Re: AFL Team Manager Rules (updated October 07)

Not so important right now but what are the rules for veteran eligibility? I can't find them, sorry.
I currently don't have any eligible veterans and want to take any upcoming eligibility into consideration when I'm trading players in or out.
Simplified, to be on your list in season X, they have to be born in year X-30 or earlier and have been on your list since year X-5

i.e.
2009 - born 1979 - list since 2004
2010 - 1980 - 2005
2011 - 1981 - 2006
etc.

Re: AFL Team Manager Rules (updated October 07)

This rule where you can bid absolute minimum to keep any owned uncontracted player is complete garbage and will ruin the game.

The minimum you should be able to bid is the same amount as you have to contract a player if you trade for them. People will just get to keep guns for 107/130k and the 2 active bid rule with that means the market won't get to dictate the price.

Either the minimum bid has to change to the traded for price or the active bid rule abolished and replaced with a 2 active starter bid rule (ie you can only be the first to bid on a player 2 times at once, keeps the maximum number of players available to be bidded on at one time at 32).
The rule I brought in last night is that once you have 2 active bids on your own players you can't start any more. I think that'll do the job.

Re: AFL Team Manager Rules (updated October 07)

So if you start 2 bids and have current bids on those players, you can then bid on anyone else you didn't have the starter bid on?

You can match bids, not start them.

Your list:
Brown
Black
White
Green

Opposition bid on Black. You match it.
You bid on White.
You now cannot offer a contract to Green or Brown unless matching another bid.
Opposition bid on Black again.
You bid on Green
You now cannot offer a contract to Brown but you can match the Black bid.

Sounds confusing :confused::confused:

Re: AFL Team Manager Rules (updated October 07)

It's not that confusing peterss.

Your only allowed to have:

* 2 Active bids on opposition players
* 2 active bids on your own players (however you can match any offers from opposition clubs if they choose to bid on any of your other UC players).

Re: AFL Team Manager Rules (updated October 07)

It's quite simple really. Once you have a bid on two of your own players, you can only match bids on your own players and not start new bids on your own players.

Re: AFL Team Manager Rules (updated October 07)

Yeah that rule sounds good.

But what happens with all coaches who have gone to resign mass players of there own at once?

Re: AFL Team Manager Rules (updated October 07)

I think they get to sign all those because it was stated 'as of now' :thumbsu:

I think it's best to choose 2 of the uncontracted players from your list you started bidding on to have your bid stand as it was and the rest are treated as having no bids on them yet.

Then the rule slips in as if it was always there.

Re: AFL Team Manager Rules (updated October 07)

After the 'as of now' post I'll take the first two, ignore the rest. Before that I've just added an extra 3 days to the extras - that's updated in posts 2 and 3.

I want to decide on which ones first, as stated in the other thread

Re: AFL Team Manager Rules (updated October 07)

Yeah you might as well start the bidding for your own players again or let everyone pick two and that's it, so we can get on with it.

Re: AFL Team Manager Rules (updated October 07)

I reckon those who bidded on all there own players before the rule was introduced then they should stand and any after that should be under the new rule.

Thats a bit unfair, don't you think?

Re: 2008/09 Bidding/Trading/Father-Son

TBH, I was going to bid on Corey before you even gave him a contract. I was seeking clarification on whether I could bid on Dane Swan because Sydney bidded on him but bidded on more than 2 players. I was undecided on which to bid for. In the meantime you bidded on Corey, I then bid on Swan as he was the alternative to Corey, and then I found out I couldn't bid on Swan, so I did so on Corey.

Long, boring and confusing story short, I got to do a bid I would have done if the rule had been in place since the start.

I propose a new rule for next year.

Teams offer players new contracts before beginning of trade week. This bid is the opening bid for these players. The time limit does not begin untill an opposition team bids on the player. Once this happens normal bidding time limit and rules apply. In the event that a player does not recieve a bid from an opposition team before the end of the bidding period, the opening bid by the original owner re-signs the player.

This way it's more like real life as the players original club offers their deal first.
