AFL. The game for all sizes. AFL's smallest players.

I have very distinct memories of a certain fat prick performing very well in the 2008 GF.

Yeah that's why I included a photo of him. But they're a rarity these days. In fact, is there anyone currently on an AFL list who could be classed as fat?

A fat person can generally become thin so that doesn't exclude them from playing AFL, a short person can't become tall.

Very true. We are still the game for all sizes. But not all shapes. As juniors yes, but to play at the top level you have to bulk up and reduce skinfolds or you won't make it.

'Fat' people can't really play at the top level. There used to be a few who were a bit overweight and you get some big key forwards in smaller leagues but they're not at the the top level.

.

I bought Sheeds book the other day. Page 67 has this observation;

Over many years of playing and coaching, I have heard a lot of remarks about players, and ive seen judgements made based solely on the cover of the book, not whats inside it _ " Too small, too slow, too fat." Theres a category to work with. I the back of my recruiting book, ive got a list of bloke who were to fat. It reads like this:

Tony Plugger Lockett: 1360 goals
Jason Piggy Dunstall: 1254 goals.
Doug Fat cat Wade: 1057 goals

All I know is fat people kick goals, so when you take a common-sense approach, a blend of all the things you have learned, rather than just basing your decisions on crude measurements, its amazing what can be achieved..

Kevin Sheedy.

Stand your ground

A young player's dreams may not be crushed by genetics but they can be crushed by greedy old men.

You continually sprout this, but whenever asked to provide specifics or the detail you fail to deliver every single time. This passive aggressive crap won't change a thing unless you have the guts to come out and state what happened.

Michael Hurley is muscular but at the same time a bit pudgy.

Jake Stringer has leaned down quite a bit was was getting up there last year.

Brent Harvey has done alright for a bloke that stands 167cm. Currently weighs in at 75kg but would have been around 62kg when drafted.

Yeah, close the thread. Boomer. Then all the others.

be careful of the listing of player's heights though.

Depending on what you read Fevola was anywhere between 188-191cms. Often changing from season-to season, even as an adult who had no growth left in him.

Never have truer words been spoken.

Average height of an Australian male in 175.6cm. You basically have to be above average height to get a chance. The all shapes and sizes stuff is bs.

I'd say that average would rise considerably if it were limited to Australian males aged between 18-35.

Phil Matera was 171cm (?) and managed to go alright.

Ballantyne, Milne, & Thomas, the 3 most punchable faces in the game, what's their listed heights?

Milne 1.76 Thomas 1.80 Balyntine 1.74

The AFL's bullshit rules means it's no longer a game for all sizes. The new interchange and ruck rules will result in less and less tall players and the real giants that everyone loves will become extinct

The AFL rules against charging with your head puts shorter players at a disadvantage. Some free kicks will be given away for just being short, taller players already have a advantage in marking contests now in contested situations thats bullshit

That's more about being fit than anything, I mean if you were fat and could do a 16 beep test, a 2.8 sec 20m and had 90cm vertical leap, I'm sure you would get drafted but the facts of life are you simple can't do that if you're overweight.
