It’s me again.

Ahhh! Finally it’s finals time in the Quaffool.

Two big games, both of which could go either way.

Sharks v Bombers at Shark Park: History says that once finals time comes around that the Sharks start to circle and at Shark park it’s going to be a tough ask for the Bombers to win. But I just can’t write the Bombers off.

It might just come down to the performances of the Eagle and “Loose” Jarjoura. Then again it might be White v McCauley, who will give their midfield the best ride? The Sharks have so many rotation options, but then again the no-name Bombers midfield aren’t too bad either. Both forward lines lack real potency if their main forward doesn't fire, but in the backs it would seem that the Sharks do have a stronger group. My best guess is that the Sharks will go on to play the Panthers next week, but not by much.

Lions v Vultures at the Lions Den: This is a tough call, will the small ground give the Lions enough space to run the Vultures around? Will Morrison, Tarrant and Furfaro come back into the Vultures team after only one week in the twos? Do the Lions have enough listed fit players to make it a contest. The Lions will have strength and run through the midfield, but Gilly, Savage, Scott, Pratt, Vearing, Lake & Jamieson are no pushovers either. The Lions likely to have Notting, Selwood, Adcock, Hooper, Roe all looking for an AFL finals berth in a weeks time and are going to be hard to beat. In a toss of the coin the Lions – I think, or is it best out of three?

Maybe an updated review tomorrow when we see the teams

AAH finals footy. dont you love it

southport v redlands

what a year for the bombers. they have improved well and truely out of sight. this is their chance to prove to everyone that they can match it with the big boys of the comp. southport are back again to make a run at another flag. i dont know how many they got. i lost count years ago. this will be a close game of footy. can the midfield of the bombers get enough footy down to their leading forwards and can someone else pop up and kick some goals if eagle cant get a kick. southport look good all over the park, but not as good as years gone by and this could be redlands chance to cause a huge upset. but i am going with the sharks. at home they are near impossible to beat.

lions v vultures

this will be either a less than kick in it or a 20 goal flogging. the vultures have sprung into life in the past month and a half after that etrrible performance against the siders. tgheir running brigade has been pretty good in that time and it's going to be interesting too see how matches up against aguably the best player in the comp at the moment in gilliland. morro has been handy foward target and he will be needed this week if they are any chance of beating the lions. who knows what the lions will throw up in this game either. their last 2 finals havent been the best that is for sure. labrador beat them by 15 goals in 07 and the sider ran over them last year. they might throw all available listed players in and have a crack at winning the comp from here on end, but who knows. i am going to go with the mounties in this one. if they can get over the lions midfield and get through the lions defense. they should win by 5 goals

5 key players for the redlands v southport game.

redlands.

pantic
retti
mueller
marguccio
davies

those 5 need to stand up and kick some goals if eagle cant get a kick

southport

the usual suspects

wise.
charleston.
nicklaus
mccauley
james

mccauley will have a ding dong battle with white and if wise and james run rampant. redlands will be in for a very long day. charleston and niclaus will get the 2 key forwards

mt gravatt v lions 5 key players

vultures

gilliland
carins
morrison
tarrant
grose

gilliland will more than likely get the lions bestand carins will be a running backman truned midfilder. morrison will need to kick decent total of goals and tarrant will need to stand up like he has all year. grose will give them plenty of drive up forward and down back

lions.

their listed players will be hard to stop

big wins for noosa. palmy are gone. big win for surfers and i reckon they will roll palmy nect week.

southport kept their winning ways over redlands
Agree with you there, would be good to see two different sides in the PHC play in the Grandfinal.
I see Wynnum gave Alex Hills a flogging as well.

Both forward lines lack real potency if their main forward doesn't fire, but in the backs it would seem that the Sharks do have a stronger group. My best guess is that the Sharks will go on to play the Panthers next week, but not by much. Geez, the Sharks didn't just circle they corralled and had a feeding frenzy. Eagle starts in the middle? The 'Wise' old heads stood up again as they usually do for the Sharks around this time of the year - lookout for a big game at Panther Park next week.

In a toss of the coin the Lions – I think, or is it best out of three? I know the Lions were a little undermanned, but given Morrison, Tarrant and Furfaro hadn't played for weeks it was a great effort by the Vultures. The Bombers are in for a contest at the airport. Was it the QAFL goal of the year Grose to Jameison (I think) to Carins?

Looking forward to next week

Not many with any thoughts on last weeks encounters!

OK, it’s getting closer to crunch day in the Quoffull with the Semi’s on this week.

2nd Semi: Panthers v Sharks at Panther Park:

Looking forward to this clash, last years Grand final was a beauty and both sides will want to go straight through to the GF. This year the Panthers have looked the goods and with the addition of Lucy, Kimball & Shelton added to the return of Muggsie they look hard to stop. BUT the Sharks just seem to find a way to peak around September and their additions of Thompson, Jarjoura and the Ferret haven’t hurt their chances either.

The Panthers did everything but get across the line a little less than 12 months ago and have won the last two meetings - at Panther Park they should win their way to the GF in what should be a great contest.

1st Semi: Bombers v Vultures at the Runway:

The Bombers have had the wood on the Vultures this year, but the Vultures have probably not had a better 22 on the park in 2009 than who showed up last week. The Bombers have been good all year, but what are the mental scars from last weeks welcome to finals footy? Opposed to that is the best side the Vultures have had all year and they did a number on a Lions outfit, that while slightly undermanned were very keen to keep winning. Both sides have been aided by new players for 2009 with White and Eagle the standouts for the Bombers, however Grose and Head haven’t exactly been ordinary for the Vultures either.

At home at the Runway the Bombers are hard to beat and the colloquial Bombers supporters will be out in force – however, I think the Vultures are a finals hardened group and will find a way to win in a tough encounter.

In the two’s: Pies over the Panthers and Tigers to beat the Bombers

And for those who think I don’t care about the PHC – you’re right, I don’t. However as much as it pains me, I think Palmy will make it to another GF. Then I’m all for the Tigers the week after.

that is right on the money. although can see the bombers 2's gettin up over labrador.

yoshiura on carse and jamieson to huy IMO. Gilliland will be way too smart for thomson to be even close. Gilliland to kick 4.

panthers will dominate the sharks. pretty tidy outfit. be hard to beat again this year. amazing what an injury free list can do.

oddball, must say you probably have the best info. never too far off it.

Leumas08, I got to say that I agree with you :D

My intelligence and football insight is probably only matched by your good self and Damochandler

I am looking forward to getting to both games

Just saw the teams on the Quofful website - how silly do they think we are, some games being played on the respective benches.

ah the final that we have been waiting for. i am not going to go into depth of this weeks games.

the big one

morningside for mine. they are just a well balanced side this year and that's what was missing last year. they have winner all over the park and i just cant see southport getting over the siders in front a massive crowd i am tipping at esplin. southport are a chance if the 3 wise men have a day out. wise, james and nicklaus. should be a cracker

finals footy comes to vic point.

i am sorry bomber fans. but i think the vulture are ready to pounce and eliminate the bombers from the finals. i watched the vultures play last week and they were pretty good with big tommy back in the side. that helps a big time. eagle will need to kick a bag this week for the bombers to win. but big tommy will shut him down this time

the phc.

surfers will have to much class for the lions.

gilliland to win the grogan tonight. i think the fact that probablyt there isnt anyone that will take votes off him from his team and the fact that morningside have had good players all year. there could be 4 maybe that could win it from the siders. a roughie. aaron shattock. the rising star i reckon might go to matt davis from aspley

gilliland has had a great year and i reckon he been arguably the best player in the comp this year.

Regular season done, who do you think will win the Grogan?

My tip for the top 10:

1. Gilliland
2. Shelton
3. Kahlefeldt
4. Carse
5. Rockliff
6. Myers
7. Gough
8. J.Illett
9. Holman
10. White

Thoughts?

The actual top 10:

1. Gilliland (Mt Gravatt) - 17 votes
2. Gough (Morningside) - 16 votes
3. Wise (Southport) - 15 votes
4. Carse (Redland) - 14 votes
5. Matthews (Aspley) - 13 votes
5. Shattock (Labrador) - 13 votes
7. Kinch (Morningside) - 12 votes
7. McCauley (Southport) - 12 votes
7. Vearing (Mt Gravatt) - 12 votes
7. Myers (Redland) - 12 votes

I got Gilliland, Carse, Myers and Gough all right (in top 10), was surprised to see Shelton (10) and Kahlefeldt (5) poll so low. Actaully picked Gilliland and Carse in their exact positions lol.

well done to gilliland. he has domminated this year. he colects the ball at will and really doesn't get noticed as much as players like shelton, wise and lillico and kinch as well. i thought shelton would have got more votes than he got. i wonder if he got bog against broadie the day they reckon he colected 50 touches. surely he would have been noticed that day. the best player won i reckon

hmmm....i would've thought to get the league b&f you would have to get noticed, not to mention the zane taylor medal. Once again damo you talk out of your arse

Yeah, a great contest alright, then the Umpires started the game. What an awesome display by the Panthers against a quality opponent. Hard to see anyone beating the Panthers if they come close to that effort in the GF.

1st Semi: Bombers v Vultures at the Runway:

At home at the Runway the Bombers are hard to beat and the colloquial Bombers supporters will be out in force – however, I think the Vultures are a finals hardened group and will find a way to win in a tough encounter.

Well we thought Saturday was a big effort, then the Vultures kick 11-3 to 0-1 in the first qtr to ice this game. The Bombers were shell shocked, lets hope they can rebound next year. The Vultures were very impressive - I am predicting another close encounter with the Sharks, so you can bet your house it will be a blow-out.

In the two’s: Pies over the Panthers and Tigers to beat the Bombers

Zero out of two - I know my two's stuff!

And for those who think I don’t care about the PHC – you’re right, I don’t. However as much as it pains me, I think Palmy will make it to another GF. Then I’m all for the Tigers the week after.

Com'on the Tigers.

Merrett's out and the Sharks look to be lacking quality avenues to goal, but will they play like that again? Stay-tuned for the Friday update.

you're all on crack! How do you figure the bottom 2 sides is going to be a good game. Neither team has come close to winning. Magpies got to within 40 points of the cats, that has been the closest either team has got to a win. It may be a good contest because they appear to be evenly matched, but definately won't be a good game. Would rather stick needles in my eyes than watch that game, it'd be less painful.

hmmm....i would've thought to get the league b&f you would have to get noticed, not to mention the zane taylor medal. Once again damo you talk out of your arse

i will just remind you of what you said about the aspley magpies game earlier this year. you are a true idiot. that probably doesnt even watch state league football

Well done Damo if sandshoes read what you said he would have understood. Anyway moving on.

I think the Vultures will run over Southport and lets hope that Noosa repeat the Magpies effort last year.

doesnt matter any way. gilliland was deserved winner of the grogan medal. what i was saying. he wasnt getting as much atention as much as shelton was. justin kahlefeldt was given a massive chance in footy record \a few weeks ago and he only got 5 votes i think.

i reckon the vultures will beat southport and everyone is hoping noosa belts pbc

The Penultimate Game

Seniors: Sharks v Vultures at the Lions Den No. 2

On the basis that I predicted that last weeks games would be really close I am predicting that this will either be really close or then again it could be another blow-out. :D

The Sharks were good at Shark park against the Bombers, the Vultures were even better against the Bombers at the Airport. The Sharks were totally thrown off their game last week by the Panthers and will need to have done some solid soul-searching this week against a 'flock'? of Vultures who have hit form at the right time of the year.

Both defenses look good, both midfields are more than capable, but both attacks are perhaps their weaker groups, add to that the Sharks hurt by the loss of Merrett. I guess it will come down to whether JarJoura, Thompson, Meli and co can outscore Morrison, White, Cleary and co.

Looks like the Vultures might just have the form and a couple of extra goal-kickers floating around so I’m going for a Vulture win.

Ressies: Tigers v Panthers at the Lions Den No. 2

Actually I think this will also be a good quality game – the Tigers tried valiantly to fight back in the last qtr at the Airport against a good Bombers line-up. The Panthers were also good against a Magpies outfit which had a couple drop back. I expect a close encounter (therefore it will be one-sided) with the Panthers just edging out the Tigers to make it an all Panther day next week.

PHC Seniors: Noosa v PBC at the River

Let’s hope its Noosa.

prelim final.

i think this will be a great game of footy. mt gravatt have all the momentum and southport look like they are about fall in a heap. this game has a feeling that it could be a classic. tom tarrant coming back in has helped the vultures big time. i dont think southport will have enough targets up forward to kick a score against the vultures defense and southport defense is pretty strong. i expect it to be a low scoring affair with the vultures to come out on ontop.

the phc gf

go noosa. douggie and the boys will be fired up for this one and i reckon they will belt the lions. no crashes on the highway will stop this win by the noosa boys.

division 3

wynnim to win by plenty

Go Noosa and I hope it a long trip home Palmy - It's amazing that last after the grand final O'Brien stated that he would not be recruiting any big name players for 2009 and focus on the youth - YEAH RIGHT

Vultures all over Southport and well done to AJ Pratty. I just think that Mt Gravatt have to much fire power all over the park and Southport will dearly miss Merritt up forward.

Vultures by 5 goals over Southport. Jarjoura and Thompson would need to do something special if they want a sniff. hard job when both Grose and the Tarrant brothers are in ridiculously good form. Young Labi will be a tough one to match up on, am tipping him to continue his goal kicking form. Lake to kick first goal of the game to make it 3 on the trot.

Morningside by 8 goals over Labrador in Ressies. Will be way too strong with there 1's having the week off. although bombers should be sweet next week in the granny.

Palmy by 4 goals over Noosa. (would love to be wrong)
No goals from Hicks, No Noosa. I hope he kicks 10.

Wow who would have thought the Vulutures would make the GF after just scraping into the finals. Injuries have come good at the right time of the year and senior players are finally stepping up. Great win by them to come from behind in the last quarter.

Should actually be a good GF, although I still expect Morningside to come away with the win comfortably.
