GWS AFL Women’s have picked up one of Collingwood’s best players, securing Alicia Eva during the trade window. The Giants’ first trade of the inaugural AFLW trade period saw the club trade picks 1 and 9 to Collingwood for the 26-year-old Eva and the Magpies’ pick 5 as part of a three-club deal. Eva was the Magpies vice-captain and runner up in the club’s best and fairest and played all seven games of the inaugural season.

In addition to being one of the AFLW’s elite midfielders, Eva is a highly-regarded coach. She is currently the head coach of the Calder Cannons TAC Cup Girls program and was the first female to ever head coach a male high performance side when she led the Calder Cannons U15 boys team. She will continue her coaching ambitions with the GIANTS.

GWS midfield gun Alicia Eva summed up the feelings of both teams immediately after the match, which finished 2.7 (19) to 2.7 (19). “I feel deflated,” Eva said. “That game was so hard-fought by both teams, it deserved a result.”
