Michaelangelo Rucci wrote a good article/opinion piece outlining the path AFLW needs to take and I thought he covered off most of the points

Adelaide Advertiser

Point 1. Confirming GM prefers an 8 team 8 week season filler
Point 2. Free Entry. Recognises it was a masterstroke and the AFL needs to continue with it while working out the best way to time entry fees
Point 3. Grass Roots. Hopes the AFL doesn't forget about the Grass Roots now the Mens game has started
Point 4. Umpires. Also wants more development of umpires. Using trainees highlighted the lack of depth
Point 5. Skills. Agreed that the more coaching is needed and more preparation
Point 6. Presentation. Speaking from a journalists point of view Rucci was pleased with how the females and the clubs utilised the media and gave so much of themselves in interviews and with their time. He also hopes they don't shut down like the Mens Game has

Did you even read anything I wrote? Clearly not, so a waste of time reading any more of your post because it would all be based on nothing.

I read what you wrote - it was the same crap I've read all summer about 'low scores', and then you incorrectly assumed the quarter lengths were the same as the men, which I pointed out was incorrect and they are close to half the length the men play

Ohh 66 points average per game that's way better.... wait....

And you might want to re-read that bit about "URRRRRRRR DURRRRRRRH IT WAS AN ADDDDD" because I very celarly explained how either the ad is lying or it really happened. Thanks for proof I was right.

mate if you hate women's footy that's fine but don't pretend to think you're the first person to post here about the low scores

maybe the ad filmed a practice match and they added that part it, I don't know, but it wasn't a league match - I don't see how it really matters

What practice match? Why was nobody watching?

Also I don't hate women's footy, I hate low scoring footy with no Essendon in it.

In regards to the ad.

It is not even original. There is an NFL version, soccer version, basketball, and probably other sports I haven't seen yet. Obviously the ads and codes are selling different products.

How in the world anyone could think it was from an actual game is beyond me. It's a commercial. Commercials take liberties all the time. That you're taking the whole "it's lying" stance, just reinforces your neanderthal approach. If you haven't watched a game, don't ****ing come in here making comments based on uninformed assumptions. Ass.

Why is it such a problem for some people that some people don't like AFLW?
This is a general womans football discussion thread and if you don't like it you should be able to say so without being told you are wrong, sexist, etcetera.
These forums are getting ridiculous, if you don't follow the AFL line of thinking then you are taken to task.
anyone who has said anything negative about the AFLW has been taken to task and it is just stupid, each to their own and everyone is entitled to a view.

Ah yes, the old "don't hold people accountable for their nonsense" spiel. I've come to know it well during the past two months.

Its not, so long as that opinion is expressed apropriately and not repeatedly.

This is the womens football forum, if you dont watch or dont like it, then you should probably visit forums on subjects you do like. I dont visit the soccer forum and go on about how much i hate the game.

These forums are getting ridiculous, if you don't follow the AFL line of thinking then you are taken to task.

Ill take you to task if you go on ad nauseum about it.

anyone who has said anything negative about the AFLW has been taken to task and it is just stupid, each to their own and everyone is entitled to a view.

And everyone is entitled to query that view.

Hardly surprising you responded, could of almost written it for you, about as predictable as AFL house. Lol

It's not a problem, per se - But we've heard the same 'skills poor/scores too low' repeatedly - it's not as if no one has ever raised these points

also please point out where anyone has been called wrong or sexist in this thread - I think I made it clear that it's fine if you're not interested in women's footy, but the people who are (i.e post here) don't need to hear constantly about how much others don't like it

make sense, yeah?

There's two main reasons I haven't watched a game in this leauge:
- There's no Essendon
- I only realized that the first game had been played when I heard media coverage about it the next day (wasn't planning to watch it but may have had I known it was on)

Since then there's one key reason I haven't watched it. The scores are appauling. Just looked at the ladder, highest 'points for' is under 300 points. Not one team can get an average of 50 points per game? The average score in all these matches is just 33 points. It's an asolute joke.

I'm assuming (potetentially incorrectly) that these games are played in identical times and conditions to AFL matches. If the AFL was getting an average score of 40 points per team over 7 weeks, there'd be an uproar. Attendences would plummet, TV audiences would disappear, the AFL would be changing half the rules in the game to get scoring up. The only reason that the women's leauge is getting away with this is because its the Women's leauge's first season.

I'm hoping that next season people don't show up to the games if they continue to have such hapless scores, because it will force the AFLW to do somthing to increase scores. If they can't get the scores up, with the novelty value of the leauge gone, I can't see it lasting very long before TV networks refuse to cover consistant aggerate 60 point matches and people stop going to the games.

It's not going to bode well if the Grand Final has an aggerate of around the average 66 points, while the AFL round 1 games get average aggregates of 200 points like we saw last night.
Women don't have the strength of men -you are not aware of this? You have had such little involvement with women?
Therefore, you are unable to realise women are not able to kick as far as men -so virtually no goals will be kicked from c.45- 50 mtrs, resulting in fewer goals overall.
The AFLW is being played in summer -you may not be aware it is often very hot & humid in the Aust. summer.
Therefore, women will often have sweaty hands & sweat running into the eyes (cf playing winter AF), & be fatigued. This makes kicking/general skill execution/ decision making much more difficult -all contribute to lower scores.

2017 is the FIRST year of the AFLW, the team squads have been together for c. 8 weeks only, & their games (minimum time-on) are c. HALF the time of the AFL duration -context?

The VFL started in 1897 (AF had been played since 1858).
For the first few years after 1897, it was very common that each side were able to kick (in much longer games) about 20 points each. Arguably, I'm sure you will agree, this confirms the AFLW has had a promising start, is a very worthy comp. & is likely to improve after year one.

I suggest you find something you enjoy -& then others might like to read your balanced & wise insights.

I don't have a problem if woman play Footy. They can play on weekends like most other people but why does the AFL promote z grade footy as a spectacle and pump money into it.
Any decent 16 years old males could whip these women's teams.

We can put our heads in the sand but it's just more pc trash. Watching the GF now and cannot believe how everyone has swallowed this pc nonsense as if this is acceptable as a spectacle.

Let's Lower the standards just to make the pc crowd feel warm and fuzzy

If a female surgeon had to operate on you and was this far lower than a male surgeon would you allow it

BTW I don't have an issue with female sport on TV like netball diamonds as they are top class or even womans hockey but woman's afl is a giant con job.

Good post. If something is z grade people should be able to say it without the snowflakes she getting offended.
If you buy a car that performed as well as woman's afl standard it would be called a lemon

All good and well, but if you don't like it then this is the forum for you surely, you are not going to the SANFL forum to have your say about AFLW.
in the womans board is where you will hear the people's view.

Because the snowflakes will be offended and it will deemed not appropriate to say as you feel unless you say it as the AFL want you to say it.
You must like it, your friends must like it, it must be all encouraging and politically correct.
Have you not been on BF long?? Lol

I've enjoyed watching the women play this year, and I think the competition has legs. But they have a long way to go to get anywhere near the men in terms of skills and fitness. This is understandable given these women are amateurs really. The Woman's grandfinal was not a great game to watch, very poor skills overall. But they'll get better now they'll get more money invested in them to develop. I hope the day comes when we look back on the first GF and laugh at how it was compared to how it is in that time.
