Inside mid, high contested numbers, can hit a target, hates Murdoch.
Sacrifice his own game to take out opposition best player. Doesnt mind wet conditions. Can play in multiple positions. Prepared to use unconventional tactics. Can play with an injury.
and....
Hates Murdoch.

Andrew Dunkley moved interstate to play for the Swans, and in between being assigned with the task of walking the streets of Sydney trying to give away free tickets to games, played in 7 wins in 57 matches, but never left and finished a one club player. That's legit rambo sh*t.

Couldn't see his family for 2 years straight over covid, was almost blinded by surgery, never sooked it up and asked to go home.

There must have been a dozen Irish players crack the shits and go home since he joined the comp, and there are heaps of them providing support to each other.

I always thought Aish was kind of moved on by the Lions and Pies?
aish wasnt moved on by brisbane

although it is strange he has played in all states bar nsw and his home state sa where he comes from a footy royalty family

McKenna likes this.

His family didn’t want hm to visit …. But he plays the victim card

No the Pies recruoters were keen to get him, a really under rated and valuable player. He he looks like Princess Amidala but plays fearless smart footy, I loved him at the Pies.

May have had a personality clash with Bucks, but he had a good relationship with Longmuire (who was assistant at the Pies) and followed him West to Freo.

Stephen Kernahan signed with Carlton, but said he wouldn't join the VFL until he'd won a premiership with Glenelg. He made the Blues wait four seasons before joining.

A few years later, Sticks was offered plenty to come back to SA as Adelaide's inaugural captain but instead chose to stay loyal to Carlton.

The loyal type who would always stand by your man. Definitely VFL/AFL's Rambo. He even had the outrageous mullet to match.

Maligned unfairly as being soft throughout his time a Brisbane and Collingwood... not sure why as he regularly put his head over the ball and in some cases put heart over mind and copped concussions and injuries he didn't need to. Very tough footballer compared to others in his position. Not a squib by any stretch of the imagination. Good footballer and sacrificial for his teams' benefit over his career. I have plenty of time for Aishy and so should all football fans.

We hear a lot about the mummas' boys of the AFL.

The "go home factor" and the "flight risks". The JHFs and the Archie Perkins. The "Qld one day and home the next" Josh Shaches. And of course Ollie "Bellarine Dream" Henry

But what about the blokes who never go home. The road warriors. The true pros. The Rambos. The blokes you put on a plane and send anywhere and they still get the mission accomplished without mercy or complaint.

I'm thinking blokes like Lachie Neale and James Aish.

Who else fits into the category?
The entire Sydney Brisbane and WCE lists… none of them have a go home factor.. the only two clubs with the issue are GCS and GWS, and GWS seems to hav settled a bit

It’s almost like when teams have extended stints in the finals, the players don’t want to leave…

It’ll be very interesting if this holds up for WC through this current period. They lost Rioli already.

Trump put him on the no fly list... make America great again.

Aish was encouraged to seek out offers from other clubs due to salary cap issues before he left Collingwood.

Kade Simpson and Nathan Jones are #1 and #3 most VFL/AFL losses for single club players*.

Not sure if they specifically spurned trade interest from other clubs, but they were warriors that performed week in, week out.

Never dropped their heads. They played with courage and effort, no matter how bad the team was. In fact, they each played arguably their best footy when their teams were at their worst.

Jones was captain for six years. Simpson was in the leadership group for 12 years. Clearly well-respected players that were the types to go unflinchingly into battle.

Not every player can be a superstar. Not every player can win a premiership. Some don't even win a final. All you can ask for is that players give it their all every time they put on the jumper and never give up. These two were champions under that criteria.

* Kevin Murray is #2 on this list. 9 B&Fs, captain for eight seasons, Brownlow winner, AFL Team of the Century. An actual VFL champion. Not too shabby an effort from a guy that played in trying conditions for so long.

WCE have a pretty good history of player retention… so yes it will be interesting to see how they hold up through this slump
