I dont understand why everyone is in meltdown mode....
This was always going to happen, whether it was 2017 or 2018.
We've had our run, won 4 flags in 8 seasons, including 3 in a row.
In order for Omeara and mitchell to play in our starting 22, 2 mids have to go. On top of that, we need to get experience into orourke lovell howe wooward......If all the older players stay, these younger players will never develop to their full potential, so this will fast track their development, whilst we have 2 direct replacements for lewis and Smitchell (Jaeger and TMitchell), rather then just throwing all the inexperienced players into the deep end in 2 years.

The club knows more then any journo and supporter behind the screen, so back them in and get over it. I love lewis and mitchell, two of my all time top players, but this is reality, no one plays forever.

Thanks good post I needed that !! I agree just can't believe it will be Mitchell gone when he's still playing so well , id accept loosing Lewis and even hodge if he did it on his own terms but will trust the club and hope we see a clearer picture soon!

We struggled this season but Mitch did not. I'm fine with Lewis leaving but as far as I am concerned, Sam Mitchell is a required player for 2017.

However, as far as the club is concerned, he is not. The Club know a lot more than we do about these things so we just have to trust them. They have a great track record.

Yeah I agree - just really hard to understand at the moment!

I work for myself and I work from home so I get a lot of time to listen to talkback, Barrett adores Hawthorn.

He reports facts and then puts his opinion on them. It is his job. People think he is a flog because they can't take negative press about their footy club.

This is a thread for news, and 90% of the news comes in whispers and tweets from Barrett and his colleagues. They are quoted and flooded with liekes when they tweet some news that makes us smile, but the same people will then suggest they should be sued if they dare be critical or negative.

Your trade period would be a hell of a lot more boring if they weren't investigating every little skerret of scuttlebutt.
Hahahaha! OMG! Stop it. My stomach. My stomach. Barrett adores Hawthorn. Hahaha! I am going to be laughing about that all night, Brilliant.

His sliding doors rubbish pedalled the free-kick-hawthorn hysteria 6 weeks in a row. He derided every single match we won by 3 points claiming the umpires handed them to us.

If he adores hawthorn, he has a very strange way of showing it.

He is one player who has me intrigued.

Some journos are saying we need to clear cap space for O'Meara. However I believe the club would've already budgeted and factored in TOM, JOM and TV coming, plus Hill leaving. I seriously doubt that GW suddenly woke up last week and thought "oh no, how can we afford these guys?". The journos may assume we're bumbling incompetent fools just like them, but I actually don't believe it.
So the fact that we are now apparently trying to make space in the cap makes me suspect there is someone else we are looking at.
Whether that is for this year or next is unclear. The player might be Rockliff or Fyfe / Josh Kelly / Dylan Shiel or who knows but it certainly has me curious.
Maybe the budgeting all year factored in Lewis and Mitchell leaving to accommodate the 3 ins. I doubt that we are planning any other big names besides jarman.

No, Clarkson has been a legendary coach but if there is truth to the unrest at the club everyone needs to be looked at, it's not a great sign when senior members of the club are wanting out or happy to walk. This sort of situation can destroy the club, keeping the core group together is more important than the coach.

I think the media love to focus on anything hawthorn in a negative way .... its always awkward when teams have to finish greats like sammy up .... so theyve come up with an aggressive win/win solution thats outside of normal procedure and all these campaigners want to run with 'crisis at hawthorn ' kinda opinion peices. ....sure it might be a little short term pain ... but i trust that there will be long term gain ... even if jordan is out the door too..... and the thing that cracks me up is if we weren't losing anyone other than hilly from our best 20 theyd be bleating about how unfair it is that hawthorn can bring in jom titch and tv ... and how something needs to be done to bring us into parity with the less successful clubs

The only player looking for a way out is Lewis. We are bringing in two new mids and his spot is in jeopardy. He was also offended by something the club did, but whatever it is, I'm sure it was for the best. Mitch is happy to walk because he is looking out for his future. If things don't eventuate he is happy to keep playing for the Hawks.

Clarkson is undoubtebly an amazing coach and much of our success is due to him, but that doesnt mean we have to agree and go along with every decision he makes. Everyone is wrong sometimes.
I just think we should wait until trade period is over before giving him the sack.
