There are some pretty tall AFL players no doubt. But there are some pretty short and light players also. Unlike the other major contact code AFL has many players under 85kg (many also under 80kg) that have played more than 1 AFL game.

In the past 5 years how many smaller stature players have played AFL footy?

Jake Neade. 170cm, 67kg

Brent Harvey has done alright for a bloke that stands 167cm. Currently weighs in at 75kg but would have been around 62kg when drafted.

The AFL's bullshit rules means it's no longer a game for all sizes. The new interchange and ruck rules will result in less and less tall players and the real giants that everyone loves will become extinct

Mate. Clubs determination to find the tallest players will ensure they stay in the game. "If you are short, you have two years to prove you can make it in the AFL. If you are tall, you have 10 years to prove you cant.."

Talls will still be considered valuable but there will be less positions for them on the ground. I.e. a lot of teams will go from having 3 tall forwards to just 1 or 2 (which will also see less tall defenders) and the rucking set up will also be downsized.

I also don't agree with interchange. Its the reason I became disenchanted with NRL. At least AFL has positions for smaller skilful players. There will always be a prejudice towards height and size, but if someones skill gets them there, I think that is good for the game, for fans, and grass roots, as kids know that if they are good enough, they are big enough.

Didn't realise he was that short! I'm 176cms and consider myself short but he's tiny
He is, and to think Libba Snr. was only 163cm.

Some of these bloke must be pretty light also. At that height, and the amount of running they do, not many of the players listed above would be over 75kg!! You don't get elite NRL u16s weighing that light!

AFL is still a game for everyone.

'Fat' people can't really play at the top level. There used to be a few who were a bit overweight and you get some big key forwards in smaller leagues but they're not at the the top level.

I do love that an aspiring young footballer in our world doesn't have to have his dreams crushed by genetics like in other sports.

be careful of the listing of player's heights though.

Depending on what you read Fevola was anywhere between 188-191cms. Often changing from season-to season, even as an adult who had no growth left in him.
