AFL X

Will this be men only or mixed? Why not have 3 women and 4 men per side?

Because it's full contact. I don't know why people keep conflating this with 9s when they're different concepts aimed at different markets.

Unlike the 90s, the State of origin would be terrible to watch today. VICS would win easily.

It doesnt work anyway, teams dont want to put their best players on the line mid season. AFLX is after the seasons over for teams missing in finals action and to fill the bye round.

Clearly you got no idea what you talking about or understand the context my anger about all this.

"Unlike the 90's" for FFS, you got no idea. The 90's is what took state of origin off the map for all these decades. It was terrible what they allowed it to be then. That is why it got taken out of the football season.

If you had seen it in the 1980's it was far more of a pure football game for best players in the game. The 1990's was when too many of the best players were not playing it because it was being programmed in a time that was no longer suitable. Indeed teams do not want to put their best players on the line mid season. Bingo!!! So do not even try playing it then or in bloody September. Just a joke to even contemplate.

Hence play it in early March and to quote this ******* AFL clown "We are exploring this with the clubs, and have contemplated incentives to play and prize money.

Hello, is our brain ticking over now and getting it ? Incentives to play. HELLO!!!!

Tackle putting State of Origin in early March with the same creative purpose and we just might bring the highest level of game back into the modern football landscape and give it, it's own time and place.

It would be bloody great to see the best have their chance to represent their state for 2 weekends and the rest of the players play in the clubs regional practice matches.

That's not why the afl are interested in either format.

What's not?

9s does exactly what the AFL intended when they invented the 9s format - cashes in on footy lovers who are only interested in committing to casual social sport. Better they have the opportunity to play (a form of) footy than to have to look to other sports to fill that need.

Easy for you to say. We have 2 AFL teams in a 10 team SANFL. It's bad enough already without most of their better players playing as well.

No thanks. I can just see the reaction now when one of the best players in a team that didn't make the finals do their knee in this kick and giggle crap. I'm sure that'd go over well with all in sundry
Agree.

“So the bottom ten teams, the ones who need a good preseason and good luck with injuries, should we do anything with them during the end of season bye?”

“Yeah let’s put on a mickey-mouse comp, see if we can’t get their best players injured before next year”

“Erm, ok?”

Sounds awful.

This is clearly aimed at reaching an international audience (and perhaps youth) due to it's fast paced nature, commonly available ground size etc etc.

For the regular supporters this will be rubbish because our game doesn't need gimmicks or 'added excitement' of a shorter version, it is already exciting, very watchable and everything else a good sport should be.

I can't see the stars embracing this, however having said that; the AFL usually goes balls and all into it's forays and backs it up with cash, will be interested to see how they put this together.

You clearly not thinking it through. Most clubs are going to have about 7 or 8 player off representing their state team for one or two weekends in early March. That still leaves over 35 players to pick from for the challenge series practice match the mean more to the young draftee and fringe players than the elite of the league that just go through the motions in those games for one or two quarters.
Have the elite playing in the state games and the rest in the practice stuff and then the elite can come back for each club's final practice match if they want. It is the big picture here to be thinking about, not the practice matches. FMD!!! So many football fans so caught up in their own club stuff they cannot even grasp our great game has lost the best level from it because of too much emphasis put on club football.
