I assume their apologist of the last couple years, Sandra Davey, is deservedly out of a job.

The statistics page is blank, except for the advertisements of course.

"Read mm.afl.com.au ...." for minutes and then "Done" but still no content.

Its not that frickin' hard! This is beyond pathetic.

I actually does work.......but when you click on 'stats' from the main page it goes to the stats of the Brisbane Collingwood game in Round 2!

You need to then to choose the game you want to see the stats for again.

Gameday live is awesome, but it takes wayyy to long to get there with the long waiting homepage that you have to get through

The afl website is taking me ages to load.

They should make it 2 different formats rather than this crappy flash format. Although gameday live seems alright in flash.

I cant even get on to the AFL or any club sites and Ive got cable 8mb broadband with Bigpond?????

I'm wondering if it's because us Bigpond people, don't have any of the downloads from their sites added to our download allowance, so because we get it free, they slow down the download speed from their sites. I wouldn't put it past them.

on top of everything else that has been said here about how incredibly shit this website is i have found something else to ad. Went to the vid section and managed to get it to work :eek:. Who ever does their editing for the highlights packages of the weekend games (the one were it says q1 q2 q3 q4 highlights) needs to be fired!!!! Totally shit house. Very jerky, way to much editing going on, don't take it account that sometimes you might wanna see how a bloody team got into a position to kick the bloody goal  Horrible :thumbsd:

It's a terrible site there are so many better AFL sites out there; for AFL news just go to superfooty and for talking footy just use bigfooty or footyfans.com.au is a good new one i've found and if your after stats footywire is prob the best so there really is no need to bother with the afl site anyway especially when it is as bad as it is. The AFL need to look at the NFL and NBA and see how much they put into there online communications and put in a similar effort.

Someone from Hawk Headquarters complained about the slow load times of the Hawthorn FC website. Here is the response from Telstra Bigpond:

Thank you for your email dated 24 Mar regarding AFL website.

We appreciate the time you have taken to provide this feedback. I have passed this on to the relevant department who take into consideration AFL fans opinions and views when making further decisions.

We do however, have some troubleshooting advise that may help resolve your problem:
Please ensure that your computer and internet connection meet the minimum requirements for optimum performance:
- Internet connection speed of 512 kbps or above (slower connections may still work, but we don't recommend it)
- PC computer with 1 1GHz CPU, 256 MB of RAM and an accelerated video card
- Windows XP is recommended, but we can't guarantee that Windows Vista and Apple Mac computers will work
- Screen resolution of 1024 x 768
- Internet Explorer 6 is recommended, but IE7 may work (available here http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/)
- Adobe Flash Player 9 or above (available here http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/...ShockwaveFlash)
- Windows Media Player 9 is recommended, but more recent versions may work (available here http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...a/default.mspx)

You can also try the following troubleshooting steps if you are having problems with browsing/viewing video (these can also help other browsing problems too)
- Try closing and re-opening your web browser, and restarting your computer
- With the browser window open, press Ctrl F5 (refresh)
- Try deleting cache and cookies in your browser (Select "Tools", then "Internet Options" and click on "Delete Cookies". After clicking "Yes", choose "Delete Files", and choose "Yes" again)
- Try reducing security settings in your browser (Select "Tools", then "Internet Options" and "Security" tab, then click "Custom Level". Reset custom settings to Medium and click "Reset")
- You may need to disable any security application. Eg. Norton Security etc

Pathetic.

When I was at university, I used to dabble in website design (even had a couple of paying gigs) and it was always a mantra with me that in order to increase the potential audience the website design had to be clean, simple and quick to load.

Somebody at Telstra Bigpond has failed website design 101 and forgotton to tell his/her employer.

The team home pages are not even loading up at all !!!

BIG FOOTY - WE NEED TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THE AFL SITE - MODS HOW ABOUT WE STICKY THIS ISSUE ?!

IT is devastating not being able to watch games over seas - how many expats are there who are being screwed over ?

Come on this has been going on for years and is probably one of the biggest issues in Footabll.

The current debate surrounding the web is that it has surpassed television as the primary medium and yet the AFL website simply does not work.

Telstra has banned any other internet content from being broadcast, including radio streaming - and and have replaced this with a service which does not work - completely denying all current supporters of any coverage outside australia as well as preventing any promotion of the game any where in the world except for teh captive market of Australia - absolutely appalling.

I build websites for some of the biggest names in the world, both Agencies and Clients (currently building Maddonas and then O2's, the phone companies, new site). I think I can speak from experience that the Telstra site is without doubt a total failure and the AFL should have them for breakfast - they have totally failed to deliver a functional website.

This is what gets my goat the most. They are taking us for a ride and there is nothing that us overseas folk can do about it.:mad::mad:

Problem is, does anyone involved with BigFooty have any clout with Telstra whatsoever???

I have no doubt that if we had a thread or a "hot topic" then the issue would be brought up in the media within a couple of weeks. I feel this does not happen as BigFooty are highly sensitive to threats of legal action.

It will eventually become an issue in the media - if the source was big footy that would be great advertising for the site - get onto it guys. !!

Games Day live is ok, i mean i used it last year and it was only five minutes behind what was happening LIVE on the radio...

Thats ok when you can tune into your radio in your house in Australia. Radio hasnt been working on gameday in the UK.

Luckily the Hawks game was shown live here last weekend but it pisses me off I cant listen to the next game, or any others. If the afl are keen to spread the word of the great game, they dont show it.

audas i hope you're right. good work man. :thumbsu::thumbsu:

I'd forgotten about this, somebody else posted this a while back, instructions on how to get live radio abroad. Very handy. :thumbsu:

1. click on Game Day Live on the main page
2. Once the screen comes up look for the "Live Game Radio" link
click on that
3. Once the window comes up.. Click on "Bookmarks" in the menu bar
4. Then click on "Add a Bookmark..."
once the window with the title "Type a name for the bookmark, and
choose where to keep it." window comes up highlight the URL (usually
starting with )
5. Copy the link using CMD+C
6. Hit "Cancel"
7. Close the window for the "Live Game Radio"
8. Open VLC
9. Go to "File"
10. Go to "Open Network.."
11. Paste the URL into the field after HTTP/FTP/MMS/RTSP
12. Highlight this part of the URL: "http://xml.afl.com.au/live_audio.
htm?mediaurl=" and hit delete.
13. This should leave a URL at the top that looks like this:
"rtsp://wm9.streaming.telstra.com/ ucs-wh_afl0live3"
14. Change the rtsp:// to mms://
15. Click OK
16. Give VLC a second or two to buffer the audio and...

*Apologies to the original poster, I'd cut and paste it onto my computer. But cheers! :thumbsu:

I sit there watching little green circles for God knows how long.
Fair dinkum, if that website was "60 Minutes", it would take 1 1/2 hours to watch it.:)

Another issue that's annoying me is that players who have been traded/drafted from other clubs still have their old mugshots shown whenever you click on them. Travis Johnstone still plays for Melbourne, apparently, and Stuart Dew plays for Port Adelaide. FFS, Telstra has had six months to get their right mugshots in place.
