I'm no fan of wildcard, but if its here its here and everyone on this board will go to the games or watch on tv. We know it.
Just like a night GF would get the biggest ratings ever.

The people outraged for this are ok with a Vic GF, SA gather Round etc etc etc.

They aren't happy with Gather Round.

Or the Vic GF.

So why would they be happy with yet more errosion of a fair and equitable competition?

It's like the AFL know they have stuffed up with Gather Round, Vic GF and Openning Round and this is trying to balance the ledger......by adding even more compromises to the fixture.

But you realise it's literally what they did with the Grand Final, right? They sold the GF hosting rights to Victoria for a long period of time. And anyone that argues it's not the same with the Grand Final is right - it's worse - the Grand Final is the most important game.

What’s worse is they sold it for 50 years for $220 million upgrade on a stadium they don’t own. If we were shareholders of the AFL, we could have gotten them sacked.

I recon he would reverse something if it didn’t work though. The AFL seem to have a policy of never reverting a mistake back. Instead we release a cane beetle and follow it up with a cane toad.

The Big Vic clubs have already had a good run the last 20 years, they don't need any more advantages.

Northern states get whatever round one is and the gather round is here, rather I'd be asking them why it shouldn't be in WA if it's to be played anywhere.

The state govt would want at least one local team.

And that won't be know until the end of August.

Good chance Collingwood will benefit from wildcard round as their list is aging but with the MCG advantage likely finish 9th or 10th as they refresh their list.

I went to the Gabba GF during Covid and it was rubbish compared to the 23/24/25 GFs I experienced in person, saying that as someone born and bred in Brisbane. Hope it never moves from the MCG.

That’s because there are good ideas, and bad ideas.
Some of that good and bad depends on who gets advantaged.

Interestingly, finding answers and ideas that everyone agrees upon with no advantages to anyone should be the goal.

Worryingly, finding answers and ideas that everyone disagrees upon is the status quo. Wildcard round was one of those ideas. Selling off Wildcard Round is doubling down on a bad idea, one I didn’t see coming because I didn’t think the AFL had it in them to go that low. Again, they prove me wrong.

If this is on the table legitimately, and the AFL continues to sell the GF to the Vic Government for a guaranteed home state GF every season, then I think home prelim finals should automatically offered to non-Vic teams if they qualify for them, for a set price say $3M, paid for by the state government involved.
