Well, possibly it was an error. Potentially not. It could be a better play since it demonstrates the pact that Hawthorn has with it's players:

- We play to win championships. We put every resource we can into the footy department. Including paying tax. Including building a world class training facility. Including the best fitness staff the world can find. Including a coaching development program that gets you the best coaches (as you can see from how consistently they are poached).

- Your commitment is to play your guts out and to share the money around. You must earn your position every week and accept less money than you can get from other clubs.

- Our commitment is that when you can no longer make the side we will facilitate your next career move, including helping you find a role in another team on a longer term than what we'll offer. You won't be alone, ala Lake, Hale, Suckers, Mitchell and Lewis.

And that's what it means for Hawthorn to be a destination club.
I don't really buy that.

I differentiate between the strategy of this trade week and its execution. The strategy of replenishing the midfield is the right one. But we have executed poorly. The Mitchell, Lewis and pick 10 trades have been very poor. Given the pick 10 trade, we effectively gave Hill away for free as well as Mitchell and Lewis. It has been poor trading. Wright has admitted they aren't pleased with the Lewis situation. A lot still riding on getting Jeager over the line.

The strategy might be genius and we will need to look at this in its totality at the end of Thursday and again at the end of next year's trade period. There are a lot of assumptions being made that we are going to land Jeager and then snaffle up Fyfe/Martin/Trengrove next year but let's be honest, there will be 18 clubs vying for those signatures. We are playing a high stakes game.

This isn't black and white. It is not simply a question of Clarko/Wright = genius or Clarko/Wright = crazy.

Yes, but the Mitchell and Lewis trades were not actually trades to benefit Hawthorn; they were trades to get Mitchell and Lewis a superannuation fund.
They simply were our club getting two stalwarts out of the club but giving them a decent return.

The draft picks we got in return were just symbolic.

Well, when we finish with this trade period having replaced two champions aged 34 and 30 with two budding champions aged 23 and 24, I'll call that a win by any measure.

Plus picking up Vickery, as dodgy as he has been for Richmond, is a good move to fill a critical need.

I reckon this is a spectacular off season that will be the envy of the competition. And the press will wonder how we did it in plain sight.

Hope we arent being softened for another blow. My back is killing meo_O
No mention of Jaegar, but I wouldn't be to concerned about that.

Very good interview, suggest others watch it if you have a spare 17mins.

That was always known??
I always thought, and many on here thought he cracked the sads when he couldn't get into the seniors and he thought he was a walk up start.

Rather than fight his way into the team.

We didn't seem interested in having him develop and break in either with only offering him a 1 year contract.

He got the same option that Sam got - if you can find a better deal, then we will help accomodate that

Aren't we a charitable organisation, particularly for Lewis who has 3 - 4 years of football let in him...

No shit, the amount of times ive stated for a fact that Joey didn't want to go, only to be howled down on here.
Now mabey hearing it from Clarko (the gentle version too) will change some minds.
