That doesn't sound like how we operate.

But if so, nice. And we can then move onto getting rockliff as well.
It isn't how we operate.
But if a team is unwilling to listen, negotiate and reason. well then there is no option.
Ive heard ashcroft would've accepted a few of our deals, but cronche just refused to let it happen.

What actually happens at mediation?? Who runs it? The afl?

The AFL mediator begs everyone to agree to a trade so no-one takes the draft/trade system to court where it could be folded up quite quickly.

It's an interesting prospect. All mediators have a different approach.

In this instance, I am hoping that whoever gets the gig isn't a pacifist. Sometimes you need somebody that will come in, play an active role and smash heads together.

It's a shame between the two clubs can't get a deal done but to be fair this hasn't been going on for only 2 weeks but more like 5 weeks so it's clear both teams need an independent person here to try and break this deadlock.

I think the AFL appoints one or more professional mediators (usually barristers) to be available if needed during trade week. Some years ago in Adrian Anderson's time that was the case.
Whilst they are paid by the AFL they are independent so conspiracy theorists can relax.
I assume this is still the method used.

Yeah some sort of AFL facilitator I'm pretty sure.
Gillon mediating.
Cochroach take the deal or were not funnelling anything your way this year. Your making our club a laughing stock. We're not in kinder anymore cockroach.
or
Clarkson you need to throw Rioli in there with pick 10. Cockroach walk away if you don't get. I'll make sure St Kilda get him somehow. Its their turn next year. Cockroach. We'll cover your loses.

Pick 10 and Hartung would be a great result if that is a chance. Dont think GC are keen on him though

That's a poor result mate. Pick 10 alone is a good result for us. Why offer more when Gold Coast's best alternative is nothing while our best alternative is getting JOM with pick 10 in the national draft. You're just throwing value away by giving Billy. The Hawks have positioned themselves well and pick 10 will either be swallowed up by the draft system or can be accepted by GC.

In fact the best outcome for us would be if we somehow managed to snatch JOM in the PSD with 14 and use pick 10 in the ND on best available talent. Magnitude of risk would be freakin high regardless of price JOM puts on his head

Clubs have to have 1 person in mediation who can sign off on trade. Cockrane wont be that person so his opinion wont matter finally
I'm sure he'd have to run it by others. Cochrane being one of them.
When it's all said and done a mediator can't force a trade if they keep saying no to everything.

A fair result at mediation is one that neither party is necessarily happy with but both can live with.

Pick 10 and Hartung is fair. GC would like more but they'd be crazy to let him walk when they could pick a gun kid and young player with upside. We would like to pay less because of what we gave up for pick 10 but that is what it is.

They don't have to deal for pick 10 and Hartung.

I think it's more of a point to prove for them now and wouldn't really matter what we put on the table.

GW did the right thing in putting us up to pick 10. I just hope Carlton trades pick 5 for Marchbank ASAP!

In footy, is the acquisition of a star free agent muted somewhat by the fact that they are one of 22 players playing? Or by the fact that the list management would be complicated further by the fact that there are more people on an AFL list? I don't have a definitive answer to this, but I lean towards yes.
Did you notice how much difference Dangerfield made to Geelong this year? Or could you imagine Hawthorn's success without Hodge leading them? One player can make a world of difference IF he is of that calibre.
