Think caldwell and hobbs will more than cover a Jarrod berry type role heading into the future

We have exactly zero 192cm,/90kg contested ball winning, defensive stalwart midfielders with an elite tank.

He jumps Setterfield, Hobbs and Caldwell automatically, and might be our 2nd best mid after Merrett depending on one's view of Parish.

He doesn’t really played onball though or even win much contested ball. He’s a c grade player, they literally got dunkley in rather than giving berry that role/ responsibility. To say hes anywhere near parish is a strange take (and I’m not a huge fan Parish)

Jarrod Berry isn’t it for me. Out of those three mentioned it’s Isaac Cumming easily if we can entice him down.

Dumb footballer at times though. Some really poor decisions cost Lions dearly in the GF.

Smith is the wrong size for us IMO, he's the same size as most of the rest of our midfield.

More the fact he's weak in the contest and has bad dynamic movement.

For whatever reason, I'm just not a fan of Berry. The next midfield recruit has to be one that changes our midfield drastically. Berry is not that game-changing midfielder.

Yeh hard pass on all of that. You’re only recruiting smith if he’s going to be full time on ball.

Should say Durham or Duursma. Tenacity at the contest inside, running capacity inside and out. I would expect he'd get time on wing or on-ball if we brought him in.

...but no, he wouldn't be my priority signing.

Forgot about bailey, he would definitely be on top of the list. Perfect replacement for stringer.

Re Berry I think people are having receny bias based on his poor GF display, he isnt an A grade mid but does alot of the hard defensive work and running our mids don't. He would be a similar type to setters (but better IMO).
Dunkley didnt replace him in the lions set up, he replaced lyon.

Cumming is a great call. good user off half back. Had a bad year with injury

He’s alright but don’t think he’s any better than Caldwell and Hobbs. Both of those guys are behind him in development- Hobbs especially

Find a higher quality bigger midfielder to push Setterfield out and/or Merrett playing more off a flank where his kicking is still a weapon.

We now have depth. If you can only pick say 3x small mids and we have 5 then 2 of them are stuck in the VFL.

Although more realistically they might find a spot at HB or Small forward.
