Don’t think we need to bring in fringe 22 quality players when we are trying to turn over the list.

In the forward line it’s clearly Draper vs 2MP. One will leave. 2MP has 3-5 years left and has returned to form. He’s also seemed to step up as a team leader and is doing good things.

Draper potentially has another decade in the red and black but his injury is serious and giving him a long term contract that he will require is filled with unnessecary risk.

I think it’s a very hard decision that will likely depend on how Essendon finish the season and what compensation is available for both players.

He's been pretty trash as a forward for his whole career. Never averaged a goal a game across 8 seasons. If we are getting him it would solely based on his defensive work he's done this year.

We have minimum 2 first rounders, could easily pick up a tall prospect in this draft to develop along side Caddy. I see no reason to resign ourselves to 28 year old mid level prospects.

I think Laverde stays because I think he doesn’t have options elsewhere and he has friends and relationships at the club. A few more years getting an AFL list pay check playing mostly VFL seems like his ceiling

Especially when 3rd rounders don’t even count for points anymore.

I’m less interested in Moneyball targets at present because I think we have a bunch of moneyball prospects already and our list squeeze means we can either ditch end of list guys and pay for moneyball type pickups.

Or we can consolidate best 22 types into better players and trust our scouting to unearth a decent VFL player or two via midseason draft/ssp
I like the 2nd path not as a sugar hit but as a sensible development plan.

If we lose Sam Draper I would have no problem chasing Miles Bergman. A player who can kick it and is a good size. Though my guess is st kilda or the bulldogs are more likely.
Two top 10 draft picks plus Bergman would be a nice haul.
Harley Reid looks likely to stay west.
Right now if we lose Draper our list changes would likely be:
Draper, Davey, cox, Menzies, tsatas, Shiel, Nguyen and Hobbs in trouble or trade bait. Plus mid season draftees except may.
We cannot overpay for Draper like we did for Darcy parish
