Carlton Lions Press Release.
18th January 2004

The Carlton Lions welcome 8 new players to the club as a result of the second trade week. While we were disappointed with some of the trades made by the previous management, we believe that with a little luck with injury, the Carlton Lions will be very competitive in 2004

The Lions' new players are:

Paul Williams Had another outstanding season for Sydney in 2003 and was finally rewarded with his first All-Australian jumper since making his debut for Collingwood in 1991. Williams won the Swans’ best-and-fairest in 2001 and 2002 and was one of the reasons behind Sydney’s ascent up the ladder this year. After more than 250 AFL games, he was picked on the wing in the All-Australian team due to his non-stop run and ability to kick long into the forward line. Picked up 417 possessions from 23 matches and averaged 18 possessions a match. Also kicked 18 goals for the season.
Nunan's comments: Williams came to us via the three way trade with Collingwood and the Bears. We picked up Shattock and Pike as well as Notting, (who we on-traded for Fosdike), and lost Ryan Houlihan and Matthew Lappin. Matty Lappin will be missed, but on the whole we've replaced him with an All-Australian and two premiership players and a good young midfielder in Fosdike.

Aaron Shattock: Is a no-nonsense utility player who elevated himself from a top-line state league star to a premiership player in 2002. Injury struck him a cruel blow at just the wrong time of the 2003 season, missing all of Brisbane's final series and of course the chance to play in his second premiership. Played 19 matches in 2003 gathering 171 possessions (avg: 9) and kicking 5 goals.
Nunan's comments: A player that adds versatility to our line-up. A premiership player who is about to enter his prime and who could be very useful in our line-up for next season.

Martin Pike: Four time premiership player now a veteran. Fresh from three premierships with the Brisbane club, Pike unhappy with the pay he was offered was traded to Carlton in a deal that saw Matthew Lappin move to Brisbane. Missing only one match last year from a possible 25, Pike amassed 351 possessions (av: 14) and kicked 13 goals for the 2003 season.
Nunan's comments: We'd be looking for Martin to continue his 2003 form for this season. I coached him in 1996 at Fitzroy and he appears to be much more disciplined now, than he was then. We see him fitting in the side in a number of positions, such as half-back, wing or even centre-half forward where he kicked 4 goals against Carlton last season.

Nic Fosdike: A hard-running midfielder who was one of the notable 'improvers' after Paul Roos took over the coaching reins midway through 2002. He became more attacking, picking up 380 possessions in his 24 matches in 2003, averaging 16 possessions per match and kicking 9 goals.
Nunan's comments: Nic will be a welcome addition to the Carlton Lions midfield, if he continues his form from last year. We picked Nic up for Tim Notting and given that Notting only played 12 games last year and was overlooked for Brisbane's final series, we feel this was a trade that may be very good for us.

Wayne Campbell: Tireless performer who battled gamely throughout 2002 despite his side's disastrous season, winning his fourth best and fairest award and was their leading possession winner with 513. Only played 9 matches in 2003 after being stricken with injury. However those 9 matches yeielded 184 possessions at 20 a match, as well as 5 goals.
Nunan's comments: Once again if Campbell can return to his 2002 form, he'll be a very handy pick-up for us, We've decided to utilise his leadership experience, by appointing him captain for 2004.

Matthew Rogers: Running player, who played 17 matches in 2003 for 198 possessions (avg: 11) and 3 goals.
Nunan's comments: We see Matthew as another handy back-up midfield option should injury strike.

Tim Fleming: Hard-at-it running player. Recruited to help bolster the Lions' midfield ranks and add greater depth. Turns 26 early in the season and will provide experience to a list boasting many youngsters, particularly in the midfield. Played 17 matches during the 2003 season, picking up 139 possessions (avg 8) and kicking 5 goals.
Nunan's comments: Provides another midfield option for us to back up Woewodin, Campbell, Akermanis, Murphy and Williams

Adam Houlihan: Half forward to has been recruited to minimuse the loss of Matthew Lappin. Played 16 matches in 2003 gathering 145 possessions (av: 9)and kicking 13 goals, 5 of which came against Port Adelaide in Round 21 last year.
Nunan's comments: Adam adds versatility to our strongest line-up. We could use him across half forward or equally as an attacking half back flanker. He's certainly a goal kicking opportunist who can kick on occasions multiple goals.

dude if u want to go thru 15 rounds and edit the names from lions to bears and carlton to carlton lions be my guest :p

Reynolds sums up the Bears Trading for 2003 / 2004

We would like to Formally Welcome these players to the Bears Footy club for the 2004 season
Luke Ablett
013505be.jpg

2003:

The Swans will be hoping two lengthy careers started in round 13 last year - Paul Roos as a senior coach and the latest Ablett to break into senior ranks. After an early-season Achilles problem, Ablett worked his way into contention with solid form for Port Melbourne and then played four games in a row before being demoted. Had only 19 disposals over the four matches, but experienced limited ground time and didn't look to be overawed

Targh Kennelly

013522bt.jpg

2003:
The apprenticeship is over; the next Irish success story is ready to unfold. Kennelly graduated from a bench player in the first half of 2002 to an important running link within the Swans' midfield and defensive set-up by year's end, and earned a National AFL Rising Star nomination after round 19. Capped his 20-game season by representing Ireland for the second year in a row in the International Rules Series.

Brett Kirk
013523bl.jpg

2003:
Hard-working midfielder who had a solid start to 2002, including being awarded two Brownlow votes in round two against Carlton, was out of favour in the middle part of the year, but fought back well and enjoyed a strong finish in the improving Swans' line-up. Was the side's leading tackler (79) and his first senior appearance in 2003 will be his 50th at AFL level.

Shane Crawford
013314bd.jpg

2003:
Crawford continued to prove in 2003 why he is one of the AFL’s premier players, finishing just one vote behind joint winners of the Brownlow Medal – Nathan Buckley, Adam Goodes and Mark Ricciuto. He was controversially overlooked for the All-Australian team with the honour of starting rover going to Fremantle’s Peter Bell.

Peter Everitt
013483bt.jpg

2003:
The former St Kilda cult hero joins the Hawks on a wave of expectation after publicly admitting he did not reach his potential as a player in 10 seasons at St Kilda. After winning his first club best and fairest award in 2001, the 2002 season was a disaster for Everitt. Seriously injured a knee when he fell at home and was sidelined for the first nine matches of the season. On return, he struggled to regain form, which wasn't helped by a suspension in just his second game back. Could alternate with Nathan Thompson and form one of the best ruckman/forward combinations in the AFL. Will be desperate to silence his critics

Joel Smith
013332bz.jpg

2003:
After last year was ruined by constant hamstring problems, Smith had an excellent 2003 season. Such was the value in defence, he was picked in the All-Australian team.

Nick Stone
014428bk.jpg

2003:
Selected late in the 1999 AFL National Draft by Collingwood, Stone broke through to play eight games in his first senior season. Stone is a tall centre-half back with excellent agility for his size.

Mathew Lappin
013152bn.jpg

2003:
Played all 22 games in 2003 and reinvented himself as a sweeper across the half back line. Played an important role for Carlton on and off the field in 2003, starting when he resisted a big offer from Richmond to join the Tigers saying he wanted to stick with his mates during the tough times. A proven forward who has added a defensive side to his game and finished fourth in the Best & Fairest. An important player for the 2004 season.

Brett Voss
013501bh.jpg

2003:

The former Lion pieced together a second consistent season, now having played 41 of a possible 44 games since becoming a Saint after just 35 in four seasons at Brisbane. His form was stronger in the first half of the year, but overall he has added hardness and more run to the defensive and midfield zones.

Xavier Clarke
036706bp.jpg

2003:

Laid the foundation in 2002 for a long and exciting career with 16 games as a winger or half-forward, where the glimpses of his sublime skills and scorching speed thrilled everyone at the Saints. Received a National AFL Rising Star nomination for his four goals against Melbourne in round seven. Expect him to be more prominent this season.

Stewart Dew
013415bw.jpg

2003:
One of the AFL's most penetrating kicks, he followed up a solid 2001 with a club-high 51 goals in 23 games, including 25 in the space of six matches mid-year and 10 in three finals to finish as one of the club's few shining lights in September. One of only a handful of players who can score from 60 metres, he is often brilliant but is still working on his consistency. Dew will pass his 100-game milestone this season and is expected to take another step towards eventually being recognised as one of the club's all-time greats.

Damien Hardwick
013420bq.jpg

2003:
Essendon's loss proved Port Adelaide's gain as the straight-ahead half-back toughened up the Power defence in 2002 with his renowned aggression and all-round hardness. Missed round one due to a suspension incurred in the Wizard Cup grand final and overcame late season knee problems which sidelined him for four weeks to get another crack at finals football.

Adam Kingsley
013422bk.jpg

2003:
A late-season hamstring problem, which sidelined the tough half-back for the last five home and away rounds, dramatically reduced his output in the finals as he struggled to produce his renowned run and rebounding ability. One of the Power's most reliable and prolific linkmen when in form, he was used only sparingly in the club's preliminary final loss to the Brisbane Lions. Passed 100 games last season and will be keen to re-establish himself as one of the club's top players after finishing outside the top 10 in the best and fairest for the third successive season.

Mathew Primus
013430bd.jpg

2003:
Confirmed his status as the AFL's No. 1 ruckman and one of the great leaders by winning his first best and fairest and being named vice-captain of the All-Australian side. While his ruck dominance continues to be a pivotal aspect of his side's success, Primus added goalkicking to his repertoire in 2002, booting 23 for the season. Had his colours lowered in the qualifying final but responded like the true champion he is with strong showings in the next two finals.

Anthoney Rocca
013198bv.jpg

2003:
The man-mountain centre half-forward became the player many had predicted when he debuted with Sydney in 1995. He took a series of sky-scraping marks, including one that finished in the top three in the Mark of the Year, and caused havoc from outside 50 with his rocket-launching right foot. Imposed himself on several matches in 2002, with his work in attack and in the ruck making him a match-winner. The club's leading mark-taker in 2002, with 126, he saved his best for the Grand Final when he kicked four goals. Ended the season with 38 majors to be the joint leading goalkicker alongside Chris Tarrant.

Andrew Williams
013569bw.jpg

2003:
The talented former South Belgrave junior returns to his home state after being traded by West Coast for Damien Adkins. He appeared in 40 of the Eagles' last 45 games and is a versatile player who could boost the Magpies' stocks in the midfield or as a goalkicking half-forward. Highly regarded for his character and playing ability by Mick Malthouse, who was his mentor for two seasons at the Eagles. Could surprise.

Jade Rawlings
031793bu.jpg

2003:
Tall athletic defender who really has emerged over the past three seasons with his sure marking and towering leap. Played every game, providing the club with plenty of drive out of defence or as another forward marking option when required. Like many of the Hawks' utilities, he can play in a number of positions and can match up on both small and tall players.

Brent harvey
013349bx.jpg

2003
Enjoyed a stellar 2003 and won his first best-and-fairest for the Kangaroos, the Syd Barker Medal. Harvey played 21 games for the Roos and polled 16 Brownlow Medal votes, the highest by any player at the club even though he was ineligible due to suspension. He polled 37 votes in the best-and-fairest count, three clear of runner-up Shannon Grant.

Joel Bowden
013442br.jpg

2003
Key linkman who is vital to the Tigers because he can play a number of roles, but is most comfortable as an attacking or run-with midfielder. Despite having an average season by his standards, he still gathered an impressive 505 disposals, including 334 kicks, played all 22 games and finished fourth in the best and fairest. Tends to win a lot of the ball in the back half, which sometimes reduces his influence on matches but is a player to watch for opposition sides.

David Rodan
014147be.jpg

2003
The term 'excitement machine' was coined with footballers like Rodan in mind. The dual Morrish Medallist rewarded the Tigers' faith at the 2001 National Draft by being the only first-year player in 2002 to play all 22 matches. His seemingly boundless energy, willingness to work hard, and terrific goal sense - he won the Goal of the Week nomination a phenomenal three times - ensured his near cult-hero status with the Tiger faithful. Stocky and fast, he is a ferocious tackler who makes things happen.

Tom Harley
013284bd.jpg

2003
Has played 76 consecutive games for the Cats, arguably producing his most productive season to date in 2002. Was a key player in defence, but became more attacking, even being thrown forward in an effort to unsettle the opposition. Rarely plays a poor game and such is his development he was even assigned the task of tagging Lions captain Michael Voss within the midfield in round 21. Finished fifth in the club's best and fairest.

Scott Stevens
013535bj.JPG

2003
The only deal the Crows and Sydney were involved in during the trading period was the move of the 22-year-old key forward to AAMI Stadium after four seasons on the Swans’ senior list – the past two as either a senior player or on the fringe. Played seven of the first 10 games in 2003, but managed only four thereafter. Twice kicked two goals in a game and coach Paul Roos admitted he was unlucky to be dropped for the preliminary final against the Brisbane Lions after a competitive effort in the qualifying final win over Port Adelaide.

Brock Mclean
288508at.jpg

Medium, inside midfielder who is strong player at the contest. Great leader who is prepared to bring other players into the game. Can go forward and kick goals and has great awareness. AIS-AFL Academy and won All-Australian U/18 honours in 2003. Represented Vic Metro this year. Was in the top 10% for the 3km time trial at the National Draft camp. Won best on ground honours in the TAC Cup Grand Final this year. From Aberfeldie FC. Year 12 student at Essendon Keilor College.

Troy Chaplin
288497bf.jpg

Tall defender/forward with endurance and versatility. Is composed under pressure and reads the play well. Ron Barassi Medallist for player of the series when Australian played Ireland at U17 level in 2003. All-Australian U/18 in 2003. From Maryborough FC. Year 12 student at Maryborough Senior Secondary College.

Luke Peel
288516bz.jpg

Medium, inside defender - balanced mover with clean hands. Has good ball winning ability, and is capable of running lines and taking a strong mark. AIS-AFL Academy member in 2003. Was in the top 10% for the shuttle run at the 2003 National Draft camp. From Brighton FC. Year 11 student at Brighton Grammer.

Mathew Spencer
288967bw.jpg

Spencer has an outstanding physique for the game, possessing great strength and stamina for a player of his size. He was the captain of the Western Australian side in the National AFL under 18 championships this year and is a genuine leader. A fine overhead mark and a natural competitor, Spencer won the Jack Clarke Medal for the best and fairest player in the WAFL Colts this year.

Matt Ball
he is the brother of luke, has lots of potencial

Doug Scott
son of don, he is a muture age selection should come good soon

David Johnson
013677bs.jpg

2003:
The brother of Essendon's Mark had done everything right during the pre-season to earn a 2002 round one debut against the Bombers, the club where he had spent two seasons on the rookie list. Sadly though, he badly injured an ankle and missed the next 10 weeks. Was unable to work his way back into the seniors, but deserves another crack.

Wrennyboy sums up the swans trading for 2003/ 2004

We would like to Formally Welcome these players to the Swans Footy club for the 2004 season

Matthew Bishop
013406ap.jpg

The decision to recruit Bishop from Melbourne at the end of 1999 has proved astute as he has developed into an ultra-versatile defender capable of minding tall and small opponents due to his height and athleticism. Played all 25 games last year and his presence ensured the Power had flexibility in the back half. Hauled in 118 marks and his emergence was a key to the club's success. Being Moulded into a Key CHB position for the swannies.

Warren Treadrea
013435as.jpg

Tredrea has been named as the All-Australian centre-half-forward for the third successive season. He was Port Adelaide’s leading goalkicker in 2003, snaring 58 majors. Despite being ill in the lead-in to the Power’s semi-final against Essendon at AAMI Stadium, Tredrea played and proved to be the match-winner as Port comfortably beat the Bombers. His best individual goal hauls were seven-goal efforts in round nine against Essendon and in round 11 against Fremantle. Will be a gun pickup for the swans and he will play at CHF.

Jarrad Schofield
013431ar.jpg

Noted ball-carrier whose preparation for the finals was hindered by a broken foot suffered in round 16, which forced him to miss five matches. Although he didn't have the same impact on his return, his form leading up to the injury was a key reason for the club's success and to that point, he had amassed 23 or more disposals on seven occasions. A great finisher, particularly on the run, he also contributed 16 goals in his 20 appearances. Will find himself established in the midfield alongside McLeod,Licuria and McVeigh. Handy Pickup for swans.

Dean Brogan
013407ar.jpg

This 199-centimetre ruckman found it almost impossible to force his way into a top side that was superbly served in the big man department by Matthew Primus and Barnaby French. Managed just one senior appearance, in round 22, when promoted for the top-of-the-table clash with the Brisbane Lions. Dropped for the finals, though was an emergency for the qualifying final. Will be given the all important #1 Ruck Duties at the swans.

Aaron Fiora
013449bi.jpg

Demonstrated in the second half of last season that he was beginning to feel more comfortable at AFL level, displaying a willingness to back his pace out of defence and create play further afield. Played 19 matches in 2002 and showed he is a penetrating left-foot kick and a competent sweeper across half-back where his anticipation is a feature. Must develop his light frame, as he is occasionally pushed off the ball too easily, but should become a genuine class act in years to come. Being Developed into a Forward at Sydney

Ray Hall
013451bx.jpg

Athletic tall who was asked to fill a variety of roles in the absence of key position players and performed manfully. Consolidated on a promising 2001 by playing 20 games and showing his ability at both ends of the ground. Often given a running role on opposing ruckmen. Will be good For the swans.

Brent Hartigan
289386by.jpg

PSD Pickup. Will wait and see. Plays off HBF.

Shane Morrison
013125bg.jpg

Tall defender who is ready to step up to AFL football this year after two seasons with the reserves. Improved markedly in the second half of 2001 when he was a key figure in the Lions' AFLQ premiership. Son of former South Melbourne and Queensland ace Peter Morrison, he joined the Lions under the father/son rule at the 1999 AFL National Draft. Recruited by sydney because of his bulk and size.

Andrew McLeod
013087bu.jpg

His 2003 started with a bang with another best afield performance in a Grand Final – the star midfielder being awarded the Michael Tuck Medal in the Wizard Cup premiership triumph. His output was greater in the first half of the year than the second, with his role changing somewhat in the closing stages of the season. Still finished with 499 disposals (second at the club) at an average of almost 21 per game, and kicked 29 goals. Third in the best and fairest and another top 10 Brownlow Medal finish (18 votes) added further lustre to his year, and this season will bring up his 200th game. He was recognised for his tremendous efforts over his career with Life Membership to the Crows in December 2003.

Blake Caracella
013209bd.jpg

Still finding his feet at his new club, he played all pre-season games with his best against St Kilda at Coorparoo with 22 possessions. Was used off the bench against Essendon where he finished strongly, but missed the Round 2 game against Port with foot and hip problems. Collected 14 possessions in the midfield against the Roos in Round 3.

Chris Johnson
013114by.jpg

Looked after himself during the break over October-November 2002 and did plenty of hard work over summer. Provided his usual dash from defence against Essendon in Round 1 and was quieter but no less effective against Port the following week. Collected a staggering 31 possessions in a back pocket against the Roos in Round 3 and did some brilliant things.

Tim Notting
013126bq.jpg

Slowed by knee soreness again through the first half of the summer, he returned midway through the pre-season series and was explosive off the bench in the opening two premiership games of the season. Showed great dash against Essendon in Round 1 and gave his side some spark in the dour struggle against Port. Did some handy things against the Roos in Round 3.

Digby Morrel
013709bm.jpg

High-marking, but enigmatic forward who booted 47 goals in 40 games for the Kangaroos between 2001 and 2003. Was traded to Sydney in the 2004 trading period he will provide a regular target cloose to goal for the revamped Sydney midfield. The Swans should offer much more opportunities to play regular senior footy.

Heath Scotland
013199bc.jpg

Resurrected his career at Collingwood in 2002 just when his future looked in doubt. After being an emergency for six consecutive matches, Scotland played 19 games and consolidated himself to become a consistent member of the midfield. Showed he was capable of accumulating many disposals. Was given the task of running with Brisbane Lions skipper Michael Voss in the last term of the 2002 Grand Final - an experience that should prove valuable in seasons to come. Traded to Sydney during the 2004 trading period.

David Clarke
014094bg.jpg

Tough and fast, Clarke fell out of favour at Carlton in 2003 after an injury-interrupted pre-season. Was picked up by the swans in the 2003 Pre Season Draft. If he can enter 2004 with a solid fitness base to his name, could emerge as a prime mover for the Swans. Certainly has plenty to prove.

Brenden Fevola
013142by.jpg

The revelation of the Carlton Football Club in 2003 when he made the most of what most considered would be his final chance in AFL. His talent has never been doubted with any player able to kick 12 goals in a pre-season game having obvious talent (achieved by Brendan on New Years Eve 1999 against Collingwood). Fevola played all 22 games in 2003, led Carlton's goalkicking with 63 goals and was third in the Best & Fairest behind Andrew McKay and Anthony Koutoufides. The opportunity is there for him to consolidate in 2004 at the swans.

Rhyce Shaw
013200bf.jpg

Hasn't seen senior action since the opening round of 2001 and is at the crossroads. The son of former Magpie captain Ray Shaw played two games in the Wizard Cup but that was his highlight of 2002. Has managed only four games in three seasons - a disappointing return given the promise of his debut year. Will be given a chance off Half Back with the swans.

James Clement
013175bj.jpg

A revelation in his two seasons at McHale Stadium, transforming from a middle-range player into one of the AFL's most accomplished defenders, narrowly missing All-Australian selection. Last season, only three players in the competition rebounded the ball more from the defensive 50. Third in the best and fairest, the Magpies' equal best player in the finals and represented Australia in the International Rules Series in Ireland. Ultra-versatile, he can play on tall and small players with minimal fuss and sets up play with his precision kicking and astute decision-making. Gun Player that the swans have recruited

Stephen McKee
013190bx.jpg

After a sluggish start to 2002, McKee became one of the AFL's most improved players. His ruckwork proved an essential ingredient to the club's success, allowing Anthony Rocca and Josh Fraser to play more dangerous roles in attack. A solid worker around the ground, he often created the loose man and used his neat left foot to advantage. Beat All-Australian ruckman Matthew Primus in the qualifying final. Will be backup Ruckman for swans.

Paul Licuria
013187bm.jpg

Those who doubted Licuria's worthiness for the Copeland Trophy in 2001 would now have to acknowledge his status as a bona fide elite midfielder after a wonderful season. One of the fittest and gutsiest players in the competition, he led the Magpies in overall disposals, handballs, hard ball gets and handballs received and developed from being a run-with player into an attacking runner. His 40-disposal effort in the qualifying final triumph over Port Adelaide will be spoken about for years. Will be given plenty of oppurtunity in swans midfield.

Mark McVeigh
013227at.jpg

His unfortunate part in the round six clash with James Hird rocked his confidence, and despite playing all 24 games his output was down on what his talents suggest he is capable of producing. Form declined until he was given a run in the VFL in the split round to sharpen him up. Performed a number of run-with roles, but seemed to excel when given the chance to play his own game. Given the chance to prove himself on the swans wing.

Matthew Scarlett
014104bq.jpg

Was rewarded for an outstanding season at full-back with All-Australian selection and by winning Geelong’s best-and-fairest award – the ‘Carji’ Greeves Medal – for the first time. Scarlett was unlucky to miss All-Australian selection in 2002 but was rewarded with a trip to Ireland to represent Australia at International Rules level. He will again represent Australia against the Irish this year. With the Cats winning just seven games in 2003, Scarlett was a vital component of the Geelong defence. Now he finds himself at the swans.

Matthew McCarthy
013681bh.jpg

Emerging key position prospect who showed enough in the VFL to suggest he will push up as a forward option in 2003 after several impressive performances in front of goal. Booted a few bags of four plus one of five. Was also used with effect in the ruck and perhaps was unlucky not to have played a senior game. Took a screamer against west coast last year that really made his worth. Will be vital in the swans forward line this year

Stephen Johnson
013678bs.jpg

Another youngster who burst on to the scene for the Cats in 2002 and looks to be a real find with his impressive work in attack. Strong overhead, he booted 16 goals in his 12 games - including standout four-goal efforts against Collingwood and St Kilda in rounds 15 and 19 - and proved a viable target in attack. Played in the VFL premiership side and looks set to make his mark. Goalsneak for the swans this year.

Lance Picione
031792be.jpg

Repaid the faith shown in him by the club by demonstrating good ball-winning skills and a tough approach to his general play. Played 11 times to bring his career tally to 40. Despite being KO by Jess Sinclair in round 20 he will be a vital backup for injuries.

Nathan Lonie
013325bn.jpg

A penetrating left-foot kick who continues to impress. The identical twin of Collingwood's Ryan, Nathan has plenty of pace and confidence and is willing to back himself with big runs from half-back. Played 13 games and appears ready to cement himself as an automatic selection. Is being developed into a wingman at sydney and are excited to have him.

Kris Barlow
013307bw.jpg

A tough player who enjoys kicking goals, he will be followed his 23-goal return from 2001 with 20 from 19 games in 2002. Once his confidence rose so too did his game and despite not making his debut until 1999, at the age of 25, he has played 75 AFL games. A key player in the Hawks' attacking mix, Barlow is tough to match up on because he is often too strong for smaller, quicker players and too slick for large, immobile defenders. Will be handy as he is a Utility for the swans.

Peter Street
013301bu.jpg

The longtime no.2 ruckman at Geelong behind Steven King, he now assumes the same mantle at the Swans behind Dean Brogan. Showed glimpes in limited opportunities at the Cattery but with Brogan liking to push forward at times, more senior footy beckons.
