It would mean the AFL must give us the best draw for week 1 and if we are top that should mean MCG

Well go North this week then (& Sydney next week) :thumbsu:

(I just assumed that whoever played Freo would get Etihad due to probable lower crowd)

Yeah. Whoever plays Freo will be at Etihad I reckon.

Just Finish top and then we will get the 'G' for the first final if Hawthorn finish 2nd they will be playing @ jihad so i suggest we Barrack for North Melbourne V Hawthorn this week and Sydney in Round 23 as long as we win both games

North are no chance of beating Hawthorn, and I'd be amazed if Sydney got near them as well. The best we can hope for is win both games, and ensure we finish 2nd. If we have to play at Etihad so be it.

It's an oval with goalposts. If we can't cope with that we don't deserve to be there.

IF we had to play at Etihad in week 1 of the finals, would the club have any say in having the roof left open or is that totally up the AFL?
Could the club pressure the AFL that we don't get a home final in Geelong, that we are being forced away from our 2nd preference of the MCG so if we have to settle for Etihad as least give us some concession to play in our preferred conditions especially if it is going to be wet?

Don't get why we can't play the 'g four times over a weekend..

Friday Night, Saturday, Saturday Night and Sunday.

A 1:30 Saturday afternoon game finishing at 4 leaves a good 3.5 hours before the next game, surely time to clear the ground and give it a bit of a clean-up.

That said I think its all about how we play rather than where.

Complete bullshit that we don't have a final IN GEELONG. Its all about maximising crowd i know that but for the AFL who carries on about the integrity of the competition and making it fair, a team that earns a home final like we have should actually get a real home final.
Sorry to intrude on your board...I know how it feels, take Sydney's finals scenario; we will be playing a "home" final at ANZ Stadium and not the SCG. AFL does want to maximise attendance, but in the process doesn't reward the home advantage. Joke really.

I dont think that is enough time to get the ground ready.

As for the topic- I actually have no strong opinion one way or the other. I really dont mind, and I think we play well at both venues.

Pretty sure the clubs have zero say. Isnt the policy night games = closed, day games IF the weather is clear = open, rain = closed.

Then it doesn't matter where we finish on the ladder, is that right?

And I was just going to say how much I'd admired all your work today, ploughing on and bulldozing all the egregious nonsense like Whelan the Wrecker with St Vitus Dance. ;)

I miss your Clint Eastwood av.

They have to contractually play a final at Etihad if theres any more than 2 games in Melbourne 1st week of finals, so if we are facing Freo, would probably be there. Hopefully what happened last year would be still be firmly in the back of their minds should that scenario develop! :)

Don't like us at Etihad - G is our happy hunting ground

Somebody mentioned on here the GFL are playing finals at SS so even if we were allowed to use it, we wouldn't be able to.
Also what we are doing to the AFL is considered 'unfair'.;)

I could see 3 games but not 4. Stadium deals and $$ aside, im not sure the surface of the ground would take 4 games in 3 days.

2 yes, 3 possibly but 4 might just be too much for it.. especially if it rains a lot...

Go Catters

I actually think we'd prefer to play Freo at Etihad. Not sure about Sydney. Will know after this week :)

True. But what is better for us - Etihad or Perth? That's my point, as long as we're in Melbourne the first week the advantage (whatever it may be) is still with us.

It'll never happen but - If get a home final and play an interstate team in the first week of the finals then it should be at Simonds Stadium.

Back to reality - Our record at Etihad is not that great, so I'd prefer the MCG. :D
