Trade Whispers - Michael Whiting

BRISBANE LIONS
Whispers: Kurt Tippett is the man on the Lions' lips. The club pursued him as a potential replacement for Mitch Clark during the last trade period, and is now full steam ahead for the out-of-contract Crows forward.
Commodities: The Lions have one of the youngest lists in the competition. They have re-signed most of their elite young talent and probably don't need much from the coming draft. They could afford to trade away a pick or two.
Needs: They really need a key position player to complement captain Jonathan Brown. Daniel Merrett has been a good stop-gap option, but the club's young forwards haven't come on as quick as they would have liked. Another outside runner/winger would also be handy.
Trade history: Since Michael Voss took over in 2009, the Lions have been aggressive during trade week. The ill-fated plunge at the end of his first season landed wayward Brendan Fevola along with a host of other recycled players, and after a quiet 2010, the Lions were back at it again last year trying to replace Clark. They chased Tippett, got Jordan Lisle and even ended up with rookie sensation Dayne Zorko in a deal with Gold Coast.
Fantasy trade: Kurt Tippett for the Lions' first round draft pick (likely to be No.6). They got pick 12 for Clark last year and would be expected to give up something more themselves for a proven goalkicker and back-up ruckman.

Surely Mr. Whiting is not serious??? We need:

A CHB
A CHF
A FF
A small forward capable of kicking goals
A clearance specialist
2 premium mids

The mind boggles.......he makes it sound like we're on the cusp of a top 4 finish, not a team who has an average losing margin of nearly 10 goals against teams above us on the ladder!!!

We've got most of those positions covered.
CHB - Matt Maguire
Small forward - Dayne Zorko
Clearance specialist - Jack Redden/Tom Rockliff
FF - Jordan Lisle or hopefully Kurt Tippett.

The main thing I reckon we need is outside mids. Someone with pace, breaks the lines and uses the ball well.

Maguire, as good as he's been recently needs a backup.
Zorko will be a midfielder, I meant a goalkicking small ala Rioli / Betts / Krakouer.
Redden and Rockliff are not clearance specialists; we hardly win this stat over a game.
Lisle is not a good enough forward to pin an hopes on moving forward. Tippett is not a Lion, we may as well name Petrie, Cloke, Reiwoldt etc....

Green will be a small forward, and I think Zorko will spend at least 70% Of his game time in there as well. We have Justin Clarke as our future CHB the way hes tracking along. CHF, we have Retzlaff but we do need to get another one in development asap, unless we get Kurt and he can hold down that roll, rather then be foward\ruck. Then we have Longer\Luen handle all ruck duties, and Longer playing full foward when not rucking.

What we REALLY need is the midfielders of clearance. We have some classy and smart midfielders, but we dont have the ones capable of busting out of the middle just yet. Rich and Zorko are really the only two, and Beams will certainly be up there to.

I agree with other comments - what do you expect? We have a large number of replacements devaloping in all the areas you mention above? some people don't seem to realise that it takes at least 60-70 games to decide if someone is truley up to it or not.. we have a wide range of players across most if the feild capable of maturing into 200 game players. What we lack is an obvious replacement for brown and a replacement for Mitch Clark.

I'll happily contribute a block of chocolate towards a decent clearance mid :) That would be more helpful than anything really.
