The Press Conference in simple terminology:

Picture it like when the cops bust a drug shipment and they get on the news and say "see, all you crims out there , we're gonna catch you all." well they won't and everyone knows that.

But that doesn't mean that the poor bastard they DID catch isn't FORKED.

Essendon is where the buck has stopped when Dank was targeted.

Institutionalised team doping.

FORKED.
I think there's a few more forks coming for other people though.

Better pray like heck that Carlton aren't implicated!

It's not always about winning though. You could fix the game by missing a set shot after putting a bet on for the opposition to win by a certain amount. It would be tough to do, but I'm sure it could happen.
its even more subtle than that infact.. its not about fixing a game, or even spot betting on an event (first goal etc).. its about deliberately moving the odds during a game so that hte bookies can hedge their bets faster than the punters can place them.... thats how it works in Cricket... its the bookies fixing odds, not punters fixing outcomes. Theres a great book on gambling in cricket about it. Fundamentally I agree, its impossible to fix a game of Australian Football, but not impossible to influence the (live) odds.

Well until another club is named as in the spotlight, Essendon are what it's about, but that's likely to change.

Could be everyone bar Richmond is implicated, in which Richmond will finally play finals (against themselves) and win a premiership (after several draws and subsequent replays)
No, I would not expect Gold Coast to be implicated nor GWS (as only just started up). Therefore Richmond will either miss out on the GF altogether or will play Gold Coast in the granny and lose.

The report all but confirms the EFC was involved in a systematic plan to use illicit substances. As to who took part in and who from within the club knew will come out in the wash

Rats and sinking ships will take care of that

If it is widespread within the league then offer an amnesty period for all club players so clubs and lists are not adversely affected

There will be some others across codes and maybe AFL, but not team wide like Essendon.

They are in a world of hurt right now.

They employed Dank. Target A.

VicPol just confirmed that the ACC report has named names and clubs. More detailed than the publicly tabled report.

Particularly peptides.

So this is all going to take months to sort through all the facts... Theres no way it will be finished before season starts.

If they do decide to ban people 1/2 way through this season (instant bans isn't it?) how will that work?

*IF* more than 2-3 clubs do lose players for years (say 8-10 players) the competitions - NRL/AFL/ARU/Worldjoke etc could turn out to be a farce..

They are not about to let drug cheats get away with it and make Essendon the scape goat. Penalties may be reduced for athletes that confess.

Essendon will be made a scapegoat for this, and rightly so.
and why so is that. Still there is no actual evidence to say what has happened has involved any illegal drugs except the dribble read in the news paper and take for gospel. At least if our players were fed stuff they supposidly didnt realise they were taking unlike the Pies players who handed themselves over for taking illicit substances

Widespread use of peptides has been identified, or is suspected by the ACC, in a number
of professional sporting codes in Australia. Although the use of peptides appears to be more widespread in some major codes, individuals from a number of other sports are also suspected of using peptides.
Multiple players (in one code) from a number of clubs are suspected of currently using or
having previously used peptides, which could constitute an anti-doping rule violation.
16. Some players have also been identified as sourcing peptides for personal use. An instance
of team-based doping, orchestrated by some club officials and coaching staff, has also been identified. Apart from the peptide’s anabolic effects, it has been found that injured elite athletes, particularly players from one sporting code, have been using peptides to assist in rehabilitating soft tissue injuries.

While the level of suspected use of peptides varies between sporting codes, officials
from one club have been identified as administering, via injections and intravenous drips,
a variety of substances, possibly including peptides. Moreover, the substances were
administered at levels which were possibly in breach of WADA anti-doping rules. This
activity was orchestrated by some club officials and the club’s high performance unit.

BTW, as much as i hate Essendon, i was equally as harsh on my own Club when they rorted, as members of the Carlton Board would attest.

Essendon, it strongly appears, wantonly cheated on a mass scale

Whether it was with complete knowledge of the DreamTeam or wilful blindness matters little.

If they did that I would seriously stop watching. Everything amazing a player did would be suspect, and every discussion on footy would end up an argument on whether that player is a drug cheat or not.
