I mean seriously, what the hell?

Yes I know it’s racing not footy that he’s doing… but in politics, sport, etc… are corruption and conflicts now just so blatant now that this thing could be allowed?

What happened to “avoid conflicts and the appearance of conflicts” in ethics class?

Amazing

It's a valid concern but there's probably more appropriate boards for this thread.

Looks like he’s had a racing podcast for a few years. Don’t mind him doing that but I don’t think the show (or himself) should have any bookie sponsorships - not questioning his character but the potential impact from conflicting interests is too risky. Surely the AFL have been keeping an eye on his podcast?

Massive COI. When I was working at the NFL (pre-LV Raiders) you couldn't even walk into any casino with a sportsbook.

Players and officials are (rightly) prohibited from betting on AFL games.

That a league employee (an umpire, no less) is also employed by a betting company is staggering.

Who on earth ticked this off?

Bear in mind, Nick Foot umpired the 2024 AFL GF, so he's clearly pretty good at the job.

Anyone that is a racing fan and has listened to his media stuff, knows that he never comments on anything in regard to AFL.
Wow he never talks about his conflicts of interest? What an absolute professional.

and yea huge racing fan here. Love seeing a horse be put down!

Working in media talking about racing is one thing.

The guy is now directly employed by a betting company.

Indefensible.

The best part about AFL is the connections you make along the way in a fish bowl like Melbourne no doubt many umpires are great friends of the betting community

Agree, can't be an AFL umpire and work for a betting company at the same time IMO.
