Interesting that theres no Friday match.

Big game Sunday in Adelaide between the top two undefeated sides. The undefeated Lions have the Pies at what could be a very crowded venue this weekend, and Saturday nights double header between the pioneers of the AFL womens competition GWS have Fremantle on Saturday afternoon in the Giants first home game, and both sides will be looking for their first win in the competition.

Big week. We'll really start to get an idea of where the teams properly are at. Teams really can't be dropping more than two games if they want to be a chance to make the Top 2 in a seven week competition and play in the Grand Final. A team would need results to go their way, a pretty even competition and a healthy percentage to scrap into 2nd with a 4-3 record.

Fremantle V GWS is a must-win in order to stay alive essentially in the comp. Collingwood on their last chance too. Loser out of the Bulldogs and Melbourne is put the precarious position of not being able to afford to drop another game. And then we have a top of the table clash.

It is PATHETIC, & borderline" cruelty" to schedule a men's or women's game game around midday in Blacktown, Adelaide etc. in summer.
Sweaty hands & foreheads make skill execution/decision making much more difficult -not to mention coaches are asking players to constantly run & flood!

Games should never be scheduled before 4pm -if they are, and temp. is scheduled to be 30 deg. or more, transfer game to a night game.

And why no Fri. or Sunday evening games scheduled?

AFLW has been very good for its first year so far -but these day game times are a major failing.

Fortunately the BOM is prediciting 22 and a possible shower in Adelaide and 32 with an 80% chance of showers in blacktown.

hawthorn v Geelong friday night in the JLT series from Tasmania should be big on Fox.
Im assuming its Foxfooty scheduling to minimise clashes with the JLT series.

Hasnt really hurt so far.

"Hasn't really hurt so far".
Disagree.

Have you ever tried to play sport in very hot conditions, with sweaty hands & foreheads (with sunscreen exacerbating the sweaty problem).
Do you think it is easier to execute skills/better decision making in more temperate conditions?

Do you think spectators prefer to watch football in strong heat -or milder conditions?

Sunday& Th. evenings don't clash with JLT Series.

It is necessary to SELL the AFLW -& do whatever is reasonable to maximise its appeal.

To be honest I think the league is pretty happy with the crowds and tv ratings as they are - even with its "pathetic" scheduling.

Does the AFL have an extreme heat policy, out of curiosity?

Note it announced a AFLW heat policy as well
http://www.afl.com.au/news/2017-01-31/league-announces-heat-policy-for-aflw-matches

In case of extreme heat, the AFL will monitor weather conditions in the lead up to each match.

The AFL will contact the clubs involved 48 hours prior to the match to discuss preparations should the Bureau of Meterology forecast excessive heat (wet bulb reading 28 or higher).

In that instance, the AFL would have the potential to alter the length of breaks or quarters.

Each club will be permitted additional water carriers on field, with venues to be equipped to limit the risks involved with warm weather.

anyone think it's crazy Casey only got 3 weeks down to 2 for her hit on Downie?

super late, ball gone, 0 attempt at the footy, elbow up which is what hit her, knocking her clean out resulting in her being stretchered off.

bit of pro-rata going on i suspect. I also think the MRP is going to be lenient this season in terms of body contact. Numerous people have said they just dont have that awareness yet.

Think of it as a percentage. 2 or 3 games out of a season that is less than 10 games, is a fair chunk. That is 20-30% of her season.

Think about the worst of the worst last year in the AFL, Stephen May got 5 games out of 26 (23% of the season).

Suspension is bang on for Casey.

Pressure mounting on Mo Hope now, especially through the radio mediums, lets see how she handles it.

Book deal signed before the season, magazine spreads, TV ad's in the pipe and she's managed 8 touches so far.

Not the worst match-up for Collingwood. Their silky players aren't getting enough of the ball, but the opportunity to correct that may surface against a Brisbane team which hasn't displayed dominance in the midfield yet.

One false move for either the Giants or Dockers and it's lights out. GWS have probably had the toughest draw to land them in this territory, Fremantle have probably just played the worst.

Regarding the Casey hit, the sticking point is its grading as careless conduct. Tough to say she was intentionally going for the chin there (it was even noted in the commentary that Downie unfortunately fell into it a little bit), though maybe it's an easier call in a 22-game season as many have alluded to.

She has struggled so far, was at the Dees v Pies the other night and she just looked off the pace. Having said that she would show flashes of skill, makes you wonder if she's carrying an injury?

There's an extreme heat policy for a reason. Look football is a winter sport (purely because of the brunt of it is played during winter), in saying that it can still (and should) be played year round. If we're scared of the heat, may as well cancel pre season events AND shorten the season so the grand final doesnt take place on a warmer than average spring day?

Will be interesting to see the TV numbers for the men's & women's Sunday games. 10 games of footy over 4 days.

I believe in 3 weeks we have 9 men's & 4 women's games.

Wowee!

I'll be sick of footy before the AFL season begins!
