Gold Coast are being intentionally difficult. If we are prepared to walk away from the table and insist we'll take our chances with the draft it puts Gold Coast in a really bad position. One where they get nothing for him or they end up having to spend a top 10 pick themselves to get him.

Honestly they should be taking pick 10 with both hands. The fact we've offered a little more than that just goes to show how much good will we have when trading.

And then Jaeger can take the Suns and the AFL to court for restraint of trade in a case that he would most certainly win.
This is my question, can he do that and has it been done before ?
I remember Nick Stevens going to draft as Port did what GCS are doing and didn't he come out latter and admitted he didn't want to play for Carltank

They're a joke they will bulk at the end like last year, so instead of having 2 weeks to find use of pick ten they will 1 day.... if that.

Do you think it could be because Gold Coast has so much young talent already that a pick really doesn't mean anything to them? They're probably being sooks because they know they'll draft someone, invest 3-4 years into them, and just as they are getting to their prime, they'll get sick of crap culture and walk

Do the deal GC. If they can not attract a mid from somewhere else how is that the Hawks problem? Frustrating.
More importantly, this is most definitely restrict of trade. You can't refuse to let an uncontracted employee leave your company because you don't have someone to fill their role.

Mate there is no restraint of trade here. He is still contracted and isn't being held against his will.

It's simply GC acting well within their contractual rights to be daft pricks - which their doing a great job. Once JOM's contract expires, assuming a deal isn't done, he is free to play for whomever he wants albeit via the draft mechanism.

GC should have been the team to snare Sammy as player/assistant. They need a major cultural upgrade. And it would have been worth a decent pick and decent cash too

For a team that wanted players they'll end up with Hanley, 4,6,8 and 10.

No one wants to go there. This last year should have had a considered plan from the get-go to make the club more alluring. Instead they are being spoilt brats and will end up drafting a bunch of players who will likely ditch them.

Get JOM to nominate the shortest contract permitted and at the highest salary we can afford. Surely no one else has that kind of room. Especially for a kid who hasn't played in 2 years and doesn't want to play with anyone else. Use 10 and SPS or another highly rated player and grab JOM at our next pick.
North Melbourne sitting very quite with twice as much room in cap

The whole JOM situation is very sad because a petulant little child who is stamping his foot to get his own way is affecting another individual who only wants the best for himself. The way it is progressing the petulant little child just wants to punish and make an example of JOM to scare off any other players at his club from doing the same thing. The only thing that could be concluded from this behaviour if I was a player at GC is how the hell do I get out of here?
Their is absolutely no big picture thinking by the petulant little child, if only he could step away from it for a brief moment and see that the reason JOM is leaving is because he won't become the best he can be at the GC because the current culture is not of a high enough and professional standard.

If he could big picture it he would let JOM walk for nothing and then refocus his petulant hatred into a positive energy to rebuild GC's culture and build players who are respectful, loyal and want to give their all for their club.

If I was a GC supporter I would be happy with this because it would be an honest assessment of where they are as a team and I would be excited for each and every one of the little steps the club needs to take to build a solid foundation from where a strong culture can be fostered and be proud of the journey to get there.

GWS 51 and 55 should be the target
How do we do that. We'd need to invlove players if we offloaded Pick 10 and 48 for JOM
If Jom goes to the draft. He would be our 1st selection. We keep pick 48 to use on Jarman then draft package 66 & 70 to a slightly better pick so we can draft someone else before upgrading Stewart with pick 88

Perhaps the players association should look at a change to the contractual date.
Currently 31st of October, make it the 10th of October (to cover a belated GF) and the above scenario is taken out of play.

My view is it's until 31 Oct to give clubs a degree of power. Less than if the player was contracted beyond that yet and more than if the contract had expired. This is premised on the assumption that the clubs would be acting reasonably and in good faith. Clearly not the case with GC. And they do themselves no favours (particularly from a cultural perspective) by letting it play out the way it has
