Fitzroy Football Club Press Release

Jan. 6th 2004

The Fitzroy Football Club is pleased to announce the merger of the Carlton Football Club and the Fitzroy Football CLub to form a new club the "Carlton-Fitzroy Football Club" trading as the 'Carlton Lions'.

New Carlton Lions President Dyson Hore-Lacy is finally pleased to have achieved a suitable merger with a Melbourne-based club and for the club to have finally returned to Princes Park, it's home ground from 1986 - 1993.

"We never gave up the fight" he says. "Despite our club operations being merged with the Brisbane Bears at the end of 1997, the club still existed independently in Melbourne with a couple of thousand members." Now we are extremely pleased to rescue Carlton and provide a place where Roys and Blues supporters can bond with their club once again."

The new club committee also unveiled the colours and jumper of the new club.

The jumper is a striking combination of maroon, navy blue and gold with a navy blue body, light maroon yoke and a light gold CFC logo.

The new committee asked the AFL world to be patient as they examined and analysed their existing list. New Carlton Lions coach Mick Nunan said he was quite appalled at some of the trading and drafting decisions that had been made, but he would do the best he could with the personnel he had at his disposal.

Nunan also stated that he would announce an on-field leadership team as soon as possible.

The Carlton Lions have called upon the Brisbane Football Club to return all Fitzroy memorabilia to the club where it will housed at newly renamed Princes Park.

Dyson Hore-Lacy urged all old Fitzroy supporters to get behind the new club.

Further announcements will be made at an appropriate time.

The Birsbane Lions are proud to announce the following changes for 2004:

2: They Will Give back ALL Fitzroy memorablia (not that there ismuch) BUT we will keep all memorablia won when named BRISBANE LIONS
3: we ask for a 1million dollar pay out by carlton as they have signed multi million dollar deal contracts using the lions name.
4: This is our new club song:

1st Verse
If you are a Queenslander then sing along with me
We are the Bears on the road to victory
All for one and one for all
We'll answer to the call
We're the greatest team of all

2nd Verse
We're the fearless Brisbane Bears
From the mighty northern state
Our pride and guts and character are gonna make us great
Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth will know their fate
When the Bears run out and roar

Chorus
Brisbane Bears will live forever
We will always stick together
The Gabba is the place where people always come to see
The greatest team of all

3rd Verse
The whistle blows the ball is bounced
The crowd all give a yell
And we will do our very best until the final bell
And when the game is over
We'll be closer to the flag
We're the greatest team of all

Chorus
Brisbane Bears will live forever
We will always stick together
The Gabba is the place where people always come to see
The greatest team of all.

The Adelaide Football Club wouldn't mind having a second trade period..Gary said he feels for Carlton after seeing there side on paper an i don't think the coach before knew how to struck a good deal just got to take a look at his CHF (Ricky Mott) plus now that they no how the scoring will be working they would like to make a couple of changes to there side....so be like Adelaide an VOTE...YES

Very Well Spoken there by Gary O'Hanlon Adelaide Football Clubs (CEO)

Carlton Lions Football Club Press Release

6th Jan 2004

The Carlton Lions are pleased to unveil their new home guernsey. Incorporating the maroon of the old Fitzroy, plus the navy blue of the Carlton, the jumper represents fairly both the parent clubs of the new entity. The Carlton Football Club logo worn so proudly by the Carlton Football Club of course remains, but has been changed to the gold colour sported by Fitzroy's famous FFC logo for over thirty years.

The Carlton Lions welcome the decision by the Brisbane Bears to return all Fitzroy memorabilia to the club. It shall proudly adorn the walls of the former 'Carlton Social Club' at Princes Park. The Social Club now of course has been aptly re-named the "Lions Den"

The Carlton Lions also refuse the million dollar pay out demanded by the Brisbane Bears. The Carlton Lions consider that the worth of Fitzroy members signed to the club as members over the last seven years is worth close to $3 million. The Carlton Lions will not be seeking the return of that money from the brisbane Bears but neither will they be reimbursing the Brisbane Bears.

Carlton Lions coach Mick Nunan has been examining the Carlton Lions list and has joined the calls for a second drafting period or at least drafting concessions to address considerable concerns with the playing list. He condemned the former coaching panel who engaged in such trades as Pick#15 for Shane Wakelin and Trent Sporn for Pick#86. "What makes it more incredible", he said "is that they then passed on the 85th pick, effectively giving Trent Sporn away for nothing!"

OK ppl ive decided todo another trade week dueto the**** list carlton have ;) the way it looks like going in next tuesday to the tuesday after :D u guyz will need to resubmit team lists unfortunatly.

also later 2nite im going to announce the scoring system for the 2004 premiership season.

........................................................................................................

The Bears are angry at Carltons decision but will et it be.it just shows the lack of freindlyness from them. Reynolds also stated that the supporters from fitzroy were great to the bears. he also announced that 3/4 of the old fitzro supports will continue to sponser the Bears in 2004.

According to my list of Carlton players and taking into account all trades and rookie lists, I have 45 players on my list (not including the three rookies).

Take out Brett Ratten, Mick Martyn and Glenn Manton and that reduces to 42. Now from what I can gather that rules are 38 player and two veterans (if they were born in 1974 or before).

There appear to have been no Carlton players delisted in the official delisting list including Ratten, Martyn and Manton.

Can I suggest that for Carlton:

1) Carlton delists a number of players and announces their delistings.
2) Carlton drafts a number of players from the Free Agents not picked up in the National, Pre-Season or Rookie Drafts. Tjat's so no other player will be disadvantaged.
3) Carlton names two veterans from suitably qualified players.
4) Carlton names another three rookies from the same pool of untaken players (the ones taken by the previous owner are awful!!!).
5) Carlton engages in trades in the new trade period.
