian version of Carlton???? So obviously carlton/"wogs" aren't Australian hey gocatsgo. U usually consider yourself "more" australian than "wogs" gocatsgo? Isn't that what you are saying???

And sandie, since when has wog been "ALLEGEDLY politically incorrect"- WTF?? when was the last time you heard a public figure/newsreader etc. say wog. Imagine Eddie McGuire said "oh carlton are just a bunch of wogs". Do u honestly think it wouldn't be considered politically incorrect?? He would get attacked in the media no matter what light/humour it was said in- ala newman incident last year- except his was more blatant. If you are a viewer of the panel, you will notice Jane Kennedy (the producer and has been involved in an "on show" position with working dogs other projects) has never made a return since she called Santo a wog on the show. Coincidence??

Boy did i use the wrong examples

OK- wog squad- self proclaimed- fair enough that he uses it- but what i was saying is what if he said "carlton are just a bunch of wogs"- or even if he had called Libba etc-"just a bunch of wogs" on a more public stage such as The Footy Show. It wouldn't go unnoticed- and would be deemed politically INcorrect.

And in regards to Jane Kennedy- i know she hasn't been overly involved "on camera"- but she was actually on 5 shows in the first year- not overly significant - but still quite coincidental that since the above mentioned incident- late 98/early 99, she hasn't been on ONCE since. In the guide, in the herald sun, the letters to the editor was filled with complaints (and replies to these complaints) about the incident for a few weeks. But I hear what you're saying, and it could be that she doesn't actually want to do it again. (but she's heaps better than kate Langbruek (sp?)

And next time you wanna destroy my points with relevant and logical rebuttals....... just don't ok

Sorry you have lost all credibility with me now, I have supported your views a lot & you know it, my post when I mentioned the word, had totally no malice, but you attacked me viciously, it is what I was getting at, no matter what anyone says, it is not objected to unless they support the Bombers.
Well go for it from now on if somenone comes out with an I'm going to argue with you because your a Bomber you will get this response. HA HA HA HA HA HA 2000 premiership.

If you SERIOUSLY believe that the team you support has ANYTHING WHATSOEVER to do with it Sandie, you are very mistaken. This is not football related (once again, sorry to everyone who is reading this). Had it have been a doggies supporter, the response would have been EXACTLY the same.

And Alf, I can't join this exclusive club..... just yet......
BUT if sandie doesn't get what i'm saying in this post, and tells me once again that the ONLY reason for me thinking that it is wrong for her
* to refer to her son-in-law as "the wog" and
* consider "wog" as politically correct
* etc etc
is due to her support of Essendon.......... then tell me when/where/what for the initiation. Cockebilly maybe?
smile.gif

Sandie,
I never said you were malicious with the word. I have no doubt u and gocatsgo didn't mean it to insult anyone. I'm just saying that I (and i am not alone here) find it insulting to be branded with a word which implies that someone is not (as) Australian and of a lower class. Again i will use this example- would you call anyone a "n1gger"?? I doubt it. If your son in law was afro-American, you wouldn't say "my son-in-law is a "n1gger", but felt free to say he was a wog. What is the difference b/w the words "n1gger" and "wog". For myself, nothing. But for others, for some unknown reason, wog is considered fine to define one group of immigrants, but n1gger is a definate no-go zone to describe another.

It's not u personally and i sincerly apologize for my "vicious" attacks, but i'm pissed off. I didn't stoop to bagging u personally b/c i understand it (wog) has (wrongly) become socially acceptable- I was just stating my feelings. What do u do when u r pissed off.

BTW sandie
Who was the team to destroy THE PERFECT season??? i forget
smile.gif

Westy Boy
OK I accept your explanation & I do understand your feelings on the matter. As to THAT game I had a $100 bet that we would go through undefeated, thanks Bullies I am now $100 poorer.

Nice topic Gcg (how did your soccer paper go by the way ?))

ADELAIDE

an emotional roller-coaster. they were burning to get into the comp 'to teach the vics a lesson' then they flopped, then they jagged 2 flags outta nowhere, then they flopped again. No wonder their fans come across as slightly neurotic and paranoid.

BRISBANE

Scars of 1996 have been slow to heal. Surprisingly passionate, given they are basically rugby fans. Prone to whinging.

CARLTON

Arrogant and dismissive of the opposition. Everybody else secretly envies them, surprising amounts of working class support.

COLLINGWOOD

Very proud, general football outlook is restricted by Black and White coloured blinkers.

ESSENDON

Very noisy, lots of youngsters, a bunch of very happy campers at the moment.

FREMANTLE

pretty feral at times, solid working class origins.

GEELONG

Relaxed happy go lucky country types, good humoured, easy going. Seem to be happy just to be in the competition, let alone winning anything.

HAWTHORN

Solid middle class supporters from deep in the heartland of suburban Melbourne, still having trouble adjusting to life post-80's dominance.

MELBOURNE

Footy is not as important to these guys as other supporter groups. Maybe they are abroad on business trips too often or perhaps the fact that the footy season coincides with the ski season has something to do with it ? The only supporters to vote their own club out of existence.

NORTH MELBOURNE

Tough, competitive types who won't lie down and won't take no for an answer. Few in number.

PORT ADELAIDE

Frontrunners, can't accept the fact that their SANFL success has not translated to the big league.

RICHMOND

Probably the most passionate - have a bad habit of bagging their own team all the time.

SAINT KILDA

Crazy eccentric types who are loud mouthed and colouful. Always seem to be on drugs of some description...

SYDNEY

Enthusiastic, much still to learn about the game. At least have something to cheer about these days.

WCE

mainstream Western Australians, parochial to a fault.

WESTERN BULLDOGS

Quintessential working class supporters. Very loyal, footy is a way of life to these people.

Sorry if I have upset - its only a bit of fun and I admit this is totally unscientific and completely suggestive.

Just because your paranoid doesn't mean everybody isn't out to get you.

I can't stay & chat. I'm late for my therapy session
