The worst case scenario is that Essendon get kicked out the comp for 2 years. If they have enough players suspended that they can't even field a team the AFL might not even have a choice.
If that happens, get a team of retired all-stars to fill up the ninth game for the tv deals.

yeah nah. It appears quite likely that the "waivers" provide legal exoneration for the players.

Surely even if they are cleared of drug use, the AFL will bend them over for bringing the game into disrepute....?

Essendon has absolutely smeared the league, employing guys with links to organised crime and drug traffickers, either way, they can't get away with what they've brought on the league......

sounds like the forms that everyone was frothing about would be enough to save the players from any blame.

Interesting about the ramifications for the club. Especially if it was from a rogue operative, but operating under the auspices of the club. Hmmm.

As i said earlier in thread, The Dream Team, or at least parts of, will go down in history alongside Jack Elliott and Wally Waldron.

Egotistical shortcut seekers who wreak havoc.

Yes all the problems of corruption in Sport are in other codes and sports administration

The AFL and Aussie Rules in general has always been the most corrupt sport in Australia.

How many people know that a VFL grand final was matched fixed over 100 years ago by the players of one team? The whole club was suspended.

How many people know that an Aboriginal player for a VFL club was never rubbed down by the trainers because his skin was black?

The AFL is also in debt and has been firing shots at other codes for decades.

Funny how Karma works hey folks?

The typical response will be for the AFL to find a scapegoat and give Essendon a slap on the wrist.

We mustn't have the ANZAC day game compromised - imagine all the loss in profits?

Its a fu*king disgrace
As long as Collingwood were there, it wouldnt matter what Melbourne team they were playing, they'd still get a full MCG crowd

Don't be so sure and accepting. There are waivers like the ones you sign when you go to extreme sports places that are meaningless in certain and often many circumstances relating to injury. For example just because they have signed a waiver doesn't mean that they have the automatic and infinate protection from the law if they have done something wrong. See Shane Warne.

If that's the line they want to take, then they won't have a club to play with, because the club would get kicked out of the comp. Otherwise, it's just a "yeah, sign this, that way we can put whatever we want into your body, and she'll be sweet". Sorry, but that just doesn't cut it.

Incorrect. It's been repeatably said that players are responsible for themselves no matter what. If they take illicit/prohibited substances a waiver won't save them. Ignorance is not a defence.

Jebus Lance, you're working your arse off putting out spotfires. What's that, 20 posts in 5 minutes?

The club needs to put you on retainer. ;)
He loves his club. Whats the excuse for upthegut and other posters on this thread who are posting 1 post a minute? Sad really.

Doesn't look good right now. But, I'll be waiting until we get solid facts before I start judging. Either way I feel for the supporters as it's not a fun time when you're club is being accused from every angle.

I'm confident to the point of dead certain that the players didn't know.

I'm also confident that Hird and Robson would have been aware of injections/supplements but also would have thought they were legal (and we still have no idea as the footy public whether they are or aren't).

Evans probably wouldn't know what the sports science division does.

Who in the hell says we have nothing to worry about? I'm hopeful, but I'm still worried.

Even if we are squeaky clean there are still bad practices at the club that need to be addressed. No way Essendon comes out of this without taking some injury, even if illegal drugs are a non-issue.
I'd almost bet my house on this - IF IF IF something dodgy was being done, IMO they would have been all in the dark.

Reading the old articles from the NRL days, Danks comes off as a guy who thinks of himself as some kind of guru in the industry, and apparently was famous for keeping his formulations and treatments confidential. Wouldn't surprise me if he secretly crossed a few lines in order to get the results he thinks his reputation deserves.
