Flanders is only going to go to a team where he’s going to play on ball. He’s not going to play on ball at essendon.
Riley Garcia is one I’d be looking at as a low cost option to play a hard running half forward role.

Haha I actually thought about that!

I think we’d have to throw something in.

If there is anywhere I'd have thought would be in to Tsatas it would be the Saints. They don't have that extractor type yet. Could compliment Wilson, Travaglia etc. as part of that young nucleus.

And they keep complaining that with all the bids this year their top 10 pick isn't going to be worth as much. Well here is a way to transform it into a top 5 pick. You're welcome, Aints.

We have a pick 5 playing vfl
And he’s out the door too by the sounds of it. Could be a fair trade*

*it isn’t, I think we’d have to throw in something else

These guys should all be put up for trade:
  • Parish
  • McGrath
  • Ridley
  • Redman
  • Langford
  • Perkins
  • Tsatas
  • Hobbs
  • Shiel
  • Draper
I would say that in the next 3 year period you probably would want to move most of them on. A few of them sooner than others but it is these type of moves that we need to take.

Who would you look to move this year, outside shiel who is clearly done, and Draper who we have no say over.
Anyone we can find a new home for really, in whatever order that happens to be. They're all contracted aside from the two you mentioned so the player has to find something agreeable to them.

Yeah pass on most of those.

Ridley, Langford and Sheil are some of the better leaders on the team and should stay.

Perkins is about 10 games short of 100 and likely won’t reach that this season. Is contracted next year. At the very least should get 1 more year.

Tsatsas has worked hard and again has less trade value than football value. No point taking the loss.

With Draper it’s him vs 2MP can only keep 1. I think it depends on the type of contract he’s being offered and who has more trade value. It’s a 50/50 decision.

Others I wouldn’t mind moving on

Shiel is obvious.
Would entertain offers for Hobbs.
I have my doubts on paying too much for Draper and 3 years would be enough for me.
If Draper stays then I see no reason to keep Bryan.
Perkins is done as far as we are concerned.
Cox is cooked.
They will probably keep Parish but you would not stand in the way if someone wanted him.
Gresham. Would give him away for cheap although there is probably no interest.
That would be 6 or so experienced guys.
I still think Lual is probably in the danger zone.
I think Tsatas is a bust myself so if he went I am not angry but I do see the point of a last chance saloon season next year.
Menzie is done.
Prior is basically a stop gap.
McGrath is an issue but we basically have him Redman and Prior in that spot with Roberts coming through. Hard to move hi out.
Next year if Ridley and Langford have long term soft tissue injuries again I am looking at them.

Then we are going to keep going nowhere. Same old Essendon mindset.
Shiel is done with us.
Ridley and Langford. Not this year but if they have 5 or 6 week soft tissue injuries again next year teh it is time to cut your losses.
Tsatas has worked hard to fix his kicking but he has not improved his outside game or his commitment to the physical game at all. Taking the loss has nothing to do with it. A loss is also holding a guy too long.

I’m literally on board with trading the VC and a former AA squad member (Redman)

I wouldn’t call that same old Essendon. Where we disagree is I’m happy to keep VFL standard players if they seem to have the appropriate professionalism and have managed to play like they care and are willing to be somewhat selfless in a team full of selfish footballers.

That’s the culture I want to change more than anything else. I want the entitled selfish players gone.

With Perkins in the last chance saloon

The why keep Shiel ? He has been exactly that in periods over the last 3 years.

My observations include no behind the scenes knowledge. I don’t know how he is behind the scenes.

Based solely on watching him play some afl and some vfl I think his time in the VFL has helped him mature and become a good teammate. I also think much of his unhappiness is justifiable.

Shiel is not one of the better leaders what are you talking about. He’s a horrible leader

i wouldn't be in a rush to trade Ridley - guy is SO important

BUT, if he is injured again than what can you do? His body just doesn't seem to be up to it

So you think his unhappiness is justified but also want to keep an unhappy player because he’s a good leader, which he isn’t.

You know what else is important. Actually playing, it’s no good being a gun player if you actually never play.

i mean.........that's exactly what i was inferring....

Yeh I know I’m just saying at some point we have to cut our losses and maybe look to move him on. Can’t keep carrying blokes who can’t regularly play over 20+ games a year. It’s the same reason we shouldn’t be in a rush to sign Draper, he’s constantly out injuried.
