The AFL has just recently updated the stats page on the website and I cant believe how bad it is now. It seems like a lot of features have been removed.

Players no longer have a dedicated page with their stats for the year, previous years or a biography.
You can no longer make player comparisons between players, you used to be able to compare 5 at a time.
You can no longer filter specific stats instead you are restricted to filtering by very limited categories of stats.
The AFL player ratings seem to no longer be on the website at all.

On the other hand one thing they have added is the stats for all the years back to 2013. Has anyone noticed anything else that has been added/removed or maybe found a way to access some of the features that I believe have been removed?

It had already become shocking, I'm scared to see what they've done now.

There was absolutely nothing wrong with it 5 years ago; was changed for the sake of changing.
I didnt mind when they added stats pro, it was hard to navigate so I understand why some didnt like it but it had a lot of information in it and was versatile, letting you compare players in all sorts of ways. These new changes are just backwards, I dont understand why they would strip information and features out of it when it was already missing heaps of interesting information that they have available from champion data.

And they did all this after surveying AFL fans to ask what they wanted to see and how it was presented.

Late to the party but I swear you could look at a players profile and see play by play involvements that they had in each game, is that not available anymore?

surely they didn't take away such a good feature
Pretty much gone. You can get them through the app but only for 10 players per game. I haven't even clicked on them to see if it's every play by play for those guys or just selected plays. Having the full system as it were last year will probably bob up as a paid feature in the app at some point in the future.

The AFL have a long history of putting various stats and features on their digital platforms only to take them away. Champion Data probably wanted to charge more to put certain stats into the public domain and the AFL deemed us fans as not worthy.

Most decision within big sporting corporations will come down to the bottom line. Even when they are doing things which save fans money it's only because they are hoping the goodwill and news it generates will translate into more viewers and attendees.

I get the business side of things but it's sad that us fans are rarely the winners in this sphere.

This is a good article I remember reading a few years back on champion data and the AFL. It's worth a read: Locking up AFL data will only make it less valuable

What a letdown, this seems to be another shit thing to happen due to livepass going away, the stats pro was initially angled as a livepass benefit

Looks like they let us have it for a couple years and then yanked it
