AUSTRALIAN CRIME COMMISSION - ORGANISED CRIME AND DRUGS IN SPORT
PEPTIDE AND
HORMONE CONSUMERS
A diverse group of individuals has been identified as users of peptides and hormones.
However, users can be categorised into three main groups:
• elite and sub-elite athletes
• bodybuilders
• anti-ageing clinic clients.
The ACC has also identified the administration of peptides and hormones to
thoroughbred racehorses, which is a breach of the Rules of Racing.
Elite Athletes 15
Widespread use of peptides has been identified, or is suspected by the ACC, in a number
of professional sporting codes in Australia. Although the use of peptides appears to be
more widespread in some major codes, individuals from a number of other sports are also
suspected of using peptides.
Multiple players (in one code) from a number of clubs are suspected of currently using or
having previously used peptides, which could constitute an anti-doping rule violation.16
Some players have also been identified as sourcing peptides for personal use. An instance
of team-based doping, orchestrated by some club officials and coaching staff, has also been
identified.
Apart from the peptide’s anabolic effects, it has been found that injured elite athletes,
particularly players from one sporting code, have been using peptides to assist in
rehabilitating soft tissue injuries.
While the level of suspected use of peptides varies between sporting codes, officials
from one club have been identified as administering, via injections and intravenous drips,
a variety of substances, possibly including peptides. Moreover, the substances were
administered at levels which were possibly in breach of WADA anti-doping rules. This
activity was orchestrated by some club officials and the club’s high performance unit.
While intelligence confirms the use of peptides in major sporting codes, it further suggests
that individuals in a range of other codes may also be using peptides.

I wouldn't be kicking the Dons while they are down right now.

Given everything we just heard from the ACC my thoughts went straight to one of our players and recent rumours.

On field performance is not going to be an indicator of possible involvement on this issue - IMO few will come out of this untarnished.
Not sure I am doing that

Just pointing you what may occur as a result of using certain illicit drugs and the possible consequences of said use
The fact that Essendon did have an unusually high number of injuries throughout the season would fit with this pattern, but could also be just coincidental.

Im drawing no conclusions

Everyone should be getting behind the game we love, AFL. Its no longer just an Essendon thing the problem is far wider and well spread than that and that has been confirmed by the ACC. The ACC dont come out and say that stuff if they dont have the evidence, they just wouldnt.

It puts some individuals in a really tough position where if they come forward they could reduce their punishment or do they hold back in the hope of not getting found.

To me this rings of a criticsm more so to ASADA more so than anything else. Why havnt these players been drug tested positively through the years? Thats the big question for me, are the clubs and people behind it just that one step ahead of ASADA and undetectable?

It wouldnt surprise me if Gold Coast are involved, surely with Dank working there i believe in 2011, he wouldve seen a young list that could do with some extra help to quickly add on that bulk and strength required to match a 3 year expectation of a premiership alot of pressure wouldve been on, up in GC you could get away with all so much more. Im not saying that are but just something that seems would be in Danks head.

As i said at the start dont start ridiculing other clubs, get behind the sport you love the AFL.

I think there's a few more forks coming for other people though.

Better pray like heck that Carlton aren't implicated!
You'll be OK , Juddy will donate a small percentage of his under the counter payments , which will be sufficient to pay off several teams of investigators.

True AFL in general will suffer from this. But if one team suffers more than others , well TBH Essendon is on my shortlist of preferences.

How utterly miraculous was the timing of that press conference, and what was the head of the AFL doing there when arguably the biggest story in AFL history is breaking all over the place?

Don't be conned people.

This is an exercise in diluting a cesspool in an ocean.

For those saying that you need a healthy Essendon to have a healthy competition that is a complete load of crap. If you believe that then you will also be spruiking that you need someone like Franklin or Ablett to be successful.

Game > Club > Player

If you don't believe in this structure then you might as well get rid of the salary cap and have a competition only the same 3 or 4 sides can win for the next 20 years, aka EPL.

They are not about to let drug cheats get away with it and make Essendon the scape goat. Penalties may be reduced for athletes that confess.
If it was proven that it was a directive imposed on players from the individuals within clubs then I'd have no trouble with players been given an amnesty

Hawthorn will use the Xavier Ellis defence.

In other news, I am 190cm and drug free. Can we set up some kind of draft so clubs can buy us like IPL?
None of the drugs I use are performance enhancing in the least and I'm only 2 years older than Michael Tuck was when he played his last game. I would be a tremendous mature age recruit.

of course you are - we aren't idiots - that was as loaded a question as you would ever see.

And in your later post you say the report all but says Dons used illicit drugs. Where did it say that? How much are you reading into what was not said?

I'd be very careful dancing on the Dons grave, they ain't dead yet, and we are not immune from this mess.
