Finally got my act together and grabbed an AFLTV account and I'm currently watching our first NAB Cup runout against Gold Coast. I just wanted to let any fans outside Australia and New Zealand that the service is really great, so far. Good quality (not great quality) picture, very fast, not at all glitchy, and very reasonably priced. It's $130 USD/$120AUD for the entire year and you can stream any match from the NAB to the finals either live or on demand. Pretty fantastic if you ask me.

So if you've been considering this, I would recommend going for it.

Sounds as though the quality of the picture exceeds the quality of skill on display for our NAB cup hit out. A good purchase for when the real stuff begins in a few weeks time though.

After watching the first half of the "match" against Gold Coast, I would have to agree. Both sides were pretty brutal. Three guys kicking into the man on the mark under basically no pressure was hilarious or pathetic, depending on your point of view. Still, nice to watch it with good picture while sipping coffee on my couch on a Sunday afternoon while I take breaks to make pizza dough!

Anyone know if this has any problems within AUS? Far cheaper than getting foxtell installed just for the footy.

it was as slippery as a bar of soap out there!

I think this is only available overseas in certain parts of the world. Dont think it is available in Aus.

this service was provided by another service provider (Live AFL.TV) last year. I was a subscriber. It costed approx US$100. To be honest, i was not entirely happy with what I got. Sometimes the live streaming did not really work with a lot of buffing pauses. I missed more than 3Qs of the grand final because of this

hope this new service is better. taking a wait and see approach. i also watched the nab game with this (subscription for the nab games is free as a promotion) and thought it was good but have a feeling service may deteriorate when the real games happen. There will bound to be more demand on the system when the season proper begins.

That does seem like it could be an issue. I just normally wait until the game is over as avoiding the result is not particularly challenging when one lives in the US. I simply wait until the next night and plan the evening around watching the match with dinner. So I think if you're not planning on streaming the matches live you shouldn't worry at all. If live streaming, it's not clear whether things will work well.

I watched from Cardiff on my Ipad and the quality was really good (of the stream not the game..) however had to keep refreshing after each quarter to get the stream to start again. Missed about 4 minutes of Brisbane game second half as the stream would not start again.

It is available in Australia too. $89 for the year. Big change this year is that it is available on any network. I can tether my iPad to my Telstra iPhone and watch it on the bus to work with no download charges. I am delaying adding sports to Foxtel as as result.

Try using this:
http://www.unblock-us.com/?ubs=2.7
cost is aqbout 5$ a month, there are free ones but this does it all for you.
It basically makes your computer look like its in the US, also good for iTunes, Netflix etc

Is this the link?

http://www.afl.livesport.tv/

It says here that its not available online for the 2013 season??

The link the service I started the threat about is http://afltv.afl.com.au/, but the service isn't available to those in Australia/New Zealand. I believe that smeltitdeltit was referring to Telstra's service, which allows for streaming on mobile devices and tablets and is available at the following url: http://www.telstra.com.au/latest-offers/afl/

Sorry this is the product I was referring to as well, it is just available through mobile/tablet devices after getting the AFL app from the app store and subscribing. I would say it is the same stream i.e. it is called AFL TV.

You got anything like this that makes your computer look like its in Australia???

Have to say I'm not impressed. Purchase last week in Thailand and it didn't work there. Now in Bali and still no joy...

I have a broadband connection in the UK. During the game tonight I tried a 3yr old laptop first but the stream wouldn't work. I then tired a two year old laptop, worked but buffered a lot. Finally went back to IPad 2 and it streamed perfectly.

I've set up the VPN with unblock-us.com and it works fine when using BBC or US websites but the AFL site keep saying "this content is not available in your location". Is there any trick to using this service? Any simple step I'm missing?

Hmm, not too sure tbh. I havnt tried using it yet with the AFL site, I assumed it would work. It does witth Netflix and iTunes

I'm yet to use it, but this service get's some good feedback from forum's in Germany. Can make your internet connection look like any country (or any country that's useful for watching catchup TV). Also about $5/month.

I watched the NAB cup final (on delay) from countryside Germany. We've got a pretty good 16MB/s line, and I was able to watch the entire match without a skip. Very impressed.
Given I probably won't be watching any match live (I'll be on Australian radio/internet silence all weekend) I'm happy to watch the matches on delay, and very happy with the quality and service.

When you purchase something in Thailand or Bali you know there will be issues.

I am surprised you didnt get some footage of someone holding a camera up in his loungeroom pointing at his TV. :-)
